Dreamland Margate News

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

Going by what has been said on UKRides, they have:

Flying Scooters - Pleasureland
King Solomons Mine - Pleasureland
Water Chute - ....
Kiddy Whip - Blackpool
The rotating base Ferris Wheel - Pleasureland/Bottons - not 100% confirmed though.
The Whip - Blackpool
Turtle Chase - Blackpool
River Cave boats - Pleasureland
Haunted Swing - Pleasureland
Fun House rides - Pleasureland

Also, I have my fingers crossed that they'll salvage a few of the rides from Loudoun, as there was some real classics up there (many of which were originally from Margate...).

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

Maybe they can return the looping star to margate from there?

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

Hi, I am new here but have followed this forum for some time now.
Anyway, the above list is pretty much correct. Just a few corrections.

The main mechanical parts and boats for the Water Chute (Rhyl)
River Caves mechanical parts/water wheel and boats.
The mechanical parts and rotating cars for the Ghost Train
The Mirror Maze and Haunted Swing from Southport.
The Caterpillar from Southport
The Cable way from Southport
The Meteorite from Southport (bad condition however)
As for the Tumble Bug, I am afraid I do not think that made it unless it is being kept under secrecy.

As well as all this, it seems that the Trust also want to acquire a Helter Skelter, Dodgems and a Carousel.
I too would also not be surprised if some classic rides from Loudoun were donated as well.
Having said that, most of the rides were sold off except the Giant Margate Chairswing, Silver Arrow Looping Star, a S&S Space Shot and a few smaller rides.

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

It would be so good if they got hold of the Looping Star/Twist n Shout, but I cant see that being 'donated'. Is there not any chance that they would offer to pay for such an attraction?

Yeah I doubt that Twist n Shout would just be donated, it would be fantastic if it was, even if it isn't I would think such a ride would cost much?

Regardless, this is brilliant news, and I`m impressed they intend to have it done by early 2014.

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

It's going to be "staged". So 2014 won't be a finished park. That's when they hope to have the Scenic rebuilt and opened with a handful of other rides. Things like the River Caves and Water Chute that actually require "original construction" will open later.

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

So glad to finally hear about this going ahead. Finally, a park that's actually proud of their heritage of their rides, and not creating the false impression that they are (PleasureBeach).

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

Isn't it weird that one of guys fighting agains't this park, actually works for BPB, yet BPB donated quite a few rides to the Dreamland Trust....?

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

Nick Laister has worked for PBB in the past and so has a "professional working relationship" with the Thompson family. Hence the reason he was able to secure old rides :)

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

Fab.

So... can I count Scenic and Solomon's again? Water Chute is OBV going to be a new cred...

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

It certainly will be good to have the Scenic back in business again.
As for the Mouse and Water chute, they will sadly be emerging in the park at a later date when funding becomes available.

Obviously the Scenic is a restoration, as is the Wild Mouse.
The Water Chute however will probably be classed as a replica as apposed to a rebuild , though I don't know that for sure. In fact it could be the other way around.
Either way three 'woodies' for Dreamland.

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

Does anyone know when the council/Dreamland Trust will finally have access to the site, the keys to the kingdom as it were? Will they be starting work straight away?

Until then, a little bit of me will still be anxious for the Scenic: until it's actually in the hands of Trust and they start repairing it, I still feel a bit nervous for its safety.

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

I don't think even they know yet. First they need to do have a site valuation hearing and try to acquire the title of the land. Of course, my only worry is that the owners will appeal against the CPO which they are considering apparently. Having said that, I doubt it would be worth it as they would have to waste even more money for the appeal and would have to know that they would win. Beside I think it has been made obvious over the past few days that the public interest lies with the Trust and the Heritage Park and not the owners and their 400 houses and a few odd rides proposal.

^That is a very good point though. The ride is still deteriorating by the day, and it is a bit worrying to know that MTCRC still have possession of the coaster. I think until the council own the site, a bit of me will still be worrying about the welfare of the Scenic.

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

Really excited about this, hopefully they recapture the nostalgia without making things too modern and stuff. Also, new creds yay <3

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

Yeah, I too am really pleased with this decision. I drove past the park the other week, and it just looks so sad. Whilst the town is clearly still a dump, with the gallery and that, the other end is clearly on the up. It will be nice for a bit of that new life to spread along the front.

Yeah, surely it can't be hard for them to find a helter skelter and a carousel (and maybe a couple of other 'classic' travelling type rides) in reasonable condition. They can pretty much be plonked in alongside the Scenic (once it's done) and get the park going whilst they work on the rest.

Does anyone know what era are they going to stretch to? I would've thought that Looping Star (1980's?) would be a bit too modern? Slightly crappy coasters from the 80s/90s can be found along the British coast. In order to be unique, I think they need to concentrate on on the 20s/30s era which will go nicely with the Scenic. I see it kind of like an extension of one of those old penny arcades. The whole point of those is that they're entirely comprised of machines that are all from the same era, and that you can't find elsewhere. If you shoved an 80s pinball machine in the corner, whilst it may be a 'classic' by our standards, it just wouldn't fit and would ruin it.

Oh, plus, creds <3

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

Here's a question, how many years are they expecting this park to succeed for? Dont want to sound all negative, but adding 'new' rides is going to be fairly tricky if they are to be true to their word, and stick to the real vintage stuff...

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

^Hmm very good question. I suppose rides will pop up every few years as parks progress and remove some of their older attractions, but it would certainly be interesting to know what their long term plan is.

^^Hey Nic, and don't quote me on this, but I believe that in terms of the rides, there will be no specific overall set era. For example the 1960's Meteorite ride will probably be themed to a 50s retro space theme whereas the Caterpillar will probably support a vintage 1920's look.

However in terms of buildings and the general landscape, I think we are talking 1920s/1940s as they want to have a mix of Streamline and art deco style buildings with supergraphics and such (similar to the Buffet building that is still on the site now and the old Dreamland Coach Station)
Other than that, I am not too sure. Hope it helped though. ;)

Re: Scenic Railway in Margate news

Finally caught up with this news (late to the party again!) and all credit to Nick Laister. He's campiagned tirelessly for Dreamland and it's great that's he's finally got a shot of running it. Best wishes to him, he deserves it!

Due to the significance of the the Scenic and the long campaign to get the site up and running again, it's a park I look forward to visiting when it opens, even if the proposed ride line up doesn't really excite me. I like the idea of a "traditional" seaside park, I just hope it can create enough enthuism and business to survive.

Is that the Waveswinger from Loudoun Castle, that used to be at Dreamland before?

Oh... geek alert! I hope each ride has a little sign by the entrance detailing when it was built, who by, and the history of the ride (where it has been before etc). :D
