Are they just B-Sides? Cause in reality almost any band can put out 36 B-Sides.
No, its all new, experiemental instrumental stuff, its not necessarily old stuff that's been bodged together to make a new album. Yeah, it might've been lying around for a while, unused, but the whole album's a different direction for NIN, so its not just leftovers. In all fairness, its not uncommon for a band to put old, previously unreleased tracks onto new albums either.
For a band to put out an album of 36 true B-sides, they'd have had to had a lot of previous singles. On average, a normal single has 1 or 2 B-sides, which means to release an album of B-sides, a band would need to have released at least 18 singles (give or take a few), and that's quite a lot, seeing as you usually get 4 singles approximately off an album. I wouldn't say that's 'almost any band'. But, if you just mean old unreleased material, rather than tracks that have actually been accompanying tracks to released singles, the true meaning of a B-side, then yeah, any band could do that, but it goes back to my previous point that its not uncommon anyway, and not a reason to be a put-down by any means.
Moving on...
After discovering Foals a few months back, I finally got round to properly listening to some of their stuff today, in preparation for their debut album being released next week. Basically, if you like edgy indie music like Bloc Party, and danicer stuff like Sunshine Underground or The Rapture etc, then you'll like Foals. Its funky, its got energy, its a bit different to all the new-rave tripe thats being doled out non-stop at the moment, and, of course, its awesome. I've not heard that much so far, but there's not that much out there to listen to, until the album comes out next week. Have a listen to either 'Balloons' or 'Cassius' for a good starting point, I can't get enough at the moment.
