Yeah. Actually, it makes it sound like this might not have any unique features after all. It could just mean something like 'loads of loopz, intense coaster!' rather than an actual world first or whatever.

-Pentasupport-

Looks like a structure I would make through inventive use of Custom Supports in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.

I eagerly await my 'cobra cage' to exist in reality on any cobra roll on any coaster.

A few months ago, maybe 1 or 2, the admins of TowersTimes recieved a message from Alton Towers, that when the secret element arrives, the workers will make a tent so that the helicopter cannot take any images of it. I think this confirms that there will be a world's first.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1st

It would be funny if the 'secret element' was the break-run and they're just trolling.

World's First secret breaks.

Bahahaha, people genuinely beleive this geek tripe?

Anyone could say that. Why would Towers even waste their time, if anything they're probably pissing themselves about how pathetic it is the effort TT go to get photos!

Even if I do appriciate a nice arieal view of the site, no1 can deny it's embarassingly pathetic to go to that much effort.

A correction to my previous post. Alton didn't contact towerstimes, but one of towerstimes' admins spoke to a person from management who said they will place a tent to cover the world's first part when it arrives. Here is what the admin wrote on the matter.

I've already spoken to someone in management, if they want to put tents up to stop us getting shots from the sky that fair enough, however I've already said we will blur out certain images, so if this is a recent thing, they are wasting money as TowersTimes isn't going to be revieling the secret element. The exception to this is if they waste money trying to do so. Wasting money will simply result in us going to a secondary source out of principle. This isn't Area 51 unforuantly, and a lot of contacts are willing to talk.

The only thing I find interesting in this, is that it's been confirmed a world's first element will be included. :--D

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1st

What if they're only trying to plant the idea that this element is the best thing to hit Britain since tea? They hype it up, everybody talks about it, and word goes that this is so awesome and exciting that it would be a crime to yourself if you missed it.

Then, when it is discovered that this has been done several times before/is only "new" if you're really liberal with definitions/is really pants, the idea has already set among the fans, and it takes a while to tone it down. Get our hopes up, then assume they will stay up until we've all ridden it.
Besides, the rest of the coaster should be spectacular enough, so the "secret" part would have to be one huge disappointment for the coaster to fail. The "secret" part is only the macguffin they throw at us to make us talk and spread the word. Once known, the coaster will sustain its own popularity by virtue of the rest of its layout.

I doubt they'll do that, it was probably (if it was said) a joke to wind up the geek up, they're easy and fun to wind up, trust me. They don't care. Really, they don't.

If they do build a tent to stop people taking photos...it will be for a day so that newspapers can ironically take pictures over a morning to promote the ride and talk about how desperate people are to find out about it...then take it down. Or it will be to keep rain off a particular part of construction.

And it doesn't confirm a world's first element, because anyone can say they "spoke to management" since when did the operations teams know anything anyway? If you want confirmed details talk to Merlin's Marketing team or Studios. I dunno why that site makes out that it's "in the know" and that they'll help keep secrets for towers. In reality they're just seen as a pest to the business and strive to be the biggest know-it-alls in the community.

Sorry I don't condone slating other sites and I understand some sites do hold strong relationships with parks but some things to grind my gears. This is my opinion not an opinion shared by CF as a whole.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1st

What grinds my gears is the amount of 'reliable sourced information' from anonymous or un-named sources. Just because many people tip off the same thing, doesn't mean it's likely. Just means a coincidence that many people have the same assumption. Oh and slagging off other sites.
For the record. I think people are less likely to die in a helicopter which they're trained to fly than someone sneaking into forbidden areas which are forbidden for people's safety. No one is harmed this way. So why should it be a problem? In fact a Flight instructor is employed in these tough and economic times.

I'm not going to slag off another site because that would be unprofessional, but really? Who, the actual ****, do these people think they are?

Oh, and construction is looking amazing (I'm sure; I haven't looked) and I can't wait to ride this on opening day (though I probably won't go)!

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1st

^ Yeah, it's a bit weird isn't it.

I do quite like the helicopter photos, but I don't really know why a fan site is being so spiteful about the place they're supposed to fap over. If Alton do actually browse the site they're not going to be very happy about it. The photos are one thing, but the way they're talking about everything is pretty disrespectful. It's different on a site like CF because it's a general forum which doesn't revolve around one particular park (apart from Paultons, obv)... TT are treading on thin ice though I think!

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1st

Slight Slagging I dislike the term "Free Publicity for AT" used by TT because it's misleading. Yes, it is free publicity, but only to people who are likely to visit and ride anyway. The people who AT want and need to advertise to will never see the pictures. If they want to use them they'd have to 'ask' TT to use them due to ownership of the images. TT could then use the 'we let AT use our photographs'.
It's just preaching to the choir.

The aerial photographs are basically Roller Coaster Construction Engineering porn. That's all they are.

I'm expecting AT to release some implicit advertising at New Year's when people are thinking about what they might do for the next year.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1st

I love when people take pictures, place it on the internet, which actually makes it public domain unless there is a monetary value behind it and then grows really big hairy ballbags claiming legal action against anyone using their images, which have sod-all protection other than a watermark and some words on a forum.

Oh ermm hi :D

I think the new element will include a helicopter with a man taking photos.. A kinda, Madame Tussauds London entrance, only more blinding and confusing.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1st

You fail copyright law forever :)

Publishing something on the Internet automatically gives you copyright over it.

To put something in the public dormain you have to declare that it is.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1st

Really? So it doesn't work like music? I thought it comes under the same creative rights law like music.

If I was to post a song in a public forum like Youtube, or here or anywhere, I lose all rights over it unless there are things in place to protect it. Does that not apply to pictures? Can I really be sued for using a photo with no legal documents behind it?

No, I thought not.

In legalese speak, public domain images are creative or original works not protected under intellectual property laws.
Source: pdimages.com

These images aren't even licensed under creative commons, which you can easily get online for a very small fee.

You may be shocked to find out that once you post on these sites, that although you still “own” the photograph, you grant the social media sites a license to use your photograph anyway they see fit for free AND you grant them the right to let others use you picture as well!

Some of TT's photo's lay on Facebook too, for subscribed members only. However, by posting on Facebook, they've granted Facebook and its public to freely distribute and edit as we please.

I'm not sure if I fail at anything to be honest with you, Idlewild.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1st

I'm sure AT would love to use aerial photographs with a watermark splattered on them.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1st

Bloody hell, I haven't peaked in this topic for weeks and people are still bleating on about the helicopter images? WTF.

In three months time, it'll be open and hopefully the secret element will be a nice surprise for everybody. Let's face it, if we know what to expect, we'll be picking away at it until opening day and it'll be anti-climatic (read: Th13teen).

I see no point - except for teasing others, which I would get a kick out of tbh - about knowing what is happening with SW7.

If you wish to go round in circles like helicopter blades talking about the helicopter shots, then do so on TTF. If you want to post them on here, feel free, I don't mind. If somebody on TTF has a problem with that, then they can contact me.
