Missed coasters

A few times i've been to a park but missed out on some of the major attractions for one reason or another, i'm sure many other people have too.

Firstly, I knew it wasn't open before I went, but visiting Kings Island and not being able to ride SOB was awful, I first started planning to visit the park before the ride closed, it was one of the main reasons I chose the midwest for my first trip to the US. Even though it has a really bad rep I still wish i'd had the chance to ride it. On the brightside, I first started looking at Holiday World to make up for missing out on a woodie, so i'd possibly never have ridden Voyage if SOB was open.

Another example was visiting Phantasialand earlier this year, after great days out at Toverland and Heide park me and my partner stayed over in Cologne. Unfortunatly due to pulling a muscle in her neck my partner was in agony all the following day, we decided to go ahead and visit Phantasialand whilst we were there hoping that the pain would subside as she hasn't had trouble with her neck before. After riding Black Mamba and Colorado Minetrain it was clear that the pain wasn't going away so we left the park after a few hours to head to Bruges for the last night of the trip. It couldn't be avoided but it's a shame we didn't get a change to ride Winja's and a few of the other rides there.

Other than that, it's just been Stealth at TP and Jubilee Oddyssey and various other rides not operating on the day of my visit.

Has anyone else had a similar experience where you've still enjoyed your trip or day at the park overall but missed out on one of the things you wanted to do?

I know what you mean, but all the reason you should take a trip back!

It happens at Thorpe Park all the time, the queues are far too big to get on everything, but hopefully when The Swarm is finished it may control the queue-havoc on the other attractions a bit more...

I missed the BatFlyer at Plopsaland because the queue was massive all day and it looked ****. If I ever go back I'll try to get it, but that day I just wasn't in the mood to wait for something that crappy.

That's the first one that springs to mind, there must be others out there! :p

I missed 3 big ones in the last 3 years. Iron Dragon was one I really should not have missed along with Anaconda at Kings Dominion. I also hated missing Cyclone at Six Flags New England, but the ride continued to break down, and I had more coasters to hit. I'll try to get back next year, especially since another credit is on its way to the park.

I miss usually what I don't want to wait for/aren't willing to whore myself to ride. Notable exceptions: Terminator: Salvation (being built) and Deja Vu (closed) at SFMM. Most of the parks I've been to I haven't had to wait because I'll be back to the park or everything worthwhile was open. Been lucky most of the time.

My lone credit I massively desire is Jr. Gemini at CP.. as I've been on everything else 1,000 times but haven't been on lonely #18. But, I do have muh baby girl so when she's old enough.. boom!

^You would.

I guess most of Kings Island when I went in 09, because it was just a giant cluster ****. The park was packed and my dad and I only got on about 5 rides all day. I wanted the SOB credit so badly, but it closed 2 weeks before we went, and I really wish we would have done a day and a half there instead.

Being spited at SFoT was pretty bad too, granted media day was awesome getting to whore NTG, but I wish I could've gotten all the other creds. Stupid school. Oh well, hopefully I can go back this summer.

Atlantis Adventure.

Been to Lotte World TWICE, and was spited both trips. The damn thing was even TESTING the whole time I was there the first time.

I deliberately miss out and spinning wild mouse coasters. They are the most vile contraptions on earth :p

I was spited by the giant boomerang at one of the Six Flags parks in (it was a green one, think it was the one at Great America) and Son of Beast at KI.

I didn't lose any sleep over it though.

I missed Stunt Fall a Parque Warner this year as it was shut for my entire trip. I also have a Big Dipper shapped hole in my count, it was being retracked when I was there.

Off the top of my head, the only real coaster I've missed that isn't some kiddie coaster clone of boring and apples is the Bat flyer at LVW. Now I don't even have another chance to ge it :c.

There is Vampire at chessie as well but I was, like... Three years old... So yeah, even if I wanted to go on then I would be too small.

Cba to think any more

Spited by Intamin - both Storm Runner and Kingda Ka were down when I was in the States. Though one is just a glorified Rita, the other a glorified Stealth, I'm sure I missed bugger all ;) :p

Well, both are dreadful, so even if SR and KK are 30 times better, they're still not good :p

I have one Intamin I like, and it wasn't a launch, so I can't see either being anything worth while ;)

I missed out on "absolutely insane" at fantasy island - and that's closed now. :(

also - missed Dudley do right at IOA (closed for refurb) and phantom manor at DLP.

the eurolive group almost missed on collossos at heide park too!

Oh - and I went to monte igueldo and virtually everything was closed - at least we got the coaster!!

Raven at Holiday World spited me hardcore. It was when they'd just sold off Voyage's trains awaiting the new ones, and discovered the new ones weren't working... So they were using Raven's.

I also missed Son of Beast. Does that even count?

I've been really lucky for the most part.

Love this topic =]

Coaster counting is the main place my goon side comes out, I love 'collecting' coasters and get genuinely devastated if something isn't running.

The most recent of these was Master Thai at Mirabilandia. It was testing and EVERYTHING </3

Others that come to mind are one side of Rolling Thunder, Pteranodon Flyers (bastard thing, I've tried so hard!) and the Boomerang at Walibi World (it was SBNO).

Had a few near misses as well. The notorious Colossos incident at the Denmany EuroLive in 2009. We were due to have ERT on the amazing thing, only to get to the park to be told it was down (=[). However, last minute a piece they needed was delivered and put into place and the ride was up and running. It was SUCH a good feeling.

Another time was at Phantasialand this year. After much faffing with airports and cars and things, we FINALLY got to the park only to find it absolutely heaving! The queues were gross, so the pressure was on to get every cred done. The final cred we needed was one of the Winjas, we sprinted over there only to find a sign saying closed and a park attendant stood at the entrance (=[). However, we walked right past him and onto the ride! Yaaaay!

I quite like the excitement/challenge of trying to get all your creds done in the time you're there =].

Oh damn, Pteranodon Flyers! Tried every day I went there, went up to it first thing when it was dead even to try and explain to the staff that the rule is in place BECAUSE it has bad throughput, so if there is NO QUEUE it DOESN'T MATTER. But no luck.

Winjas are a pain to get, what with that VILE queue. I remember having a stress to get both as well.

I have Pteradon Flyers <3 We sashayed up at like, 12, and still got on it no queue and no problem. Even my Dad has it spite <3

I've been really quite lucky considering. What has spited me... Hmmm... The Togo at Kings Dominion... Oh well! The vulgar Woodie at Movie Park Germany. See previous sentiment. And the Looping Toboggan at Fisherman's Warf, but, after doing the one a week earlier, yeah, thank ****!

Now that is heart breaking! I would go insane if that happened to me! Its making me cry just thinking about it!

So far, I've been relatively lucky, though I haven't really been to that many parks outside the UK. I wouldn't be too bothered about being spited at a large park, such as Walibi World, Phantasialand etc, as chances are I would go back.

Its the smaller parks that would bother me, as chances are I would never visit them again :(
