AVATAR Land for Animal Kingdom WDW

My question is this, why go with a crap out of house theme in Avatar, when you have the perfect area to use that is in a movie that just got re-released in theaters and is getting blu ray treatment in Lion King? Signature park icon= Pride Rock
e-ticket attraction= Elephant graveyard
dark ride= the jungle area

There are so many things they could do with Lion King, I mean, it makes so much more sense than Avatar, and while it is going with a movie, it has inspired a trilogy and has had lasting impact. I don't know, just thought of how that would be so much better than Avatar.

^ Dinosaurs wouldn't work with the story of the dinosaur area.. the only "live" dinosaurs you see are in the Dinosaur ride, and only cuz you travel back in time to find em. So it'd be a bit strange to have Pterodactyls flying around, cuz the areas timeline is set in the present.

Didn't they have 'Lucky' the animatronic dinosaur a while back... Or am I imagining things...

Also, seconded on the Lion King idea...

yea i think they re going for something new. Lion King is a classic but i think they re trying to get a more modern feel with their parks. By doing a lion king theme they re not setting themselves up well to compete with universal who is using mostly modern movies to expand their theme

A bit of an update (ish) from Screamscape:

2015/2016 - PANDORA - The World of Avatar - (10/26/12) Pandora: The World of Avatar may still be years away, but who’s ready to find out just what kind of major new attractions we can expect to find inside? From what I’ve heard so far, there are a few different proposals floating around with different offerings and different budget levels to choose from, as the final choice has not yet been made. That said, it does seem as if Disney may have selected their primary E-Ticket attraction for the land, which would some kind of new open simulator style ride using a large circular multi-story screen. While this may sound a bit like Soarin’ at first, I’m hearing that this is likely to be a different kind of beast, able to take advantage of the new style digital 3D system Disney used on Star Tours 2, and while it may be about flying around Pandora, I think we’ll see a more active and adventurous motion system used here, as travel through the World of Pandora will not involve the same mellow friendly skies we experienced from Disney’s Soarin.

Attached to this E-Ticket ride structure, which will apparently feature four different theaters to deal with the capacity problems, will be a second C-Ticket level adventure ride that will feature both indoor and outdoor scenes. I’ve heard that it may be family friendly boat ride experience (Small World of Pandora?) though I’d also got a hunch that it could be a land based dark ride system as well as it seems the early proposal may feature 6 to 9 passenger vehicles, using 3 rows of seats.

For those hoping for a little more action and adventure, I’ve also heard that Disney has drawn up some plans for a second E-Ticket ride that could use the same Vekoma MotoBike based coaster system that they are putting to use in Shanghai as a Tron Light Cycle ride. Budget is the primary factor here, as adding the launched coaster to the land would increase the budget by good number of digits. Hope to have more information to share about The World of Avatar soon… so stay tuned.

Now I've been to the AK, I can safely say that I really dont want this to happen now! :(

Yeah, that would be the worst thing ever.

I didn't realise Shanghai was actually getting a Tron Vekoma Motorcycle Coaster though!

Going back to Shanghai then <3

^ I can't agree more. It's horrible that they're adding (or could be) this section, not good :(

Surely the whole Avatar franchise is pretty dead already? Or are they releasing another 2 films or something?

This is such a knee jerk reaction to Potter and a bad idea.

I was hoping this was not going to happen but looks like it will.

The ride being mentioned is not needed, they have Dinosaur which is better than 4d stuff.

Oh well will see how it turns out but am really not interested and am worried it could ruin the look and feel of the park.

I would have thought Avatar-land would be the ideal place for Disney to put some proper thrill rides (a B&M Flyer springs to mind) and not just variations on what they already have. Surely they don't think the film made $2bn because of the scenery?

The thought is that Disney cut the Avatar Land Budget so they can do something at Hollywood Studios. Cars land is the prevailing theory. (Damn Cars Land (If Disney builds it they really are stupid. The whole point was to give California Adventure something unique to up the attendance x.x))

So then the Studios will have something like EPCOT's Test Track, and Animal Kingdom will have something like EPCOT's Soarin'... and they'll suddenly realise they need to sort out EPCOT. Smart!

With the cars thing it's not a problem for them as many of the international visitors don't go to California and never will.

But test track is a few mins away so again it's just stupid, plus they have just spent millions doing up test track.

I agree with the Sorin thing though plus the queues for that are always long.

^It is stupid. It's all just rumors and bus drivers for now though. I'd rather see one of the many other things rumored for Hollywood studios come to fruition. Something like the Monster's Inc Coaster or another Muppet's attraction.

To be fair, Disney aren't exactly against multiple versions of the same ride type, even at the same parks. How many versions of Dumbo are there at DLP? ;)

I think the biggest issue with Avatar is how huge it is. The question is "was it a flash in the pan?"

It continued being shown for months and months beyond a normal film release date and the story was very Disney (well it would be, as it was Pocahontas ;) ). So it's a good "easy sell". The problem is:

1. How well will it integrate with Animal Kingdom (but they have a double Reverchon Spinner there, so let's face it, they don't care too much* :p )?

2. Is there any life in the franchise now? The next 2 films will show us.

3. Is the franchise actually as strong as others that hit parks? Is it as strong as other Disney franchises? I'd argue it's much stronger than the Disney Dinosaur franchise.

If they chucked a huge amount of money at it, it could be fantastic and work. If they just chuck in some cardboard and vines, you've got Primeval Whirl. Millions upon millions have seen the film though, so it's one of those things people will go "oh yeah, I remember that"....

*Plus the whole dinosaur thing Joey mentioned
