Just isn't your week Colossus... that's a hell of a way for your Bucs to lose.

I know, that was completely guttering, I`m not to annoyed though, after being 35-21 down with 5 minutes left, the fact that we got ourselves into a situation too lose like that in the first place shows resiliency.
Plus Josh looked really good today for the first time in a long time. We had to lose today anyway as we were in our orange throwback uniforms. ;)

I managed to make a few small changes to try and make a game of it this week, but you can imagine my annoyance at watching Drew Brees get 40 points against my team knowing hes on my bench.
Plus Mo-Jo went out injured on the first play, I`m somehow still in it, but I`ll be incredibly shocked if I pull out the unthinkable,

I'm also QUITE glad I decided not to play the Raven defense.. who I KNEW would fall apart after Ray Lewis was gone. BOOM!

They clearly failed at Ball so hard University...

Also, you need 14 points from your kicker tomorrow Marcus. You could win but it looks unlikely.

^ Watch out, it's Jason Hanson though. He makes 50+ yarders look routine and you know the Lions are going to have several stalled drives. They just haven't seemed to click on offense like they did last year.

On another note, I'm really happy that my boy CJ2K finally reached the end zone & reeled off some big runs today. The Titans' running game has been a mess for about a whole calendar year now for a host of reasons, but it looks like they are starting to get their act together. All of a sudden, I don't feel like I root for the worst team in the NFL anymore!

^ No that's my job as a Buccaneers fan, well at least it was last year.

Tennessee have had two real good wins actually in the last couple of weeks, the comeback against Pittsburgh and the incredible win yesterday against Buffalo showed excellent comeback-ability.
What I want to know Madhjsp, as a Titans fan, what do you think of Jake Locker? Is he the man in Tennessee? He didn't look at all confident before he got injured, now hes out and Matt Slapheadelback has come in and done a fairly decent job, I know he`s a vet so not your long term solution, but I question whether Locker is also, I know its only his second year, but I still question him.
Yeah I bet you where happy to finally get some production from Chris Johnson as where many many fantasy owners lol.

tomahawkKSU, What has actually happened to the Chiefs? Everybody, including myself thought they would have at least a half decent year, 8-8 at worst. What happened? Surely you need to be in the market for a new QB come April?

Yeah picking up these last two wins has been huge. They haven't been pretty, but the ugliest win is better than the prettiest loss. I have no delusions about the Titans being a playoff team (the defense is just too awful for that to happen), but if the running game can continue to deliver consistent production and Jake Locker comes back healthy and plays well, we could potentially end up with anywhere from 7-9 wins.

And on that note, I am 100% behind Jake as our long-term starting QB, and it would seem, based on my interactions with other fans in real life and online, that the vast majority of Titans fans would agree. I don't think confidence was his problem before he got hurt... he has no qualms about throwing deep and using his speed to scramble when necessary. His main mistakes were mental ones, and usually the kind of ones that get straightened out with playing time and experience. Case in point, on the play against the Texans in which he got hurt, it was because he failed to identify the blitzing corner to his right and either change his protection or throw the hot route to the tight end Jared Cook. Instead, he looked only to the left side of the field and never saw the hit coming. It ended up being a very costly mistake, but hopefully he's learned from it and will come out of it a smarter player.

We've won games with Hasselbeck because he generally makes good decisions and can comfortably command all aspects of the offense. This is exactly what you want out of a player with his experience. However, his physical abilities are beginning to noticeably decline, and it places some limitations on our offense. He simply doesn't have the arm strength to throw the deep ball accurately anymore, and his accuracy on medium throws is inconsistent. In the Bills game, he made a brilliant and gutsy back-of-the-endzone throw to Nate Washington on 4th and 9 that won us the game, but just a couple plays before that, he nearly threw a game-ending interception right into the chest of Buffalo safety George Wilson, who graciously dropped it and allowed the game to continue. He's a guy who we can win with when other elements of the team fall into place, but I don't trust him to go out and win the game for us if the team is otherwise struggling. See the Minnesota game for proof.

This brings us back to Jake. His speed and scrambling ability can help mask some of the deficiencies of the offensive line in pass protection (although that unit has looked demonstrably better in recent weeks), and has several times turned broken plays into big gains. His strength and relative accuracy on deep throws and on rollouts opens up the full playbook, as these are plays that Hasselbeck doesn't have the tools to execute well. We have a lot of speed in our receiving corps, so having a QB who can capitalize on that speed to stretch the field vertically is going to be important if we want to maintain an effective running game going forward.

Jake isn't without his flaws. He's prone to mental errors at times, but I'm willing to chalk this up to inexperience. It's certainly not because he lacks the work ethic to study and correct his play.. in that aspect, he is very much the anti-Vince Young, and this is one reason why so many Titans fans have fallen in love with him so quickly. He will also miss open receivers at times. I don't think he'll ever be one of the most accurate starting QB's in the league a la Brees or Rodgers, but we can live with that. He brings a lot of other things to the table that make him an exciting player to watch and someone who can maximize the potential of our offense as constructed. Obviously this team is a long ways away from becoming a super bowl contending team, but if you asked me if I thought Jake was a guy who we could someday win the big game with, I'd say yes, definitely.

TL;DR - Hasselbeck's done a commendable job filling in, but I can't wait for Jake to get back on the field. He brings more to the table, and most of the issues that he does have are ones that should get ironed out with playing time. He's our QB of the future.

Your right on that front as I know all too well after yesterday.

You know what,I completely forgot about Mr Dream Team Vince Young, and now that you mention him, I can see why Locker has been taken too by the Titans faithful so quickly.
Lets just say for one second that Locker and Young posses the same skill set, I know they don`t but lets just say they do for one second, what separates those to players, character, Vince Young is has some of the worst character issues I have seen in any player little own a first round, future of the franchise QB, constant rows with Jeff Fisher and the coaching staff, storming off the field after a loss claiming he`d never play for the Titans again, I remember too that on one occasion he had a row with somebody on a plane? Can`t quite remember. All sorts of problems off the field, which overshadowed any skill he had on it.
Now he`s out of a job just like JaMurcus Russell, in a ton of debt and he has only himself to blame.
Did you see Cam Newton`s interview last night after their loss to the Cowboys? If not I would watch it, very interesting, I would see him going the same way at some point, not to the extent of Young, but he looked incredibly confused in the interview and was ranting on about suggestion boxes, I don`t think he will start going off on one at coach staff etc, but his head is definitely not in the game right now.
Regardless of that, I would have hated it if he was the QB of the Buccaneers, the Titans are not the Jets or the Cowboys, you don`t want off the field player issues affecting the harmony in the locker room, you don`t want news paper headlines for all the wrong reasons, it does the team not good and to be quite frank it`s embarrassing to see as a fan.
I would imagine you where pleased as punch when the Titans released him, even if you lose a QB who you have invested a lot of money into, at least you have that virus like player out of the locker room.

Anyway back to Jake Locker, don`t get me wrong he looks real good at times, hes one of those QB`s that I haven't really seen much off, so I ask you as a Titans fan what you guys who have seen him think, not because I think hes no good. I think the run game would help his development a lot though, I know you need a balanced offense, and you need one to work for the other to work, but if Chris Johnson can once again make defenses respect the run game then, there could be more deep for Locker, if you have safety's guarding the run more often you can get much more 1 n 1 coverage down the field.
The weapons are there also, Kenny Britt (providing hes not suspended) Jared Cook and Nate Washington are all threats.

You say about decision making and that reminds me very much of Josh Freeman, some days he`ll be on fire, he has a cannon of an arm also, but sometimes he`ll play like an absolute dog and throw bad interceptions just generally making poor decisions, he played well yesterday 430 yards and 3 TD`s and 0 picks, but the only problem I had was on that 4th and goal (don`t know if you say it?) where he rolled out to the right and just sort of fell over without seemingly making any attempt to get the ball in the endzone.
But hes getting better, last year under Raheem Morris he really took a step backwards. That may have been down to the play calling also I don`t know? But this year he looks more like a leader, Vincent Jackson helps, but the work in the off-season has been beneficial.
Moral of that is, as you say decision making is something that can be ironed out and improved with time.
Did Locker go out injured last year also? Or am I deluded? :)

The Chiefs have so many problems, and they are being exposed quickly. I knew this season wasn't going to be the 10-6, 11-5 that some were projecting. Yes, Charles, Moeaki, and Berry were all coming back after blown out ACL's, but as we have seen, Berry has lost a step, he seems tentative, Moeaki doesn't get many touches, and well Charles leads the league in rushing, but they are working him so hard that if it keeps at this rate, he will break down by the end of the season.

The main problem is management, and that starts withthe owner, which is near blasphemy as a Chief fan to say. Clark Hunt is an out of town owner, which is never good. He lives in Dallas and lets Scott Pioli rule with an iron fist. Pioli is so set in his ways he refuses to change. Former head coach Todd Haley claimed he wire tapped his office, his car, and his phone. Paranoia? Probably, but Haley seems to be working in Pittsburgh, which again proves he is a better offensive coordinator than a coach. Pioli also refused to resign Brandon Carr, quite possibly the best number 2 CB in the NFL. He did this solely because Flowers took a team friendly deal, and refused to pay the #2 CB more than his #1. So he goes and grabs Stanford Routt who is constantly getting burnt.

So Romeo Crennel steps in last year to replace Haley in the last quarter of the season and gets the marquee win against Green Bay. Despite his horrible record in Cleveland, he gets the interim title removed, which is something nobody in KC wanted. Crennel is a defensive guru, but he can't coach a team at all. He is awful. Because Pioli didn't want to lose some of his iron grip on the team (and Hunt didn't want to open his wallet) they went with Crennel. Coaching wise, that is the problem. With Jeff Fisher, Gruden, Cowher, and a slew of other great coaches available, they balked and dropped the ball.

Personnel is a huge problem as well. Cassel was given the keys to the franchise and like a 16 year old girl with a cell phone, has crashed everywhere, leaving just shards of what was left of the franchise. Cassel led the 18-1 Patriots to a 10-6 season. The signs were there, and I was probably one of very few Chief fans who wasn't happy about acquiring him. The Chiefs have the worst QB situation in the NFL, and they haven't drafted a QB in the first round since 1983. Yes, it will be 30 years this next draft since their last first round drafted QB. That is inexcusable. They let Orton walk, who probably would've been able to salvage the season, and instead got one of the worst QBs in the game, Brady Quinn.

Pioli acts like he is the reason for the Pats success, which he clearly isn't. So much has been found out about him and that Haley was actually the reason for Cassel doing well, but Pioli claimed it was Charlie Weiss. Pioli manipulates the media, refusing to interview with certain reporters, which has ultimately led to several of them being dismissed. Fans are over his antics and are demanding change. The last playoff victory was 20 years ago, despite have several terrific teams. Kansas City is the most loyal sports city in the country, if you need an example why, look at the Royals and Chiefs. Yet, they are finally losing patience, and on November 16 I believe, there will be a fan black out at the stadium to state how upset they are with the team. They have already flown a plane with a banner over the stadium that said "Fire Pioli-Bench Cassel" a few weeks ago. The "Save Our Chiefs" movement has over 100k followers on Twitter and Facebook combined.

One more major issue is drafting. It is pathetic. Dontari Poe, Tyson Jackson, Eric Berry, and Jon Baldwin were all drafted by Pioli. Baldwin is invisible, Tyson Jackson is a part of the worst draft class in modern NFL history it seems, Eric Berry still isn't healthy, or has lost a step, and the verdict on Poe is still out, but he wasn't a necessary pick. The only good player that Pioli has drafted is Justin Houston, who should have been a first rounder, yet he got busted for weed so people had character concerns, which led to him being a third rounder. The drafts have been horrible, and they always reach.

I have been a Chief fan since I was 3. Nobody else in my family is, and this year is the first year I have had to question my loyalty. Hell, I am going to name my first son Derrick Thomas after the great linebacker! Doesn't get much more dedicated than that, but this team, the way it is run now, is a joke. Matt Millen would be an upgrade at GM.

So until the Chiefs get a real QB, head coach, and GM, they won't go anywhere. The 10-6 season was a fluke. Arrowhead used to be the most difficult place to play in the NFL before Herm Edwards stepped in. They never lost there in December, but now it is a common theme.

So TL;DR horrible drafting, QB, front office, and player management.

Neither have the pirates. So I will continue to bitch about the pirates collapsing after the all star break. ;)

Ah, the joys of being a football fan. No matter who you root for, be it the Titans, Bucs, Bills, Browns, Chiefs, or even the super bowl champion Giants, there are no end to the number of reasons you can find to hate your team!

Colossus, you pretty much nailed it with your assessment of Vince Young and how Jake represents the player he could never have been. And you are also right that we will need a productive running game for Jake to be successful.. that's true for almost any first-time starting QB (FYI, Jake actually wasn't hurt last year. The coaching staff thought it'd be best for his development to sit for the year and learn from Hasselbeck, rather than thrust him into the starting role right away. Hass has been a very helpful mentor to him so I think that was probably the right decision). I think as Jake improves, he will help that running game by being able to threaten defenses with the deep ball, so that they cannot just stack 8 men in the box to shut CJ down. The two elements of the offense need to feed off each other to be successful, and I believe that as long as the offensive line does their job (which unfortunately has been an iffy proposition so far this year), we have the talent in place at the other positions to do some damage. So there is much room for optimism as a Titans fan in that regard. Now, the defense, on the other hand... Well, let's just say it's in need of a major overhaul in both personnel and coaching. Do you know that we are currently on pace to give up the most points of any NFL team in history over a 16-game season? If there are not some major changes on that side of the ball this offseason, I'm going to be pretty frustrated. Seriously, after we get a new DC (and I don't care who we get.. hell, why not take a chance on a young, promising college coach?), I'd be happy to see the front office spend their first 5 draft picks on defensive players. I know that's not likely, but I can dream, right?

Freeman's an interesting case. He has all of the talent to be a really, really good QB, but you're right, it just seems that he's still not putting it all together mentally every game. He's now in his 4th year as the full-time starter, so do you worry about him, or do you think that with the improved coaching staff, he'll finally start to come into his own?

tomahawKSU said:
Actually, the Browns have been good, they just changed their name to the Ravens.

Zing!

Freeman is awful. I suffered through his time at K-State. He is actually a total doucher too. Or was 4 years ago.

Yeah I never thought you would go 10 - 6 again, but I thought you could be 8 - 8, I understand teams can start rough, but after that tremendous comeback overtime win in the Superdome, I thought you guys would get your act together being only 1 - 2, bt three losses later and it don`t look good, am I right in thinking that Cassel was simply benched against the Bucs or ws he injured? Either way Brady Quinn is not the answer in any situation.
I have been watching Charles closely as I have him in my UK fantasy league and I have to say as much as his productivity is good, he seems to have some ball security issues, he fumbled the rock about 3 times against the Chargers, which was frustrating for a fantasy owner, I should imagine more so as a fan. I can`t knock him though because I really didn't think he would come back this well off the ACL, its been quite remarkable actually. Its a shame that Eric Berry has lost a step as before his injury he looked really good, a ray of shining light in a dark forest of poor draft picks.

So Scott Pioli, now I have heard nothing but bad things about him, but I didn't realize it was this bad, tapping into Todd Haley`s phone? That`s ridiculous, but as you say that could be myth, Todd Haley`s an interesting character also, with his sweaty win hat and beard, I never understood him as a HC, same as Romeo Crennel, although if you think about it, hes obviously cheap and I would bet my bottom dollar that he is Pioli`s bi**h, Crennel seems the sort of "yes Sir" kind of guy, very much in the same way that Jason Garrett probably spends most Monday mornings cleaning Grandpa Jerry`s shoes.
Perhaps that`s Pioli`s problem, perhaps he thinks hes Jerry Jones or Al Davies? Even if he don`t, he can`t act like he is, regardless of what you say about Al and Jerry, you have to atleast respect them, they both won 3 Superbowls and invested unimaginable amounts of time and money into those organisations allowing them to get away with "Ruling with an iron fist" way of management, plus they were both owners as well as GM`s.
Regardless I didn't realize things were this bad, fling banners over Arrowhead and boycotting games (I`ll keep an eye out for that match) is really interesting for a team who`s fanbase is historically fiercely loyal.
I guess now that he`s not got Todd Haley around anymore to throw under the bus (although perhaps hes trying to do that now with Cassel?) he`s finally being exposed.

30 years without drafting a QB in the first round? That`s pretty astounding actually, I to thought Kyle Orton could have been a half decent fix, but he was allowed to head to Dallas, where we will probably never hear from him again.
Dontari Poe hasn't been around long enough to really be judged whether he will be a draft bust or not, but I will say I was surprised he went that high in the draft.

By the sounds of it Pioli is the route of the problem, if he was out of the picture life might not be so hard for Crennel and Cassel, don`t get me wrong, they are not the recipe for success, but I don`t think life would be as difficult?

As for Freeman, hes a real interesting case, I remember being there at his Bucs debut at the NFL IS game back in 2008, he came on in the 4th qtr for Josh Johnson (aka, the worst QB to every put on a Bucs jersey) in the blowout by the Patriots. Next week he leads us to our first win of the season in his starting debut against the Packers, so good times.
Fast forward a bit and to the 2010 season where we finish 10 - 6, a deserved record aswel, many 4 qtr, Ben Roethlisberger style comebacks and again things looked promising.
But then we have last season, now again I need to say that from start to finish I was never a Raheem Morris guy, two reasons, firstly I never really got over the dismissal of Jon Gruden, simply the best coach we`ve ever had bar perhaps Tony Dungy.
Also I didnt agree with his methods of coaching, he made far to many questionable calls and I didn't like how he was too buddy buddy like with the players, this was definitely our downfall last year, he basically just let players do what they wanted when they wanted with no repercussions, so decent players like Aqib Talib and Mike Williams got in trouble with the law for various reasons and the whole team just fell to pieces on and off the field.
Freeman`s case weren't helped either by the defense and therefore lack off, we got behind big quickly too many times, resulting in the loss of running game with Blount, therefore forcing Freeman to just spend 3 qtrs a game airing it out, some of it was his fault though I remember playing against the Panthers last year at Bank of America, and our D held Cam down nicely, yet Josh threw 5, yes 5 redzone int`s, that is inexcusable. So yeah some of time he is to blame and some hes not.

Forwarding to the present and things look better for Josh, new coach who is trying and so far doing well in keeping the players in order, the O line is vastly improved with the addition of Carl Nicks although G Davin Joseph is done for the year, also Vincent Jackson is a huge down field threat, even if Josh ain`t getting him the ball he atleast draws double coverage, opening up Mike Williams more often, Also Doug Martin has adapted well to not playing on a stupid blue field and looks like a respectable runner, sort of like Cadillac Williams.
Mainly the defense looks a little better certainly not fixed, there`s still holes there, but they are coping better.
What has impressed me the most though is Freeman`s off season transformation, he spent the time working out, spending more time with the playbook and I think really started to take himself a bit more seriously, he got rid of his silly Afro and looks much more hench. He`s basically gone from a boy to a man in the last 8 months.

He`s a forth year starter now, so he`s hasn`t really got any excuses now, he has the arm, and he certainly has the weaponry around him, if he can keep his poise and keep working on his intangibles he will be fine.
We won`t be a play-off team for many years, again we need the defense back and that will take time and the problem we have is our division with the Falcons, Saints and Cam-olina, its tough to get out off.
But in conclusion Freeman can defiantly keep us respectable, regardless of defense, he has no perfect time like the present to prove that he can.

TL;DR, Pioli is definitely the main problem in KC and needs to be axed as soon as possible for the team to move in the right direction.
I`m not overly worried by Freeman as its not always been his fault, but its definitely time for him to prove himself a little.

V-Jax is a definite improvement and has already appeared to help Freeman a lot. I bet you loved the play this week where he made a 95-yard catch and somehow failed to score, didn't you? :p

Youngster Joey said:
Actually I'm a steekers fan first, but they have an injury prone O-line :(

Ah yes, I forgot you were. That paper mache O-line was on display front and center last week against the Titans.

Oh words don`t describe how annoying that was, so the defensive player made a play fair enough, no problem it`s first and goal from the 1, three awful runs and a confused 4th down Freeman later and the Saints have the ball back, not a happy Buccaneer lol

Yeah the Steelers O-line is such a mess, I was actually surprised how well the Steelers played last night actually, considering they have the paper mache O-line and 9th string RB in the game performing well, the only player that looked suspect was actually Mike Wallace, lots of dropped passes that is uncharacteristic of him.
Player of the game was clearly Ike Taylor, he completely shut down AJ Green, and without him there`s no deep threat with Andy Dalton, the D proved they can get it done without Troy.
