What's new

PortAventura | Ferrari Land | New Area

This is a tad off topic compared to the discussion, but it’s quite interesting having this thread bumped 7 years after the park opened and seeing what everyone had to say when it was being built.

Given some of the abysmally low expectations aired in this thread at the time, I actually think Red Force and Ferrari Land turned out pretty well, personally!

I got the chance to visit for myself in September. Yes, the park could be bigger for sure. There isn’t much there, and it profoundly lacks headliners other than Red Force. I also think that them opening it from 5pm-10pm, while a nice idea in theory, doesn’t work very well in execution as it means that everyone piles in once the main park closes and puts high demand on Red Force. I would say that I would also have liked it if Ferrari Land was included in the multi-day entry in the same manner as, say, Disney or Universal do their ticketing rather than you only being allowed the one day on a multi-day ticket.

With that being said, I think what’s there is actually very good. As with the main park, the theming in Ferrari Land is very nice, with some nice Italian streets and set pieces around. Red Force is also a fantastic coaster; I did find myself slightly preferring Stealth, as I don’t think the LSM launch has quite the same initial kick as the hydraulic launch does, but it’s still very big, very fast and has brilliant airtime; what’s not to like?

I also got to do the space shot side of Thrill Towers; this was fun enough, but not a particularly remarkable example of the drop tower genre.

So overall, then, I actually think that what’s there in Ferrari Land is very good! All it really needs is a bit more of it, because as things stand, it’s not very fleshed out at all for a stand-alone theme park, with Red Force being its only real headliner.

I admire your optimism Matt, but you are way off here. The park looks lovely but the ride offering is garbage, with the only worthwhile attraction being Red Force. As you say, opening the park at 5pm means everyone piles in there to ride RF so if you're not there when the gates open, it's a 90 minute wait on a busy day, even in the single rider queue as we found to our disgust a couple of weeks ago :(

They have surely made their money from this park and the Ferrari sponsorship by now. It's time to stop treating is as a second gate and include entry with the main park ticket, and open at midday to relieve the pressure on RF.

Sorry I’m replying to this so late, but I do agree with more of this than you might think.

I think the attraction lineup being too small is a valid criticism, because as you say, Red Force is the only real headliner there at present. I think at least one or two more are really needed to help ease some of the strain during busier periods. Red Force broke down and didn’t open for 1.5 hours when I was there, which made the queue build to well over an hour and meant I could only get one ride. Because I was a reasonable way into the pre-opening queue, I only waited 35 minutes or so, but the queue was advertised at well over an hour from the back and was still long when I got off.

My point was more that I think that what’s there is generally pretty good, which many in this thread didn’t seem to agree with at the time. My view is that there simply needs to be more of it. The current foundations are really nice and a solid start, but in its current form, the lack of attraction quantity makes it feel more like an area than a separately gated theme park.
