May 17, 2018 – Knott’s Berry Farm opened HangTime, the park’s new Gerstlauer Infinity coaster that illuminates over the Boardwalk with a themed LED light show. With a 150 foot (46m) vertical lift hill, the steel dive coaster features a 96° beyond vertical drop, 5 inversions and reaches speeds up to 57 mph (92 km/h) after holding passengers for a few seconds at the top.
“HangTime is the first and only dive coaster in California,” said Park Vice President & General Manager Jon Storbeck. “The coaster pays homage to California’s beach and surf culture, simulating the thrilling motions and movement you get from the Pacific’s largest waves.”
Replacing the old Vekoma Boomerang coaster, HangTime can display a variety of programmable light shows that will be used at special occasions throughout the year – including a “Blood Red” theme for the Knott’s Scary Farm Halloween nights. A light trail follows the train around the track that varies depending on the track color, making for quite the view once night sets in. The light package was designed by KCL Engineering of Des Moines, Iowa.
