Drayton Manor - new coaster for 2014

As much as I'd love this to happen...the layout does seen a bit plain and fairly boring, nothing unique or Crazy like G-force. It could at least utilize the terrain by including a high speed turn into a depression rather than a series of fairly low turns. Reminds me of Manta...but slightly worse.

Yes the layout isn't great compared to other launch coasters, but for Drayton I think this would be FAB. It would bridge the gap between the smaller and larger coasters...

But shouldn't they address the fact that all their larger coasters are rubbish, before they start bridging any gaps?

Ben 10 is a perfectly adequate halfway coaster, they just need a big thrill coaster that isn't total crap.

But thats your opinion.

If them coasters are popular enough with the GP (who are like what, 98% of visitors), then there's no issue for the park really.

Agreed, plus I actually like Shockwave. It's far from the worst "major" coaster a park could have (it could have been an SLC) and while G-Force is almost universally loathed by the enthusiast community, it's a popular coaster with guests (and I have friends who aren't enthusiasts who refuse to ride it because it looks so daunting, friends who will ride Oblivion (though terrified).

So yeah, it's not a startling line-up by any means, but they have "big and frightening" and nothing kind of between that and the kids stuff.

I think I can see why people dislike them, but I actually think G-Force is pretty fab, god knows why. Its all to do with that hype thing again. Like you say, pretty much all enthusiasts dislike G-Force, so I really wasn't expecting much, but I thought it was quite good.

Shockwave would be good if it wasn't a stand-up. But in saying that, its good we have a park like Drayton, otherwise the UK wouldn't have a; Intamin Gyro Swing, Intamin Drop Tower, Intamin/B&M Stand Up, Vekoma Junior Boomerang and a MS X-car.

So... I was being a google earth/maps geek and decided to look at Drayton. They must have done the area again recently as Ben 10 is there.

It looks like they've been doing some sort of land clearance between Shockwave/The Rapids and the secondary car park:

It's probably nothing to do with the coaster, but now I'm thinking about it, something fairly big could squeeze in there. I've always thought the area around Shockwave's exit (and where Black Revolver was) felt like a huge waste of space. Maybe if they're getting the new flat, and perhaps something is going in where they're messing around, they could create a nice little extra area of the park.

^ When I hob-nobbed it several bigh-up people from DMP earlier this year, I was told (not sure if it was in confidence or not, but **** it), that the Black Revolver site was going to house the new flat ride. There were markings on ground nearby showing it's footprint.

I was told the coaster will go in the wasteland near the Buffalo Coaster and use the lake, but you could be on to something.

The accountants said that they must pay off the hotel before investing in new rides. It's promising that they scrapped the parking charge half way through the season; if they needed the money, they would have kept the charge. Maybe this clearance is where a redesigned coaster is going? It would cost a lot less than building above water.

Somebody needs to find the time to scout through the planning permission applications for DMP's council.

They scrapped a parking charge mid season? Wow. I didn't know they even introduced one, but I have a lot of respect that.

Whatever they build, I hope it's following the path started by Ben 10, their first quality addition.

OMG a parking charge at Drayton?

How much was it? Either way, like Joey I'm pleased they reverted thehir decision whether realising it negatively impacted on guests or they just didn't need the extra income from that source.

It waso nly around £2, I think.

IIRC, a while back there was a strong rumour about Shockwave being removed/replaced with their next major coaster? This was a few years back now, and what Ian has said is a lot more recent, so that probably was just a rumour.

Shockwave wont be going anywhere any time soon, they have just gotten 2 new trains for it this year and it still stands as the best crowd pleaser out of the coasters.

Yeah, I always thought the Shockwave rumours were a bit weird - it's still quite a major crowd puller (not really nationally, but there are a hell of a lot of people who live locally to the park in the West Midlands who absolutely love it). Well, the recent revamp of the ride puts these rumours to death anyway I think. Also, it was designed with the Rapids in mind, so taking it out wouldn't actually give them that much space really.

Just found a better picture of the 'site', the other one was more of a birds eye view so you couldn't see the extent of it...

There is an access road going right through the middle of it, but it could be easily spited as it runs parallel to another road (the one guests use to get to the car park) and they could easily start using that instead.

I was always under the impression that they didn't want to use the field Ian was talking about - they use it for the fireworks, and also in the summer they often have a circus tent and stuff on it. It's basically their only available bit of land to put random stuff on (especially since they recently paved over the large overflow car park field). Obviously if they did mention it, they must've been considering it at some point.

I do think next to Shockwave would be better though. It would probably be easier to get planning permission being right next to a large coaster, plus, the shape of the area would fit a medium sized launched coaster or something quite well.

Time will tell!

As far as i was aware the next roller coaster was 100% confirmed for the buffalo site/the field next to it but not until 2014/2015

next year is the refurb of excalibur as a splash battle and the possible new thrill ride for the black revolver site.

I'd find it odd if they stuck a major coaster behind Shockwave like that.

t would be like Alton Towers building a coaster behind Nemesis...

I read somewhere that Drayton wanted to expand the park into the Longwood car park. There were also plans to do away with the zoo...
