When you kill in time to the music, that's when you're most immersed, and the game becomes a sensory envelopment! That's the whole point of the game, to blur the line between game and musical experience. If you play it as a game, you lose the other half. You can't just listen to the music, because when you play the game, you create the music, and the best rhythms fit with the music, killing along with the beat.
