What's new

"Now Showing"

Catched up on some new DVDs today.

First up was Westworld. This film is an absolute classic, I can't believe it has taken so long to be released on DVD. If you don't know what it is about, its a futuristic theme park where robots and re-created worlds re-create an experience for guests like nowhere else. They can either go to medieval world, west world or roman world (self-explanatory there I hope) unfortunately for the peeps running the park the robots malf-function and start to turn on the guests. Its a great story and its been made really well, I love it.

Then I watched Spaceballs. I've never seen this film before but I had heard good things. It was a great piss-take on Star Wars and was very enjoyable. Mel Brooks is great, I need to start watching some more of his films.

American Psycho

Very interesting movie.. although something which took a while to develop. The beginning was.. boring.. but it picked up half way.

8/10

I have it because I picked it up from a garage sale, but it's really not that great of a film. I thought it was kinda overrated to be honest. Like, it was good, and on the better side of average, but doesn't deserve nearly as much of the praise that it gets.

Yay for some cheesy horror films tonight.

Do you even understand the film or do you just watch something, not understand it, think its dumb, and move on?

Starsky & Hutch (2004) was just on TV and I needed a break from architecture work. It's been awhile since I'd seen the movie, but it really is pretty hilarious. I need to get around to seeing the original sometime, but this one was pretty solid on its own. 8/10

Funniest movie ever.

The Others

I remember my friends talking about this years ago, when it came out, and I only just saw it the other day. At first I didn't think it'd be that good being only a 12, and well, a horror/thriller that's a 12 is quite rare.

But I was surprised! It was actually pretty scary in places! Nicole Kidman was pretty good too. The opening scene was pretty shocking an' all, and the way the whole film was just.. dark gave quite an eerie atmosphere. But the twist at the end was great, I didn't predict it at all.

8/10.

I understood it... And I happen to like a lot of films, I just wasn't a huge fan of American Psycho. I liked it, and if you can point out where I said I didn't like it at all, then.. I dunno, I'll give you something.. But, I don't remember ever saying I didn't like it.

Hmm..

All I was trying to say is that you, which seems to be a trend with all the films you ever rate, don't seem to like films with a bit of depth and thought to the plot. Quite a few films which are rated high by the majority, you seem to 'not like' or 'don't get' and never seem to 'understand the praise it gets.'

I want to know WHY you don't like it? Not the simple 'I didn't like it and I dunno why you would' response which we always get in this thread.

^ Again, did I say I didn't like it? I said I like it and that it is on the higher end of average, but I didn't find the storyline as intriguing as most people did. That's all.

And I know I'm not a huge fan of complicated movies (as can be seen by top ten or so movies), but some of them are pretty good, though American Psycho was just not AS good as I thought it was going to be.

Ice Age 2:
Sat down and watched this with my little sister. It's ok. Drags on a bit and isn't as good as the first one.

You need to read the book, its soooo much better than the film! But the film is awesome :D.

Don't just stare at it, eat it!

I'll stick to my Shopaholic books for now, and the Shopaholic movie that is coming out soon! <3

Just Saw Eagle Eye. 6/10.

Reminds me too much of another movie.

I'd say which one, but that would give away the entire ending of the movie.

EDIT: Accidentally posted this in the wrong topic. :(

Haha this is awesome. :p

Thursday night I watched The lost boys on DVD. It was the first time I've seen it, wanted to for a couple of years. For peeps who don't know about the film its not about the kids in Peter Pan, its about vampires :D. I thought it was ok, took ages to get into the actual story though.

Last night I watched Nightmare before Christmas on blu-ray. I think its a great film with some awesome songs (This is halloween and Whats this?). The blu-ray disc also has the best special features too, has two shorts made by Burton (Vincent and Frankenweenie (making feature length film atm)), a great making of featurette and a tour of when they themed Haunted mansion at Disneyland to Nightmare before Christmas.

Today I went to see City of Ember. Its an ok film, good setup for a film storyline but it just doesn't excite, it fails at any point where it could succeed. Its another film from the peeps at Walden media (Nim's Island, LOTR), I keep getting bitterly disappointed by this company and I really don't know why I keep paying to watch their films. Meh.

Sounds like you just go the cinema for the sake of any new film coming out. Don't you look at the ratings/reviews first?

I read Total Film magazine and loads of websites quite regularly. I can usually tell by a trailer on whether a film is good or bad. I knew this film would be meh but I liked the concept of the film. I also tend to find myself at cinemas quite a bit just cause I feel like seeing something :p.

Run Fanboy Run

Well.. I loved Simon Pegg in Shaun of the Dead and Hott Fuzz.. so I figured this would be on par. It was.. ok.. not as laugh at loud as HF was, but the runner terms I found nice.. because there are about 3 feauture films about running.. haha.

10,000 BC

Finally got around to watching this movie. I took it for what it was, and tried to not judge against other films, and it was actually a decent film. I didn't have any huge problems. Historical Accuracy isn't a big deal when we are talking into the BC's.. lol
