Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Walibi Holland has filed a permit for a new family attraction to replace the long dormant Go-Karts. Little has been disclosed other than it’ll open next year and take up this rectangle outlined here:

Said rectangle is 75 by 38 meters in size, and whatever’s set to be built on the land is said to be 12 meters at its max height. The Halloween attraction ”The Final Hideout”, which last year used the Go-Kart station building for the queue line, will not be returning for this year’s Halloween event so construction can begin on the 2023 addition.

Belantis in Saxony, Germany hopes to open a major new ride by 2025. The park’s managing director confirmed in an interview that the park has presented their plans to Parques Reunidos’s shareholders and are currently awaiting approval. The park had already hoped to add a new ride back in 2020, but the pandemic scuttled any plans. The director did not confirm wether this would be a new coaster or not, nor gave an exact timeline other than the 2025 deadline, citing the incoming energy crisis and supply chain delays as factors that could impact the construction schedule.

The park’s last two additions were the Gerstlauer family coaster Cobra Des Amun Ra in 2015, and the ”ANCA” family ride in 2017. The park was then purchased by PR in 2018.

Family Kingdom in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina just got bought by Broadway Amusements LLC. This company owns and operates the rides at Broadway at the Beach and the small park where Slingshot is. Hopefully, this is good news for the park, when I visited the Arm Shot and Drop Tower, Gokart Tracks, Ferris Wheel, and Arcade looked like they have been closed for a while. The park looked like a shell of its former self and the latest addition was a Carnival Slingshot that replace the classic Sizzler/Scrambler attraction.
Also across the street Family, Kingdom Splashes the waterpark across street is also sitting abandoned.

Another one bites the dust. Linnanmäki’s Huss Top Spin ”Kieputin” is being retired after 28 years. The park needs space to build new attractions and so it had to go. Its replacement is set to come in 2024, but no details have been shared on what that is yet.

Demolition of the old go-kart track has already (or if you look at it another way, finally) begun.

Universal Orlando, Busch Gardens, and all other Sea World properties will be closed Weds and Thurs due to hurricane Ian.

Disney have closed some accomodation options, but haven't made a decision on the parks and Springs yet.

Joris en de Draak is recieving some GCI Titan Track during this winter’s refurbishment, becoming the first wooden coaster in Europe to use it.

The track will be placed in the turnaround alongside Python as that’s apparently the section that sees the most stress on the regular. Efteling plans to overhaul the entire coaster with both new wood and more steel track over the coming three years, hoping to reduce maintenance needs and keep the coaster up and running in the long term.

Having ridden it less than a month ago, I didn’t find it rough at all, but I can see why this was done.

So Skyline have shown off some track.

So what do we think we might see? Skywarp 2, a different thrill "coaster" or their p'Sghetti family coaster? After their redo i do hope we get to see one of their new coaster designs come to life.

Here are some links to what rides they do.

That entire RMC AMA was just them pouring gas on the thoosie fire and just watching it burn. Very little solid info came out of that regarding future projects. They did say that they were working on an international project however. They also mentioned - and subsequently doubled down on via Twitter - that there would be a T Rex update coming this week. I was under the impression that this model was shelved years ago, so interesting to see if this is substantial;
