July 1, 2024 – When you think of world’s firsts Penguin Trek doesn’t immediately spring to mind, but when it comes to Bolliger & Mabillard family coasters, that’s exactly what it is. It’s also SeaWorld Orlando’s fifth B&M coaster, so where better to build the Swiss company’s first family ‘non-inverted’ coaster? At least that’s how we feel after attending today’s media preview event ahead of this weekend’s public opening.
Located where the Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin dark ride once stood, Penguin Trek not only pays homage to its predecessor, it also features an indoor Antarctic themed section with glaciers, snow, and an LED display. The coaster uses a LSM launch to propel riders outdoors at speeds up to 43 mph (69 km/h) over hills and banked curves reaching a maximum height of 65 feet (20 m). And with a height requirement of just 42 inches (1 m), it’s the perfect ride for families to enjoy together.
Penguin Trek is the park’s eighth coaster and second kid-friendly coaster along with Super Grover’s Box Car Derby, a Zierer Force coaster that opened in 2006 as Shamu Express.
