I find that every year that passes I get more and more excited about the start of the next F1 season. I've spent a few days watching some testing at Circuit de Catalunya which was really good fun – in a way more interesting to watch than a race weekend! It was such an informal atmosphere, with cars out on track from 9am-5pm constantly and music blasting out of the grandstands.
Having been a McLaren fan since the days of Häkkinen and Coulthard, I find myself disagreeing with the changes they have been making this last year and have unintentionally found myself now supporting Lewis at Merc over McLaren. I feel a bit like a traitor to them, but they need to get Whitmarsh out! I’ll be over the moon if Lewis gets drivers and McLaren the constructors championship, but I’ll eat my hat if that actually happens!
There is something special about getting up early for the first race in Melbourne to kick in the new season. I love it and would rather be getting up earlier at 4am rather than the new later 7am starts. Big cup of tea, bacon and turn on the laptop to find the only people online are F1 fans for banter. Plus, it means it doesn't take any time out of the normal weekend plans!
I've got my tickets for the Spanish and British Grand Prix this year and looking to do another at the end of the year, possibly Monza, although I think that might be on the cards for 2014 too. I’m trying to get the most of the V8 sound before it dies, although we have been assured that the V6’s next year will sound just as good…
I've entered a team, but my drive choice is based on who I support rather than who I think will get the most points. Bring on Friday morning!
