What's new

Formula 1 2009

Lol at Martin Whitmarsh.... We didn't mislead anyone....

The FIA used the words 'deliberately misleading'.

That is a painful interview to read.... painful....

Poor poor communication.... I have no pitty for them though....

Surely you'd make sure they had ALL the facts.... This could have all been avoided....

After reading the full story its very clear Mclaren and Lewis lied to the FIA.

The FIA might take it further and both could find themselves banned for the year.

They are stupid to think they would not get caught and deserve what ever they get.

EDIT:

OK I understand now - Hamilton first gives a TV interview straight after the race, saying the team told him to let Trulli pass back, and that he did.

An hour later they're called in to see the stewards and the Race Director. They're asked directly if the team told him to let Trulli pass, or if he allowed Trulli to pass, and they say no.

Hamilton and the team changed their story to drop Trulli in it and gain a place. They lied. End of.

Throw the book at them.

And it looks like that could happen Slayed, they could be banned for the year.

Why did Lewis change his story though thats the thing.

McLaren, lying bastards?

All I can say is..... told you so!

Get them kicked out, and I can bet you one thing, when all of this hits the national newspapers tomorrow morning Hamilton will be one of the most hated people in sport!

Schumacher may have bashed people off the road, but he never deliberately lied to the governing body to dump someone in it!

Hahahaha, I'm so loving this right now

Is there a transcript of the stewards meeting yet, the wording they use is very important?

Telemetry shows Hamilton didn't slow, so how could he have "let Trulli past"?

Just throwing things into the mix :)

I should've put a bet on a week ago that Brawn were going to win the championship, would've got staggering odds.

Transcript of the radio conversation said:
Lewis Hamilton: The Toyota went off in a line at the second corner, ..., is this OK?

Team: Understood, Lewis. We’ll confirm and get back to you.

LH: He was off the track. He went wide.

Team: Lewis, you need to allow the Toyota through. Allow the Toyota through now.

LH: OK.

LH: He’s slowed right down in front of me.

Team: OK, Lewis. Stay ahead for the time being. Stay ahead. We will get back to you. We are talking to Charlie.

LH: I let him past already.

Team: OK, Lewis. That’s fine. That’s fine. Hold position. Hold position.

LH: Tell Charlie I already overtook him. I just let him past.

Team: I understand Lewis. We are checking. Now can we go to yellow G 5, yellow Golf 5.

LH: I don’t have to let him past I should be able to take that position back, if he made a mistake.

Team: Yes, we understand Lewis. Let’s just do it by the book. We are asking Charlie now. You are in P4. If you hold this position. Just keep it together.

Really sounds more like utter confusion to me. The team don't know what they're telling each other to do, it's all "he's in front, I've over taken, WTF is happening" kind of stuff.

It's confusion, and it seems that Mclaren are just so desperate not to make a mistake, so they're not making any real decisions. That conversation really says "please keep in fourth, we don't want you to be penalised again".

Okay, it looks like they then tried to play something to their advantage with the stewards, but what? Hamilton was in third legitimately. They lie to get Trulli penalised? Why? The enquiry after the race was guaranteed to give Hamilton third, even if he admitted confusion. It just seems that nobody really knew the rules, or what would happen. It's paranoia and people so busy trying to cover themselves they've screwed up - you get that when you've been bullied...

All they had to say was we told lewis to let him pass, and Lewis they told me to let him pass.

That would have been the end of it, but no they lied and now this.

All depends what the FIA do now tbh but they can throw them out.

I agree, but maybe they were thinking "Lewis passed illegally and they're going to throw the book at him again for it"?

I'd like to see a transcript of the stewards enquiry. I'll bet they didn't lie, just omitted the truth. Kind of "So, what happened Lewis?"

"I saw Trulli go off and passed him. Then he came past me"

No lie, just an omission of the whole truth. Did Trulli say "I had to pass you Lewis, you were going slow and pulled over"?

He certainly said it later, but during that initial inquiry?

I don't know, it just seems that Mclaren know they've screwed up. They've made a mistake, but exactly how much is premeditated I don't know. Especially considering that they know everything is monitored and recorded.

I think they'd like to, but I suspect that it may have too many nasty negative effects.

The thing is though, they knew that what they had said on the team radio as furie's post shows.

To then say something totally to the contrary to the stewards thinking that they weren't going to check the team radio was stupid, wrong and not sporting at all.

I have to admit, this is something I'd have expected from Ferrari or Flavio at Renault.

And yes, because it is McLaren I think they'll throw them out.

Throw them out of what? F1? Don't be silly.

Either way I doubt Mclaren or Lewis Hamilton would go out of there way to try to get Trulli penalised, they wouldn't gain anything from it.

Some confusion has gone on and because Mclaren know what its like regarding giving back places (Hamilton giving back the place to Raikonnen last season) they didn't make an immediate decision which has cost them.

Either way its pathetic and the FIA are really pushing their luck with the F1 fans. If they rule this rear diffuser that Brawn have illegal and take Button and Barrichello's points im never watching it again.

In fact if Mclaren had this rear diffuser, you could bet your life it would be ruled illegal.

Well this is how Mclaren see it and some other people.

Normally in the world you take the last order you are given. The 1st order to Lewis was let him pass then they said keep him behind you. So its sort of 50/50 on how you see it, a lie or not a lie.

I still can't see what they had to gain by lying? Trulli punished (not even knowing what that punishment would be)?

Just doesn't make sense. All that makes sense is that they knew they'd ****ed up and knew the FIA would roast them for it.

Damned no matter what kind of thing (as I said before, it reminds me of exactly the same way people who are bullied react).

That link doesn't work Marc. I'd like to read the transcript. :(

Its on www.fia.com

Mclaren today have susspended Dave Ryan the race manager and Lewis has just given a press confrence saying that Dave had mislead him into withholding information. Its all on www.autosport.com

I think they have just made the guy a scape goat tbh, but who knows.

I did say yesterday at work I wonder why Lewis changed his story from what he said straight after the race, maybe Dave did not know Lewis had already spoken to tv channels.

What a mess.

God, you wouldn't know who to believe any more. I wonder how much its going to effect the team this weekend.

McLaren probably thought better off him taking the blame rather than Hamilton because it may affect his championship. If Dave Ryan does come back after the suspension how much damage to the relationship with Hamilton will have been done.
