What's new

"Now Showing"

Since some of you are discussing the Saw films, I guess I might as well put in my two cents. I haven't seen five yet though, but I will have in the next few days.

Saw 1- Confusing at first (I was like twelve when I first saw it though), but once it ended and I had it explained to me, it was actually really good. It played better on the whole psychological aspect of things than the other films did as well, which I liked. The traps weren't as gross as the other ones, but it was still good.

Saw 2- Really good sequel, and I liked how they focused on both the twists and the traps, which made it one of my favourite of them all (liked it a tiny bit less than one).

Saw 3- Focused too much on being gorey but it was still decent and not too confusing.

Saw 4- Confusing as heck, not amazing traps, didn't think it was great.

Apocolypto

What?

6/10

Oh COME ON, you rate all of these movies like, tens all the time and you give an actual good movie a six? A SIX for Apocalypto? That movie rocked!

And Pokey, I agree about HSM.

Recently saw You Don't mess with the Zohan.

It was alright, nothing near Adam Sandler's best, but still enjoyable. The jokes were there, but nothing that made me bust out laughing, more of a laugh inside then out.

7/10

Also, I'm apparently seeing The Rocky Horror Picture Show on halloween at the Michigan Theater. I have to go with a giant V on my forehand, because I've never seen the film. Is it any good?

No.. see Taylor, I rate BAD movies like this.. or Apocalypto. The movie was good for about.. 1 hour.. then driveled on into massive **** with a HORRID ending. 10,000 BC was more entertaining.. which isn't saying a lot.

Is that better for you? Or do I need to dumb it down to your annoying level?

What you talking about?

Great songs, fun risque (for the time) plot, great songs.. it's a hoot.

you have no soul!

Anyhuws.. Saw body of lies tonight.. AWFUL name for a movie (sounds like a softcore porn film with sharon stone in it. But the film itself is alright!

Not the best film in the world.. I was pissed with the unecessary love interest, and ****ty ending.. and it drags on a bit.. But it was a good film none-the-less.

I agree that the first half of the movie was better than the second (second was a whole lot of running through the jungle and nothing else), but I still thought it was a great movie. The beginning was incredible in my opinion, with the effects and like, just everything that was happening.

10,000 B.C. was SO not even close to being as good as Apocalypto, in my opinion.

WTF is wrong with you, honestly? All I was doing was saying I'm surprised you didn't like it.. And then giving my opinion. That's it. And I'm not ****ing dumb.

Well predictably I watched Saw over the weekend, here’s what I thought:

Saw

The film itself had a clever narrative and I liked the central theme of the two guys in the room. It certainly made the film original. Some of the filming techniques let it down in places though. The fast, panic scenes where the camera angles were changing quickly i.e. during the reverse bear trap scene, made the scene a bit harder to grasp.

The film featured a lot of heavy horror. It did, after all start that whole “gorno” thing with Hostel. But the traps, combined with a good story and a clever ending, made Saw, a good original horror film.

4/5

Saw II

As with any decent sequel you get more elaborate traps, but the structure of the film wasn’t as good as the first. I’m not sure that the conversations with Jigsaw were a good move. The film did attempt at another clever ending, but I don’t think it succeeded in the end in being clever. More of the quick filming style was there again and it got to the point of the film simply flashing between frames.

Having said that, it was a decent effort, but I can’t help thinking that with a bit more time spent on the screenplay, it might have been a better film.

Two films last night.

First up, watched Diary of the Dead with Minor_Furie.

I thought it was about time he caught up with some Romero zombie flesh eating. I'd not seen the film either. If it had been any good, it would have been a win/win situation. It was lose though :(

I don't know when Romero lost the ability to make films, but it was probably somewhere around 1992 (The Dark Half was quite good). The film is predictable, long, boring and cliched - none of it in the ironic way I think it's meant to be. Give it up George! 4/10

Then I watched (as part of my 'must watch more well rated films whether they appeal or not, so that means lots of Coen borthers pictures' season) The Big Lebowski

I'm not sure about the film. Well directed, and some great scripting. The film really gets under your skin, which is always a good sign. It's got that gentle, rolling amusement the Coen stuff has - which is good. However, it all seemed to be too reliant on in jokes. Either within the industry, or other Coen films, etc. Lots of symbolism too and cleverness. It makes it a great film for critics, and I did enjoy it, it's just that it's a ll a little bit too much to enjoy as a piece of entertainment - which is what it was trying to be.

Still, it WAS bloody good anyway  annoying film

I think its good, they've put a lot into it and its a channel 4 series, I thought it would be a lower budget thing.

Effects don't make a good movie. As you can tell with 300, it had kick ass effects.. but it really had nothing past the killing and death.

No Taylor.. you were criticizing my opinion.. calling it wrong simply because I rated it low and you rated it high.

Next time you want to give your opinion about something I rate, just don't. I really don't care about your opinion about what I've seen.. mostly because our tastes aren't even close to comparable.

And yes Taylor.. the more you talk, the dumber you become.

^ Did I say it was wrong? No, I didn't... You think just because I said that my opinion differs from yours, that I was saying yours was invalid?

God, just shut up. You're no ****ing genius yourself.

^ Okay.

I'm sorry for being rude, and I don't wanna argue either, but I'm just frustrated that you're saying I was calling your opinion wrong when all I said was this:

Oh COME ON, you rate all of these movies like, tens all the time and you give an actual good movie a six? A SIX for Apocalypto? That movie rocked!

Simply restating my opinion I wrote earlier in this topic when I first watched Apocalypto. You're definitely entitled to your opinion... But in the future when we're married, I don't think we'll be watching ANY movies together :p .

Apocalypto wasn't that good anyway Taylor, as we've already discussed. Fur coat and no knickers film ;)

Went to see High School Musical 3 today.

I was expecting another corny, cripe yet fun musical like the first two. Ok, well I was in for a big shock. It was great! The acting was better, the direction was great and the songs were cool (not as catchy though). It had such a strong storyline for a musical and it was a fresh change. Obviously its still cheese but its top class cheese.

Rating: 4/5

In preparation for High School Musical 3 I got the 2nd one on DVD. I had already seen it before by my brother hadn't so we sat down and watched.
It was quite good. The songs didn't feel as energetic as they were in the first one and the school was only shown in the first song.

Blah blah blah.

Nah, I liked it. I mean, it wasn't a top fiver, but a top tenner for me for sure. Like, the beginning was fantastic, as was the first half, but it got a bit dry when he was running through the jungle everywhere. But overall I thought it was really good.

Oh and, **** High School Musical :p .
