What's new

Formula 1 2009

Its a well written speach what Lewis just read out. Sorry but if they told him to jump off a cliff would he?

He lied no matter what he was told to say or not say, he lied and someone else nearly got a penalty.

Yes he has said sorry and blamed someone else. Dave will probably be well paid off to take the blame for this as Mclaren know what's at stake.

Well Dave Ryan was their sporting director, and had been with them for 25 years. He SHOULD be the one carrying the can, shouldn't he?

Hamilton told the truth to the press and then lied with Ryan to the stewards, so it was Ryan's idea. That doesn't exonerate Hamilton, he's a ****ing idiot clearly, but Ryan must carry the most blame.

Hamilton's apologised profusely and now looks like a complete fool. What else can he do, other than give up?

It's still shocking though.

That is the million pound question, why did they do it? will we ever know probably not.

Lewis could still get a punishment from Mclaren though, probably a fine as I do not think they will ban him for a race.

Its a real shame this has happened though.

Edit now we know. Dave told Lewis to lie or he could get a penalty like Spa last year when they were honest. So Furie was right in what he said before.

Its on www.f1-live.com

In that case thats rediculous and Dave Ryan deserves everything he gets really. Especially with 20 years experience he should know much better then that.

Where Lewis went wrong was agreeing to lie, he said he didn't have enough time to really think about it as it was rushed but come on he must know better than aswell.

Still think banning Lewis from the race entirely is a bit harsh though but maybe thats because I am a Hamilton fan.

Would have been interesting to see if Ferrari would have recieved the same punishment.

Ferrari would have had the answer to the question about what they should do, so the situation would never have arisen ;)

Yes, furie is right.

If Ferrari do something wrong, they put their hands up when caught, say sorry and get a slap on the wrists for doing so.

Whereas McLaren are almost always treated harshly and unfairly, hence why they have to procrastinate so much when something happens before they take any action to make sure that they don't do anything that can be seen as wrong.

It just so happened that they got so confused by their own little "to be or not to be" soliloquy that different parts of the team were believing two different halves of what happened at the same time thinking they were correct.

Hamilton felt that he did the right thing, Dave Ryan thought that Lewis had done the wrong thing and as such felt that he had to change his story to avoid penalty.

As it has transpired they did not need to lie and would have got 3rd place anyway after the race inquiry. But, they did lie (and as Marc said, Hamilton did symbolically "jump off a cliff" for them), so because of this lie Lewis has been rightly DQ'd because he was in breach of the rules, for this there is no doubt.

However, with seemingly all of the information on the table it shouldn't be taken further. They lied, broke the rules, got punished for that offence and now it is finished.

I can think though Neal of a number of time when Ferrari have got away with murder, even running illegal parts on the car i.e Sepang 1999 funny enough :)

Flexi floor, rule changed after they won.
Flexi wings, again rule changed after they won.
Their drivers parking cars on the track.
Cutting people up in the pitlane.
Winning a race without taking a penalty properly, Silverstone 1998.
Kimi rams another car at Monaco last year no penalty.
Bits falling off the Ferrari in France, did not get called into the pits.

Shall I go on :)

Mclaren do one thing wrong and bang the book is thrown at them, and this has been going on since I started watching F1 back in 1988.

Renault, Benetton, Ferrari every single team will try and get away with stuff. Mclaren/Lewis were stupid in this case.

It's true, I don't deny it.

Ferrari do get away with murder, and as I pointed out in my previous post McLaren are almost always treated harshly.

However, Ferrari never directly lied to the FIA

As I've said before, they put their hands up and then Ferrari International Assistance change the rules for them as you so rightly said

It is unfair, but it will stay like that until the top people decided that Ferrari are not needed to make the sport viable. They do after all bring a lot of TV revenue and other monies into the sport all over the world. McLaren and other such teams are mostly only responisble for audiences in their own countries, whereas Ferrari is a huge global brand in motorsport.

F1 is therefore corrupt and in favour of Ferrari because it brings in the most money.

Its like the FA constantly punishing Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal so that Man Utd have a better chance of winning but if Man Utd break the rules they don't get punished.

Its complete **** in my eyes and doesn't/wouldn't happen in any other sport.

^ You have already mentioned football as one.

But also, unbelievably, cricket springs to mind. Decisions involving Australia games are usually controversial (The last ICC World Cup against Sri Lanka springs to mind)

Also, on a quick google check to see if what I thought was correct, I've found that they coincidentally, the ICC is still very very racist and decisions against people of non caucasian ethnicities are harsher!

Sounds like the FIA are not taking more action against Lewis now as they say he was put in an impossible position.

Mclaren are expected to get a fine or race bans.

WTF Massa??

What the heck was that, I guess they underestimated the speed of the other teams.

I don't think they realised how much the pace would go up as the grip went down.

Never mind eh, Kimi!

But I must say that I wasn't expecting them to not go out again, I thought they were going to go out again at the end as I was getting a little worried with the increasing temperature and pace.

Not as mental qualifying session today, but that might have something to do with that we didn't have a clue last time. But still really ace, can't wait for the race tomorrow.
