Europa Park |"Wodan"| GCI Wood

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

Something about this particular wooden roller coaster is just shaping to look really fantastic. I know its not as long as most GCI's are and doesnt do as much, but I still think its a good enough amount. Also, Europa Park seem to have just already created this amazing new ride. Just my feeling. Really think its going to be an overall spectacular ride.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

Is there seriously anybody not in love with that drop?

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

SO excited to see good wood being built that's not on the other end of the earth <3

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

Shame that apart from the drop and a few other moments it looks like the weakest GCI for a while <//3

And URGH, look at how much it's already ruining the look of Atlantica. Still, WHY?

I know what you mean, but I think the whole area will look better once it's tidied up after construction. Hopefully.

I get the impression that this will be a really short but really intense ride (or as I call them, "bitchslap coasters"), and with a bit of luck will be worth it just for that!

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

^ Yeah I agree.
Testing will be an important point in seeing how the ride runs, and I think there will be plenty of twists, hills and turns. Sure, its not the longest GCI out, but its definetly still looking kick-ass.

And Im actually really liking the way it goes under and over atlantica and whatnot, I think on the ride it will be really awesome.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

I agree that the first drop looks absolutely epic but I'm beginning to have my doubts on the overall look of this. I used to love the fact it'd be interacting with those two coasters (Atlantica and Blue Fire) but the more I look at it and think about how it'll look the more I feel like it'll ruin the area. It might not, it might improve the other two by adding a fantastic headchopper moment. So yeah, feeling a bit sceptical about how awesome this will be now.

Still, it's fantastic to see a big European park build a new wooden coaster, lets hope other parks follow their lead.

Compared to if the drop wasn't Underground? ;)

Do you mean the Head-Chopper effect of it? I hope you do.

GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

I think it will add to the drop in the same way Oblivian does compared to Sheikra.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

^^I think he just means the forces you will feel at the bottom of the drop...

I seriously don't to be honest, that's the way I thought he was aiming his point, and therefore why I replied.

Your choices are the exact same choices I would have said to back my side of the argument up with:

In terms of Sheikra, whilst the actual layout may be 'better' than Oblivion, Oblivion usually wins most votes for the better coaster due to the tension of waiting looking down at the giant hole in the ground, in comparison to just a vertical drop that you can see levelling out. Whereas this, you've actually got an impeded view of the tunnel, the supporting system on the woody actually kind of "blocks" your view of the tunnel until you're actually about to head on into it, so, therefore, I really don't think it will feel like Oblivion's at all, I think it would feel more like any other tunnel on a wooden coaster.

Oblivion specifically has the pause over the drop to emphasise the tension, which is a very unusual feature - hardly anything out there feels like it! And no woodie is going to do that obviously.

But Marc was contrasting Oblivion to Sheikra, and I think he does have a point. Even if the tunnel is partially obscured, dropping into a tunnel at all should increase the thrill compared to the same drop without the tunnel, both by the "squeezing into a small hole" effect, and the psychological impact of having the track obscured.

And the fact it's at the bottom of a turning drop should heighten the impact, compared to a tunnel elsewhere on the circuit, given that the drop is the high thrill/scare point.

Plus, if a rider doesn't know the tunnel is there beforehand, it will probably scare the crap out of them when they spot it :p.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

^They're currently at a conference event, IAAPA. They've been showing the under-train lighting for at least a year. It was linked to when some CFs were at an event sometime ago..

Although it could be on the Europa Park woodie, I don't think that the posts are connected. Having said that the blue glow could be good for the magic and myth theme.

As for the model, I don't think it is Europa PArk. Blue Fire is a different blue and shape to that and what's the ride with red track and white supports? Nothing like that at Europa. Plus the Europa Park FB posted a picture of the model in their own museum, although there could be two or more I guess.
