July 28th, 2022 – Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger, the world’s steepest dive coaster, opens to the public this weekend, with season pass holders getting early access tomorrow. Six Flags Fiesta Texas gave us a sneak preview and we were blown away by the ride experience that’s the first to include a beyond vertical drop on a B&M (Bolliger & Mabillard) coaster. As expected, the first drop is very intense, especially in the back row, with amazing visuals. While the airtime hill at the end doesn’t deliver the strongest pop of airtime, the positive G-forces throughout the ride make up for it.
In addition to the 150 feet (46m) tall 95° drop, the ride features an Immelmann, Zero-G Roll and a 360° Helix. Another unique feature is the audio recording that plays as riders stop at the top of the drop for a few seconds before plunging toward the ground. Given the name Cliffhanger, the coaster surprisingly sits in the middle of the park, rather than off the huge quarry walls that surround much of the park.
Check out the videos below to see what it’s like to be in the front seat of this thrilling coaster, what it looks like, how we reacted to the ride and what Jeffrey Filicko, Marketing and Communications Manager at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, shares with us about the attraction.
