What's new

Formula 1 2009

Neal I agree there was no reason to lie simple as that, but 2 people did my make a whole team suffer and the sport now suffer.

They have been caught Dave has been punished and Lewis feels stupid, leave it there move on.

Malaysia isn't that bad. It's China and Bahrain that need to be dumped. There have NEVER been interesting races there. Not even Moto GP could race at Shanghai.

Malaysia is a pretty good circuit imo, the race was pretty good until it started raining.

Also I can't stop laughing at Buemi's team radio when he went off the track:

I still don't know about Malaysia. Most races I've seen there were pretty boring and the track didn't appeal to me. Although with the racing closer this year I may starting liking these tracks.

Regarding China and Bahrain, now they are 2 bad circuits. They are good for spectators and facilites but lacking anything else. Turkey is probably the only track I've liked that was built recently. Also I wonder how the new Abu Dhabi track will turn out for the last GP.

Turkey is a gorgeous track - I love it. The start/finish straight is lush, and the track itself is gorgeous. It's fast and demanding, lovely track - my favourite :)

Spa has also been wrecked as has Monaco far to easy now.

I hate to see what they have done to Suzuka.

I have never liked Sepang but there are some great corners on the track, China is **** hate it.

I agree that Turkey is great, shame this could be the last race there.

Love the soap opera, but can't be bothered with the racing. Shame because until the end of the first race, I was looking forward to the season.

Most of the family who are fans are the same too. They just can't be bothered watching it anymore as it just becomes more and pointless as the season goes on (and it's only two races in).

Alternatively, watched the BTCC on Sunday and had a fantastic few hours of racing entertainment - fast, exciting, fun, friendly (well, to a degree  ). Just such a massive contrast. It was all "high", whereas Malaysia even started "low", and ended lower.

^I thought the F1 had got better over the past few years and thought it was really going to improve this year with the new regulations, but I'd still want to wait until a few races in before deciding how the season will go. At least things are better than the bad old days when Schumacher used to runaway with every race.

I really enjoy the BTCC when they used to show it on ITV1 on Sunday afternoons but now it has been moved and I have to wait until Monday Night at some crazy hour just to watch highlights. Great racing though and plenty of contact and crashes.

Does that mean they could be suspended for the season. It didn't say anything in the article.

F1 has got better though, the racing this year has been good. Its been 2 good races with over taking etc.

Whats gone wrong is out of the FIA's hands tbh. Had Trulli not gone off Lewis would have been 4th end of. But he did go off and then Mclaren ****ed up and broke rules. If someone breaks the law they get punished, why should this be different?

I am a Mclaren fan, always have been. But even I admit they are in the wrong and they continued to lie even on the 2nd April. Only when the FIA played them the recording did they tell the truth, they deserve what they get tbh.

But as I said this will have a knock on effect, Merc will leave by looks of it, Mclaren will lose their sponcers and god knows what else.

Emmett the ban can be anything the FIA want it to be. They were going to get a season ban for the spy thing but Bernie saved them, BAR got a 2 race ban for a fuel tank. I would say this will be a year ban, or again no points or a big fine with a 2 race ban.

You have to wait a few races to find out what the final finishing order was :p

It was on ITV1 on Sunday, right after the F1 was called off :)

Not at all. What has gone wrong has gone wrong because of the way the FIA have mishandled the series. They've shown favouritism and they've punished those who aren't their favourites unfairly. So the teams are paranoid about everything they do. So they make mistakes. This isn't entirely their fault, it's due to the exceeding complicated rules put in place which have only been put there to try and show that they don't have this favouritism.

The end result is teams lying to get out of the ****, when they don't even realise they're not IN the ****. It's reached a point of officiousness now that the racing is completely secondary to the politics.

The thing is during the race McLaren actually didn't make a mistake.

They did everything by the book, from what Lewis told them "Trulli went off in a line at the corner and I overtook him", they were quite right to give him back the place to avoid a potential penalty because of the favouritism you speak of in your post furie.

They quite evidently realised that they were going to get the place back, the lying came about to make sure that they got 3rd place, well either that or they were on some sort of class A or at the very least a class B drug. :p

Oh noes, I find myself entirely in agreement with Neal .

*goes to self-flagellate*

I wonder if Bernie will fight to stop them being thrown out.

Was reading tonight, Ron is expected to also leave Mclaren to save the team. How that will help I dont know.

They are now expected to get a 4 race ban, which will be Spain, Monaco, Turkey and Britain. Not to good if you ask me.

So Whitmarsh was lying the whole time as well!

This just keeps getting deeper and deeper, with McLaren constantly making new lies to try and control the situation, making them worse off in the process.

How stupid can they be to think that they wont have got some form of videographic evidence in such a sport as Formula 1?

I can not remember what Martin said tbh, but he may have not even known that they told Lewis to give the place back so he might not be lying.

He could have been talking to Charlie when they told Lewis to move over and they may not have told him, but I find it hard to beleive that they did not after the race.

In all fairness it would take a pretty large Steven-esque fail to not know what they hell was going on in your team

Especially when it is something of this magnitude!
