What's new

AVATAR Land for Animal Kingdom WDW

All that's expected is a 4d cinema and a ride like Dumbo, plus a forest walk where the floor lights up etc.

As Peep said we will find out soon but I don't think there will be any big thrill rides as such.

Yeah - all of the sources I read about why the project hasn't happened yet was stating a big dispute between Cameron & WDI. I seriously hope this doesn't even happen; the movie was nothing short of mediocre (visually stunning, yes. But my god, mediocre).

I'd much rather see the addition of "Beastly Kingdom"...

I just wish they would build a new park based on villains with more adult based rides, there was talk about this but that's as far as it went :(

But there is so much more they could do rather than Avatar, it is what it is. At least it will be off to the side and out of view lol.

^^Beastly Kingdom will never happen. It existed and has since been replaced.

^That was nothing more than rumors and they need to keep the 4 parks they have now up to snuff before building any new park.

Avatar has no place in Animal Kingdom, it's an animal park not a movie park, end of.

It makes me dieeee <//3

The movie was really ****, but I'll reserve judgement until after things get officially announced. Avatarland was rumored to get an E-ticket attraction too.

Was it? The plans I saw did not have much in it.

The only thing they could possible get that would fit the theme is a flyer or wing rider. Cannot see that happening tbh.

A lot of people do not go back to the park after 1 trip so they need to do something big.

It's a shame as I love the park, but I go for the experience not for the rides. We only do three rides and the crappy rapids is not one of them.

A flyer or wingrider would never fit into any Disney park.

Scroll down to the avatar section on screamscape and you can see plans for the E Ticket

I don't understand why there's so much hate on Avatar.. So you didn't like it, plenty of other people did. It's a hugely successful IP, and one that does work in Animal Kingdom. The main theme of the park is to do with conservation.. Also one of the main themes of Avatar.

As for the E ticket, definately likely to be a flight simulator similar or dark ride, it's the only way they'd be able to portray Pandora properly to Disney's standards, so I wouldn't hold out for a cred.

I'd argue that yes it's a very popular film, but it isn't actually a popular IP. I think that's really the main problem. The film was a huge hit in both the cinema and on home release, but in terms of IP, what else was there? Avatar duvet sets? Avatar drinks cups? Avatar toys? Avatar costumes? The IP didn't go any further than say, Titanic. Titanic was also hugely successful, but you wouldn't want Disney Sea to be converted to a Titanic Land ;)

Avatar was a very "adult" targeted film, something which just doesn't really fit in a Disney park - that's why people don't really want it in a Disney park. I know if I took MMF to Animal Kingdom and it was there, he wouldn't have the slightest idea what it was about or what Avatar was. Dinosaur and Indiana Jones on the other hand? Star Wars? Oh yes...

The e ticket ride is meant to be replaced with the cinema, sorry should have been a bit clearer.

It's all fan boys talking at the moment so nothing is clear.

People don't want avatar as its not Disney, it was not even a Disney film and that's one of the main reasons. A lot of people do not want Pixar stuff in the parks.

There was some sort of clarity at some point in this entire project before? Couldn't throw it by me.

It's in the link crazycoaster posted and in this topic.

It's expected to be very different though now as changes were demanded.

Did I say any different? I merely said I'd prefer to see it. **** sake...

The real Issue, I believe, with Disney using Avatar as a theme has nothing to do with the IP or film popularity or even the quality of narratives available... It's that the visual aspect of the world WILL NOT translate into theming. It won't look enough like Pandora. It's not going to have the success of something like Cars land, simply because it'll just look like an earth jungle - like most of Animal Kingdom already does.

I'm interested to see what they do, especially with an e-ticket ride for it, but I'm skeptical of it's success.
