What's new

Luna Park Coney Island | Thunderbolt | Zamperla

The 'dive loop' really reminds me alot of the same element on Flug Der Damonen at Heide Park, it looks really sweet!
I can't wait to ride this in July and see what it's like. I assume it will be open by then?

Luna Park has suggested that they want to open the ride by the time the kids get out of school so all the families can come to ride it, so mid-late June I guess? I'm sitting on top of my calendar waiting for them to confirm an opening date so I can go, I want my second opening day credit.

For those that haven't seen it, here's my final construction update video. I need to get back to the park as soon as I return from Goliath's media day to film this coaster testing because the park PR director told the local ABC TV affiliate that they hope to have Thunderbolt opened to the public next week.

They said that they hope to have it open next week and Darren, Ian and I are hoping they do so by June 7th.

Trains are on the track. Testing begins soon.

From the park's Facebook page.

Yeah, I can't think any coasters with three across seating either. Does anyone know of any?

The Fabbri Inverted coasters use a 3 row seat as well - http://rcdb.com/1107.htm?p=23683

And then there's this one: http://rcdb.com/1107.htm :p

I don't even...

Anyways apparently the reason why Zamperla has 3x3 seating is due to the fact that according to them the New York family demographics are predominantly 2 parents and a child, and they don't want a random 4th person to potentially ruin their ride together. Makes zero sense to me since I usually go to the parks either by myself or with one other person, but I guess they were making a shot at B&M with the last part of what I said?

^Absolute bull ****. They're just trying to justify a flawed design.

OMFG! Seriously? The whole hour I waited in the queue for Mirage at Zoosafari Fasanolandia, I watched train after train after train depart with three empty seats... EVERY DISPATCH.

^Yep. That sums up my experience of 3-across seating as well. It DOESNT work; they can claim whatever made up demographic they want.

They've basically guaranteed that no other park is going to order one without a complete rethink of the trains, which could potentially mean a redesign of the track.

**** ing idiots.

I heard it was due to Ian from CoasterForce visiting in June. They were made aware that Jerry and myself were accompanying him so insisted on 3 across seating. Once the 7th June has passed they'll revert to 4 across.

I like how open the trains are;

I don't like the restraint design, it's not too dissimilar to Skyrush's and people had nothing but complaints.
Three abreast? **** no.

This thing looks awesome! Some nice hang time in the inversions, but seriously (!) look at the pace through those airtime hills.
