Rhein Airtime (Germany Live) Trip reports!

Lolol.

Who was it who bought the Alien Encounter ORP, and why hasn't it been posted yet!?

Babelfish and Dictionary.com say it means course. Which is the most logical thing for it to mean because it has such broad usage. We saw it on a variety of things that it could not possibly mean railway.

It depends on context. You can't translate that directly.

Autobahn clearly does not mean automobile railway, now does it? And the log flume had "bahn" on the end of it too. If it meant "course" or "way" or "track" (which it DOES) it fits into EVERY context we saw it used on.

I win.

And thanks Joey for that picture of me dropping my food not appearing any where
You mean this one...?

Fit.

Did Will I Am take his radios?

Yeah we put them in my bag at the airport and they stayed there till Friday morning, we pretty much never convoyed between parks and hotels, the sat-nav units pretty much sent us in different directions - no major mess ups though!

Right, time to start my trip reports! I'm doing them one park at a time, and hope to do atleast 1 report each day. :p I've taken about 580 pictures which i'm also going though, editing and plan on sticking up all the good ones once i've finished, which will probably take a few weeks at this rate!

There is a hell of alot to talk about!

15th July – Movie Park Germany

Up at 3:45am for the beginning of the trip! We left the Travelodge around 4:45am, parked the car in Stansted Long Stay car park, and were surprised to see that everyone was early to the 5:30am meet up!

Mark had done a fantastic job of preparing everything for the trip. We were given our wristbands, badges and boarding passes, and headed over to security. After getting some close attention by the security staff ( I always set the bloody machines off…) we grabbed brekkie and headed over to our gate, where our flight was on time!

Some extreme Mario Kart DS later and we had arrived in Dusseldorf Wheeze airport! Mark, Mark and Marc (lol) sorted out the cars, and we ended up with 2 Golfs and a huge Jeep.

The drive to Movie Park was quite simple, and we got put in a field about a 15 minute walk from the park entrance. It wasn’t looking good and I was expecting long queues!

Movie Park itself was nice, but was nothing special. The themeing was general movie set style and the rides were nothing but average. The park was smart though and caters well for the families. The rides here were very difficult to photograph since most were hidden behind buildings, supports or other crap. Other thing to note is that we never got on High Fall, the drop tower, since it broke down around midday, and opened again late in the day with a huge queue. Also, the Rapids were down for the whole day.

On arrival we headed to Jimmy Neutron's Atomic Flyer, but with a 90 minute queue in the sun with no shade, it was quickly missed. We headed over to Bandit where we met up with Harvey. I actually enjoyed Bandit, unlike most of the group. It was rough and painfull, but nothing too bad and it was just fun to ride. I was sitting front left though, which according to most people seemed to be the best seats.

Over to my first SLC now, MP-Xpress. Apparently its one of the worst ones out there, but I can’t really comment since it’s my first one. The ride was very rough with some shunting effect along the train. I thought the layout of these rides have the potential to be quite good, but the roughness kills the ride.

Insane Frisbee of death next, which was the best ride in the park. It didn’t swing too high, but the spinning, OH MY GOD! Especially the last 15 seconds or so!

76360478ie3.jpg

Subway lunch next. Food is food right? Nothing special here…

Time to get the rest of the credits, so we headed over to the wild mouse coaster, Ghost Bomber. It’s a generic Mack Wild Mouse, so nothing special. Backyardigans: Mission to Mars next, but by far the biggest surprise was Jimmy Neutrons Coaster, which was lovely and smooth, with fantastic restraints and an all round good family ride. Shame that its just been plonked on some gravel with no themeing at all.

We stopped for some “Monster Slush” next, then queued for Shrek 4D, only to find that the next showing was in German, so we went over to the Bermuda boat ride thing, which is the most random and confusing ride you’ll ever come across. We had great fun riding it though, and I can’t wait to see the on-ride photo of the group.

Back to Shrek now for the only English showing of the day. I didn’t think it was anything special but was still fun to watch, and was nice to sit down for a bit, even if the seats tried to chuck you over to the other side of the cinema!

Time was running short as we wanted to head back to the Hotel and then over to the fair. We had time for 1 more ride and the Disco was chosen. Again, another first ride for me. The airtime hill actually had a surprising amount of airtime if you were in the right position when you went across it. The ride was quite rough in the places and often hurt at the bottom of the drops.

We headed out of the park now to find that we had to pay €5 for each car to park in a bloody field! The drive to the hotel went ok for Slayde’s car, since we didn’t get lost ( due to my superb navigating and working sat nav apparently ^_^ ) but apparently the other cars got lost!

Slayed’s car was first to arrive, and we tried to park in the underground car park, which was a big mistake! I don’t know who the hell designed that car park, but they deserver to be shot. There was a pillar right in the way where you wanted to turn the car around a 90* + corner. It took about 15 minutes to get the car around, and unfortunately resulted in a scratch on the side of the car.

Quick turn around in the rooms, then we left for Rheinkirmes Fair!

Whilst Movie Park wasn’t that great, I enjoyed experiencing a new park, and also getting to know people a lot more. Whilst I had seen everyone (except the two Harveys) before, I had never really spoken to half of you properly, and Movie Park was a good place to start that.

Ride Count:

Bandit
MP-Xpress
Side Kick
Ghost Chasers
The Backyardigans: Mission to Mars
Jimmy Neutrons Atomic Flyer
Bemuda Triangle Alien Encounter
Shrek 4D
Stormy Cruiser

thanks to thunder thighs Richard I had about 2 ft of space on the restraints on the wild mouse - at one point I left the car!

Hahahaha

<3

That's an experience I'll be OK not repeating either, lol!

I guess that my tip about the German Fair was a winner!!
Looks like you had a great time in Germany, I know I did 2 years ago.

Cheers for that Joey lol.

The waffle was very nice just hard to eat.

Who really cares about the translation maybe they changed the meaning of the word :)

Good photos? :? You should see all my Fair ones, about 90% of them came out blurred. :p

Anyway, next up after Movie Park is......

15th July – Rheinkirmes Fair

Carrying on from arriving at the hotel, we walked to the local train station, which just happens to be the 4th largest station in Germany. After 10 minutes of faffing and trying to work out which train we should be on, we jumped on the train, crossed the Rhien river and ended up at Rheinkirmes Fair!

I was expecting this fair to be something special, but not as huge as it actually was. The fair went on for miles! Everything here was so much bigger, better and well themed compared to a lot of UK Theme Parks, let alone a UK fair! The atmosphere was great, and music could be heard but not too loud that you couldn’t hold a conversation.

15sn5.jpg

Unfortunately, Eurostar, the huge inverted coaster wasn’t there, but instead we had a old school non-inverting Schwarzkopf. We slowly made our way to the ride, taking in all of the atmosphere and scale of things as we went.

Alpina Bahn was to be my first Schwarzkopf, and I was really looking forward to it. I think it was about €4.50 for a ride, and oh my god, what a ride it was! I would love to try out the even bigger Schwarzkopf’s like Olympia Looping and such now, it’s a real shame that rides like these aren’t being built anymore.

83637143wt8.jpg

Next up was Hollenblitz Der Coaster, an indoor, spinning dark coaster, which was unique and completely random! Fire effects, lights, lasers, music, spinning and even a water splash on a travelling coaster! One of the most insane rides I’ve ever been on.

65624663vk7.jpg

We stopped for some half a meter long Bratwurst in a baguette next, and most of the group picked up a pint of German beer. Not being much of a drinker myself, and alcohol and rides don’t mix too well for me, I gave it a miss, and got some pics instead.

31659230dx8.jpg

Wilde Maus coasters next, which is your standard Mack Wild Mouse coaster, except once again this coasters was much better than any you would find in a theme park. It was really smooth for a Wild Mouse, and actually gave quite a pleasant ride. Most of the group skipped this for some reason though.

Next up came the last credit of the day, Spinning Racer, a Maurer Sohne Spinning Coaster, which apparently has the same layout at Wirlwind at Camelot. I enjoyed the ride, but it was probably the worst of the coasters at the fair, but still miles ahead of anything the UK would have.

There was a huge afterburner type ride near too (apparently called XXL) and by huge I really mean it. It was taller than almost everything at the fair besides the drop tower, it really was insane! Due to the rath er rapid spinning, you didn’t really get a great airtime effect, but it was still a great rush.

22994772il7.jpg

The group split for a small while now. Tim and Anthony went to ride Airworf, top scan type thing but more weird, and some of the group went to ride Hollenblitz again. Having already spent like €40 that evening, I gave the rides a miss and hung around with the rest of the group outside a ride called Shake. Mark (as in stitch Mark) wanted to ride, but a 10 minute lasting ride cycle soon put him off! :p

It was approaching midnight, and since we were getting up at like 7am the next morning, we started to head back to the train station. Another ride on Alpina Bahn was in order though, and I wasn’t going to miss that, so I grabbed a front car ride for a near CF takeover ride.

Back to the local train station, which was rather packed due to the fair emptying out into it. Thanks to Stone Cold blocking and pissing off a group of Germans, we all managed to fit in the same train and headed back to the hotel for the night.

11gr4.jpg

The real difference here was the lack of chavs, which made the German fair so much better. It was packed, and I only saw about 2 security people in the whole evening, yet you felt safe. Live actors were running around rides, dropping spiders in peoples faces and so on, yet people laughed it off. In the UK, you could guarantee that had this been in the UK, this stuff wouldn’t be possible.

Ride Count
Alpina Bahn
Hollenblitz Der Coaster
Wilde Maus
Spinning Racer
XXL
Alpina Bahn

Great report Peter you done well at summing up the fair, I will never forget that night it was something else thats for sure. I remember your face coming off that coaster was great to see, they are still my favorite make of coasters just wish there were more of them.

Okay, I'm bored and in a train on the way to Leeds, so now I'll write some more stuff.

Arriving at the hotel and parking on Tuesday night had been very stressful to say the least, so everybody was rather looking forward to relaxing at the fair. Before I saw the fair, I knew it was going to be better than your typical English fair, but nothing could have prepared me for what it was actually like. Upon departing the tram (yay for German public transport :D), you could see the fair just over the road, and it looked magnificent, despite the lack of Euro Star.

I thought for sure that the group would get split up, as the place was immensely crowded - there was thousands of people there, but we all managed to stick together pretty well. We made our way to Alpina-Bahn, gawping in amazement at the size of the place, and the volume and quality of rides there was. We all got onto the coaster pretty quickly.

It was an awesome little Schwarzkopf - think Magnum Force with an airtime hill instead of the loops. The constant speed, intensity and incredible fun that the ride offered was unbelievable. It's no surprise we went back to do the coaster again at the end of the night.

After this we headed off to Hollenblitz, the fair's indoor spinning coaster, which Tim informs me was made in house by the fair folk. It looked amazing from the outside, if you saw it at a well themed park it wouldn't look out of place. And to think it gets transported around on the back of a truck! Mental.

Anyway, I really didn't know what to expect with this ride, so as I sat down and pulled my restraint down, I didn't know what I should be thinking. The ride went up the lift, spinning all the while, with crazy music playing, it being pitch black with lights flashing everywhere. At the top of the lift it dives outside of the building and through a sort of water splash type thing, which is the only bit of the ride you can see from the outside.

Once the ride dipped back inside, then followed the most insane, WTF-filled' coaster I've ever experienced. The spin in the car I was in was ridiculous, and it never seemed to stop. The 'theming' inside the building consisted of every lighting effect known to man, a bunch of lasers, some huge tree-frames filled with lights, and a few flamethrowers thrown in for good measure.

I f*cking loved it.

After Hollenblitz, everybody got an awesome 50cm long bratwurst. Stone Cold demonstrated what he wanted by hanging off the sign for it, and everybody then proceeded to request 'one of those!'
This was washed down with a tankard of German ale, as everybody got confused as to why some scantily clad German ladies kept speaking to the group. Stone Cold dismissed them humourously, and we were on our way to the next ride.

The next coaster some of the group went on was a travelling MS wild mouse - a clone of Rattlesnake at Chessington, but I sat this one out. At about this point, costar showed up, and a few us rode the MS spinning coaster. I didn't find it all that special, but it was better than Whirlwind.

We then walked around a bit more, just taking in the sights and sounds. There were a number of scary walk-through type rides, which were ridiculously over the top, and one even featured Michael Myers running around with a chainsaw. Again, these attractions really wouldn't seem out of place at a decent park.

A few of us then went to ride XXL, a f*cking huge KMG Afterburner. It was amazing. The height and speed and spin that thing gathered was unbelievable, it's probably the best flat ride I've ever been on. Some of the group spent about 10 minutes watching the cycle of a a weird Breakdance type ride that actually inverted. And while they were doing that, Joey, the Harveys and I went to ride Hollenblitz again. It was good, but not as good as the first time. Not much of a rerider methinks.

When we returned, the weird flat ride cycle was still going! After it finished, and a bit of faff later, we went over to ride Alpina-Bahn again in the pitch black Dusseldorf night, and once again it delivered. Its wildness and crazy speed was very reminiscent of The Ultimate albeit in traveling form.

This turned out to be the last ride of the night, and we then got the tram back to the hotel, which was made rather amusing by Stone Cold pissing off a German man as he stood in his way to allow the CF group to board the tram.

I think it was about midnight when we finally got to bed. It was a really long day (about 21 hours for me!), and one which the atmosphere and general awesomeness of the fair made up for the poorness of Movie Park.

Cheers for the heads-up, Loefet!

Well I might if I actually used facebook. :p

I'll put all the good ones up once i've been through them all and sorted the weeks worth of photos out.

Loving the pictures of the Fair Peter!!
