Drayton Manor - new coaster for 2014

The zoo doesn't really add much to the park and looks really outdated, I wouln't miss it if it went. Much rather a coaster than some animals.

they confirmed last year there would be new enclosures in the next couple of years at the zoo and its very popular with families so it is highly unlikely they would ever get rid of it.

Sssh the zoo is amazing, the angry chimp that throws **** at people! They'll never get rid of the zoo.

What DMP needs is a "woodie" like "Wooden Warrior" at Quassy Amusement Park, a lovely small not to high coaster with plenty of "airtime"..

Why would they build a ride like Wooden Warrior when the park could build alot higher and make something much more thrilling?

^I guess because it would be a relatively small investment compared to other rides, so in case it bombs with the public, they won't have wasted that much money. After all, it's been mentioned in several threads that UK parks don't seem to want to take a risk by building woodies, seeing as they are apparently perceived as old-fashioned, rickety and "unsafe".

And if the public loves it, it might help reintroduce the wooden coaster to the UK.

^Agreed. Plus, who's to say they want a huge, thrilling coaster? They seem to have gone much more down the family route of late meaning that's now mostly who they attract. They need to keep that in mind when planning anything new.

That said, when we spoke to Colin last year, he did say that the next coaster would be "one for the big boys" so who knows?

EDIT: By the way, I've just noticed on their website that parking is only "free" if you buy your park tickets in advance online. If you buy tickets on the gate, parking will still set you back £3 per car.

A family wood at Drayton would actually be perfect.

It would make me want to go there. Cuz right now, they'd have to pay me.

Shockwave wont be going anywhere any time soon, they have just gotten 2 new trains for it this year and it still stands as the best crowd pleaser out of the coasters.

That isn't true. They just repainted the two existing trains in horrible and garish new designs.

Apart from that, barely anything has changed on Shockwave from last year to this year. This 'refurb' that's been mentioned a few times didn't happen. The ride is still rotting away.

^^ & ^ They rebuilt and refurbished the trains during the 2011-2012 closed season. So yes, they're not new but it wasn't just a repaint either. From what I can gather, there are no immediate or long term plans to remove Shockwave.

Height & speed is not always the answer to a thrilling ride, there are plenty of amazing "wooden" coasters around like "Troy", "Voyage", "Colossos", "Wodan Timbur Coaster", "Balder" etc.

As long as "GG" or "GCI" design & build the coaster then it will impress everyone & prove once & for all "wooden" coasters are not old-fashioned, rickety and "unsafe". Why not have a world's 1st "launched woodie as this is the next thing to happen after SDC's "Outlaw Run".

Loads of people who go on holiday to Europe, USA & Far East ride "wooden" coasters & I bet they would love to see a decent one built in England.

Im not saying that wooden coasters are not thrilling, but when a park can build a much bigger and better wooden coaster than Wooden Warrior, why not.
By the way all those wooden coasters what you used as an example are al rather tall and fast.

I would love Drayton to get a wooden coaster, but not one as small as Wooden Warrior when they can do much better. Even though Wooden Warrior is still petty awsome for it's size.

Drayton still have planning regulations to overcome. They have limited places they can place a new coaster and Shockwave's structure is in the area the new coaster could go, so that gives the upper height limit I guess? Though with a wooden structure being considerably more dense, I'll bet it's even harder to get through planning.

Didn't we all agree a while back that if any UK park were to get a woodie, it'd be Drayton? Not that it'll happen though.

Nah, I think now Thorpe will proberly get the woodie now (which they were meant to in 2009) with a new wooden hyprid coaster. As for Drayton, phreaps a multi-launch Mack coaster.

You do realise that you've just listed a good selection of Europe's - and the world's - tallest and fastest wooden coasters, right?

Glad im not the only one who thought that Gavin.

As for what I think the next coaster at Drayton will be, im betting on a Mack launch coaster aswell.

If what was said a few pages back was true, about them adding a Splash Battle next year, it'll most likely be a Mack.

Two ride deal 2013 and 2014...?
