I don't get it? Why is the 'flying dinosaur' towing a metal industrial contraption? It literally makes zero sense.

Would have preferred a color scheme more in the spirit of the Jurassic Park Jeeps and Ford Explorers. However props on using the old JP logo on the trains.

Maybe it's meant to be a new Jurassic park "ride" (like the monorail or bubble things in the new film) where a Pterosaur caries you for a flight over the park?? Alternatively it just isn't meant to be logical.

It's a shame they can't theme the individual cars to have wings but that would probably be a clearance and cost nightmare.

It looks to me like the ride vehicles are some sort of hover car, a bit like those Gyrospheres in JW, and that they are following the pterosaur, rather than being dragged?

This is the story behind the ride as presented by USJ: https://www.usj.co.jp/e/jurassic-park-t ... -dinosaur/

Since its opening in 2001, Jurassic Park has been a favorite of guests around the world. Within its grounds, there is a hidden area inhabited by wild Pteranodons, for which human management is kept to a minimum.
The Jurassic Park development team researched for years in order to create a dream attraction that would allow guests to fly through the sky with these dinosaurs.
Finally, they trained the wild Pteranodons and managed to get them to fly while stabilized. However, though they have been thoroughly trained, they are still wild dinosaurs.
They say that it's possible to suddenly lose control while in flight, so beware...

Now, to dig a little bit into the movie canon, this roller coaster is indeed based on the flying Pterosaur scene from Jurassic World:

However, those privy to the series will also know that the new movie park is titled "Jurassic World", with "Jurassic Park" having closed after the first movie.

So while this roller coaster is based on the events of the latest movie, USJ provides an alternative story "theme" behind the roller coaster that takes place in Jurassic Park, rather than Jurassic World. So yeah, movie logic need not apply.

Oh, and Pterosaurs are still not flying dinosaurs. Flying reptiles my friends, reptiles.

From the pics availible, I'm not a fan of the loading area. Looks a bit claustrophobic and very Merlin (Raptor/Smiler). Not what I would have expected from Universal, but the ride looks fab. Oh well!

Airtime? On...a flyer? What?

Flyers are gross, you're all fools.

^I think so too, but this and Starry Sky Ripper are the only exceptions.

Tatsu what?

The flying genre certainly hasn't been the most popular, especially if you lump in the Vekoma Flying Dutchman. However there are some fantastic flying models out in the world, with the newer ones offering far more advanced and interesting layouts than the original Superman cook-cutter.

Glad to see it's open, and looking forward to more off-ride video to show off some of that pacing.

Yh, I've been on loads of them, all different shapes and sizes. It's not the layout or whatever that I don't like, it's the way they ride. I hate the position, I always feel like blood is rushing to my head. My hair gets in my face and I can't see and then there's the fact that my boobs get squished into the restraints. No amount of change in layout is going to change that.

I can definitely appreciate that Jordan. I guess I was so blown away with how comfortable the B&M Flyer restraint was after years of putting up with X-Flight/Firehawk; call it pre-conditioning?
