What's new

The Games we play...

^ Some of them look cool...

But, where's furie when you need him :<

Edit, I also got 3D Dot Game Heroes and Heavy Rain. I've only played a little bit of 3DDGH but it is fun and quite charming.

That fan made Pokemon trailer is now on youtube in the full.

It actually looks really impressive. Would love to actually see a super dark and gritty pokemon film.
Pikachu looks messed up but the bit where Mewtwo uses his psychic powers to make someone put a gun to their head is awesome. :p

Sorry, weekend off and then lots of people playing some new game about a key or something?

Anyway, thanks for holding the fort Kim :)

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus PS3 HD remakes CONFIRMED!!!
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/ico-a ... amitsu-so/

I'm going to post that link on every page in this topic until it's released next year. There isn't anyone with a PS3 who should NOT buy this remake pack. Ico is one of the best platformers ever, and Shadow of the Colossus is possibly THE best game ever!

It was really funny going online over the weekend and seeing pretty much everyone playing F1 2010... Until last night, when everyone seemed bored of it except for Will :)

I got Dirt 2 again, and it's still fab :p

3D dot heroes looks good Kim, but I hate Zelda, so it's never crossed my mind to buy it. I love the idea though.

I had my first foray in using a steering wheel with the PS3 last night. I was playing F1 2010 and I must say, I had a lot of fun.

I have only ever used a steering wheel in the arcades (and of course in a real car) and to be honest I have never really played the F1 games either.

It was certainly an entertaining couple of hours and I found myself becoming quite hooked...

...Now where did those pedals go...

Here I go again finally getting around to playing old games. This time, it's Half Life 2. Overall, I thought it was alright. At first I was very disappointed, but after proceeding to about half way, the game started to get very fun. It's a strange game with regard to the fact that the main character does not speak. There is also no objective or map to help you along(not that I needed them, but it was kind of annoying not having them). I also found that the main character has limited motion; he can't melee enemies or climb very high, yet the AI's have no problem meleeing you or climbing a fence.

I'm currently almost done with HL2: Episode One, which is pretty short, but is still as fun as the end of HL2.

So far, I'll give the series a 7/10, but I bet it will change since I have to play another episode.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Mutliplayer Beta...

Well, it's a huge game of hide and seek... Only it tells you where the person is hiding.

It's a bit of an odd one to be honest. It's gorgeous, and it's "fresh" I suppose. It's doing something new and interesting. It requires a lot of patience though, it's slow. Not something I would have thought suited multiplayer particularly well. You just get a target and a "finder compass" and walk to him. It might take five minutes to get there, then you have to pretend to be a bot and blend in until you get close enough to strike. Then you get another target. All the time ,you're being hunted as well, so you need to keep an eye out for your assassin. It's a really curious concept. Did I mention how pretty it was? It's stunning, but like with the previous games, all the streets and alleys look the same. You have a couple of stand out places, but most of it is just the same as everywhere else.

I need to play some more, then I'll let you know if it's actually a good idea or not. :)

Though it's slowly becoming a dying breed, there are still a few games about that involves the main character not speaking... Zelda and Metroid (except Other M, which depending on your view doesn't count) spring to mind...

^Silent protagonists aren't really THAT rare even now. I like them :D

*looks through games*

Bioshock (was the second one silent, I blocked it out my mind), Dead Space, Portal, Ghostbusters, Halo 3 etc. all have silent protagonists. I like it because it means they don't talk at you all. the. ****ing. time. It's not a lot by any stretch of the imagination, but, it's still not uncommon.

And I just started Half Life 2 actually.

TOO LOOOW >:C. Plus explore more and Silent protagonists are better.

So... Spent an hour or two on Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (multiplayer beta).

I thought it was a slow, cautious, MGS type of game. First impressions completely wrong.

It's just like the previous titles. A quick run up a wall and you're on the roof, chasing your victim across the tiles. Or perched on the edge of a building waiting for your victim to walk underneath and perform a "death from above".

It's actually pretty manic and hectic and I don't know if it's better for it. I liked the idea of being really sneaky and cunning, but it just ends up a bit of a mad dash around. You look and see everyone leaping around... It's good to have that "action", but I liked the idea of a much subtler game. So I'm split two ways really. It's great fun, but maybe a missed opportunity - the mechanics allow for the players to defeat the object of the actual game...

I was going to mention that, along with this:

However, I played the demo of Beyond Good and Evil and thought it was boring, dull, bland, typical 3D platform adventure tripe. There's a reason very few people played it, more would have done if they hadn't released a demo ;)

Well, after more playing time on F1, my opinion has improved slightly on it.

The online stuff is pretty good (well, if it wasn't for retards with no respect for the rules also playing). Not to mention cheating!

I know I'm pretty awesome at the game and find no trouble winning when it comes to the game's hardest level AND actual competitions with other human beings. So you know something's up when people are going 4/5 seconds a lap faster than you, etc etc.

As said before the graphics are great, but more playing time has shown up more shortcomings in the general use of hte product, let alone the gameplay. Menus are often non-sensical, they don't go where you expect them to; and the MENTAL results are clearly down to having pit-stop settings on. So you have to TURN OFF pit-stops in order for the races to finish with the proper cars plus whatever you're driving at the front.

SORT IT OUT Codemasters!

There is also the chance that perhaps... You're not as good as you think? ;)

I can't find anyone complaining about being beaten by cheaters... Well, not in the PS3 community anyway...

If you're concerned about cheaters, then find an online racing club and join. That way you know everything is fair and square - plus they will race clean :)

Wouldn't be suprised if they're not cheating, they're just that good already. Happens most of the time with driving games tbh.

Heard something about the pitstops being a joke and not scaled to consider the length of the race, and pit release or something. Sounds like the game was released half finished, so I'll save for Fifa tonight.

^ The pit release makes sense, it holds you if there's other cars within your "50 metre exclusion zone" which is as it is in real life.

There is that chance yes, and I've factored that in, but not THAT slow

Yes, but it's not taking into account in the difference in length of the race. If you do a ten lap race, then everyone will pit in at lap 5 and wont be spread out. So you end up held because everyone is in the pit at the same time.

Over 51 laps (or whatever), the pit lap will be different for each car and you'll be more spread out :)

So, they should change the rules for the sorter races.

What's the differences between your fastest lap times and the fastest lap times on the online leader boards? Are you away from first place by 4 or 5 seconds?
