What's new

Formula 1 2009

I think the blame was fairly even between the two of them, but Vettel shouldn't have gone around apologising to all and sundry afterwards!

Just WOW! Im going to watch this religiously when I go home for the summer. But a fantastic win for Brawn!

(Reason can't watch is that I don't hold a TV licence and its just better off not to get caught)

When I posted that about Massa he was 3rd, 2 laps later he was out lol.

Thank god Kubica and Vettel cashed as he may have got Button.

BUt people do have to remember Button and Vettel were 30 seconds up the road before the safety car.

Great work by Lewis maybe now people will agree he can race in a poor car.

Watch it online?

I know you technically have to have a license to do that too, but chances of being caught are highly unlikely...

Still not convinced Marc, he only overtook 5 people

But he's moving up my rankings, almost in my top 10! What is the world coming too?

Anywho, the race itself, I like Marc thought that Ferrari could have very possibly pulled an ace out of their sleeves in deploying soft tyres to start with and gambling on the likely chance of a safety car.

When said safety car did appear then they looked almost certain of a double podium, if not the win itself. (If the rules under the safety car were the same as last year then they would have won 1-2  )

Unfortunately the inigma that goes by the name of Kimi Raikkonen inexplicably fell off the track and a bout of Italian reliability took away Massa's chances. Never mind eh.

As for Button, fantastic, drove like Schumacher, led every lap of the race and his only mistake (if you can call it that), was stopping in his pit box in 2nd gear! Although he was trying to avoid a broken and slow moving Ferrari on his way into the pits.

In the end the 1-2 for Brawn was brilliant for them, and there is without doubt no better way to please your sponsor!

I am, like many others thoroughly looking forward to how this season progresses. But I feel the advantage at Brawn will be lost after Malaysia when the FIA say the diffuser is perfectly legal and the teams will simply install their own versions. They say it's worth 0.6 secs a lap, so that would be the advantage gone and it would make other teams move up on a par with them (and certainly past Williams and Toyota  ).

But they will still run away with the second race as their advantage with it is quite massive. Roll on win #3 for Button!

Its not just a case of fitting the diffuser though and gaining .6 a lap.

On some cars like the RBR car and Ferrari they will need an entire new back end and this will need testing, which is banned.

The diffuser I think will be banned, not due to the fact its illegal but due to the fact it effects a car following close which was the idea of the new rules.

The FIA messed up yet again by not thinking people would see a loophole, we shall see though.

Neal they also now recon that Kimi spun off due to a car problem, that in the end put him out. But bloody hell that Ferrari is strong, he hit a wall and did not even need a new wing lol.

Lewis used his head in this race, something he did not always do last year so its an improvment. He let the race come to him and got 3rd from last which is impresive seeing how close the field is.

So we got a Merc 1-2-3 not sure if thats been done before.

I see, so Italian reliability FTW again!

I think they must still have Brawn's secrets of building a strong car somewhere then.

We got that everytime there was a McLaren 1-2 behind the safety car

I just saw a re-run of the race (THANK YOU BBCi). I saw most of it yesterday before leaving for thorpe, but missed the last 15 or so laps. Good on Button, a drive that should without a doubt silence his critics. Great drives from Rubens and Lewis also, and also Buemi. I honestly thought he shouldn't be there, but he shut me up.
I think the accident at the end was 50/50 They were both as much to blame as each other.

How lucky was Rubens yesterday to come in 2nd. His front wing must have been indestructible, even with 2 smashes it still held up and then with Vettel and Kubica coming together to benefited by 2 places. I couldn't believe it.

Very enjoyable race especially seeing Button finishing first and the safety car helping keeping the field bunched up. I just hope the rest of the season continues in this manner.

Cant believe Vettel and Kubica took each other out, cant believe the Ferraris finished last, cant believe Lewis did so well, can't believe a new team got a 1-2 and have been tipped by Massa to win by summer. Well done Brawn, well done!

It looks like that Brawn is just genuinely quick. Barrichello has said that after playing pinball at the start, his diffuser was completely broke, and he still managed to get (an albeit fortuitous) 2nd.

I'll hand it to you Neal, I disagreed with you when you said Button would be winning races, but you were right!

Its a damn shame about Vettel for the next race though. It seems illogical that he should get that penalty and Kubica doesn't, in what was at best a 50/50 incident. Vettel lost it a bit under braking into the turn, but Kubica was barely 25% past him. Vettel held the inside line and then followed a normal line out of the corner, but Kubica held the centre of the track when he could've gone wider and still held the place. Vettel's basically apportioned blame to himself though for apologising so profusely afterwards.

I reckon that the FIA are a bit annoyed that he was driving round the track with bits falling off his car and have decided they need to punish him for that as much as the accident, which was hardly his fault.

Anyway, the race has put in an awkward position, because I want to root for Brawn GP because it's good for the sport that a "new" team has come in and won from the off, as it gives hope that the remaining two constructors positions might eventually be filled by other teams (perhaps prodrive will step up for next year?).

But on the other hand, Ross Brawn and Jensen Button are both obnoxious and irritable idiots, I'll concede that Brawn has at least got talent whereas Jensen is still the talentless hack he has been, and the sooner he slides back down the slippery slope to anonimity the better.

Well its all set to kick off this weekend.

No team has been named yet, but one using KERS is using 96bhp more not 80.

Complaints are expected this weekend.

No idea they have not said yet.

Its been worked out using sound recording of engine notes. I dont think it Renault as Alonso said their system was no good.

I have a funny feeling its Mclaren tbh. Lewis was so fast down the straights in a car that was having problems getting onto the straights.

^ That'd be the red team I was talking about :p

Yeah, I thought they were having cornering issues, which seemed to be downplayed by huge speed on the straight, which was odd for a limited engine etc.

Plus if it is them, then they will be DQ'd now doubt about it.
