What's new

"Now Showing"

I just had to sit through (the majority of) Sex and the City, because we're doing postfeminism (look it up). I've never watched the series, and never will now. I'm never sat through such a pile of self-obsessed **** in my life. The characters are selfish, bitchy, spoilt, stupid and irritating. It really, really grated on me. The men were all (mostly) vile pigs too and the whole thing just seemed like a cinematic runway/magazine. The attitude of the whole thing stinks, which says a lot for the kind of people who enjoy this sort of bile.

We get it, you had to watch an awful film, now we're going through practically the same tripe. Ollie?

I know you're a woman and all, but do stop going on and on and on and onnnnnn. *drinks*

So, saw a few films today. First up was Immortals in 3D.

I really loved the director's last film, The Fall. He just has this amazing way of making everything look so epic and powerful. He also seems to understand 3D, it works really well in this film. Some scenes are maybe a bit too stylized and the story isn't amazing but overall I really enjoyed it. It's definetly a film I'd prefer to see on the big screen than at home, just to get the full experience of the epic imagery.

Next up was 50/50.

I'd been really looking forward to this film for some time and was slightly annoyed I saw a fair bit on one of the monitors at work, kinda spoiling some scenes for me. However it was just excellent. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was superb in the main role and I can't think of another actor that would be able to pull it off as well as he did. The story maybe a little predictable but it's such a nice film with just the right balance of sad and funny scenes. I really recommend everyone goes to see this because its brilliant.

I ended the day with My week with Marilyn.

The cast is amazing even if there isn't much room for everyone to shine. The main guy annoyed me a little but I'm not sure why. Apart from that it is a very enjoyable film and it makes me just want to find out even more about Marilyn Monroe, watch more of her films etc. So it's a nice little film, maybe more of a film to catch when it's on DVD or TV.

The Muppets

I grew up watching reruns of the Muppet's my entire life, so clearly I was excited for this one. It exceeded expectations too. Absolutely fantastic, definitely made for those who grew up watching it and knew the characters. It was very sarcastic and there were some great "past" generations that made it even better. All of the songs but one worked really well, and I was laughing the entire movie. Go see it if you ever watched Kermit de Frog and his compadres growing up.

^I think Disney have lost the plot when it comes to release dates. Not only have we got to wait months but in the US they decided to release it at the same time as bloody Twilight meaning that hardley anyone in America went to see it. It's almost like they want the film to epically fail. Urgh.

^HARDLY so. Twilight gets all of its business in the first weekend, then drops off dramatically. When I worked at the theater and New Moon came out, we had it in 7 theaters (out of 13) opening week, we then dropped it to 2 and didn't sell out any showing the following week. The Muppets got the family crowds while Twilight got the **** idiot crowd. It was full when I saw it Friday at 2 in the afternoon in a 500 person theater, and this is just Kansas City. It probably destroyed Twilight in the box office the past 5 days.

^Yeah, not really. There are way too many dumb people in America bumming the silly Twilight films...

"The vampires and werewolves of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1" ruled the box office for the second week in a row, taking $62.3 million over the five-day weekend. The family-friendly "The Muppets," meanwhile, took a solid $42 million. The five-day Thanksgiving weekend"

I really want to see the muppets. Animal=<3

But I don't like Twilight at all. Plus, they soo copied Harry Potter! 2 parts, same release dates, ending with a white screen, I mean seriously, get your own ideas!

I really want to see the Muppets.

Got so excited seeing them on X Factor.

OH WAIT. It's not out until Feb. **** it then, I'm gonna torrent it on purpose now to stick a finger back up at Disney. Leave it that long, babes, and we'll ilegally get it <3

Yea, I went to see 50/50 today. I had no idea what it was about before I went in - I just knew it had had some positive reviews - so the subject matter was a bit of a shock.

It was brilliantly pulled off though, and I think I probably went through every emotion there is.

It was funny, heart-wrenching and uplifting. I loved it. :)

This is a tough one for me. I really actually did grow up with the muppets, right from pretty much the start of their career away from Sesame Street. I've always struggled with the re-inventions and I can't get to grips with the voices without Jim Henson :(

Muppets Tonight was solid, but the anarchy wasn't quite as natural as the original series and while Muppet's Christmas Carol and Treasure Island are both good films, Muppets from Space and Wizard of Oz are pretty poor. It's all a bit of a mixed bag, but there's just nothing with the sheer brilliance that came along with their original series; they were so esoteric and obtuse in a way that was probably just a product of the time.

So I have reservations, but there's no way I'm missing it. Though I'm obviously crying into my cornflakes over the fact I have to wait. Boo hoo hoo...

It felt like the original tv show really. My mom had us watch essentially every episode in reruns so it just felt right. Also it took Jason Segal 4 years to make it because he wanted to make it perfect. There were surprisingly a lot of cameos that made the movie even better.

It's quite an interesting story about how William Shakespear didn't actually write the plays etc. It's got quite a good cast and makes for an interesting story. However I found at times the story to be really hard to follow as it jumps around like a drunk kangaroo, hopping from different time periods, then back again and then to another point in time, got really annoying after a while.
