Busch Gardens Williamsburg |"Verbolten"| Multi-Launch Zierer

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

There have already been lots of progress posts including one of the drop section if that's what you mean.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

No, I've seen the drop section. I was just wondering about the actual bridge before that epic drop into the Rhine.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

When the park reopens for the Winter event, you'll get more pictures, I'm sure.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

TPR have footage of the actual drop mechanism for those who don't mind slight spoilers...

EDIT - WAS meant to skip straight to it... Oh wells, from 10m6s mark for Zierer...

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

It's actually really good to see it working in "real life" rather than just an animation.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

^Not only that but what I am most impressed with is the speed at which it can transition from horizontal movement to the vertical drop, looks fantastic!

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

It will defiantly surprise some riders, which will make for some good laughs

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

Kyle just showed me this, take a look...

Is it just me, or does this make it look really, really, really naff?

Really weird idea releasing "making of" videos like this, allowing us to judge before we've ridden, especially when all you're showing off is flat static paintings done with UV. There's nothing wrong with static painted UV backdrops, but they sound boring out of context...

I'm suspecting that that indoors section is going to be a quick and thus anything more elaborate, such as animatronics (even if its just a 2D moving cut out... falling tree?) or physical theming would kind of be wasted. I just hope it works and isn't going to look really naff, because that's how the video makes it look.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

Haha, that looks awful. Looks like it should be in some dodgy dark ride on the Jersey Shore.

UV BLACK LIGHT LEAVES OF DEATH! RUN!

Nah.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

OMG, I'm such a fan of what I just saw. It would be amazing if they went the realistic route with the set pieces, but I think this is a pretty awesome departure from that. It'll feel completely surreal and hopefully intense being in there.

Though I'm the kind of guy that'll buy some glowsticks to mess around with ;)

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

I honestly think it might be cool if they put fog in the building. That with the UV lighting would probably make it really cool if you were zipping through purple lit smoke at such high speeds through those beautiful paintings. I think they might find room for one piece of high tech theming, such as on the drop and the MCBR that I think I saw on a picture.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

Well, right now that artwork just reminds me of a cheap mini golfing place I once went to. Should be interesting to see how they incorporate it into the ride though. And I agree fog would be a great addition.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

It's very Revenge of the Mummy and those 2D cut-outs around the coaster track...

Perhaps (as Joey referenced) it will be going at a fast enough speed to not make these look as bad as they could be?

Might work brilliantly, might not, wait and see time for that...

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

Yeah, you're right Benin. Revenge of the Mummy does it and that is easily the best indoor coaster in the world... But one of the reasons it works there is because you've been "set up" with physical theming. I just think on Verbolten it risks seeming cheap, but I'm going to reserve judgement.

I'm just shocked at that video.... Just, bad idea I think.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

And that is by FAR the worst part of RotM. It's the part that really sticks out as being cheap, and a bit unimaginative. It's the only part of that ride I really don't like.

I'm with Reddude, it reminds me of the ghetto Mini Golf they have at Belmont or something.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

I think it'll be hard to judge until you actually ride it. As of now i'm not impressed, it does remind me of a golf in the dark mini-golf. I really don't think it'll be able to pull it off like RotM.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

Thing is about that part of RotM is that you're moving so fast anything else would really be wasted.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

XD It appears as if I'm not the only one who was reminded of those cheap blacklight mini golf places when I saw those panels! While they might look cheap there, I think they might look good on the ride when you're zipping through those tiny holes. And I noticed that in addition to the drop there was an MCBR in the building. I'm thinking that they might have little cutscene-style animatronic shows in blacklight at that point where it slows down, as well as on the drop. The combination of cutscenes, fog, and those beautiful panels would be pretty epic.

And I actually think that the blacklight might be the best way to get the look they were going for. There's a lot of twisty, wooded roads where I live and they're pretty odd to drive on at night. You're in total blackness except for the road, the occasional guardrail, and a few trees your headlights pick up. Any road sign or deer or anything else you should probably be aware of is only visible for like two seconds max. I think they're trying to do this by having you zip around turns with things getting a little too close to the ride envelope to freak you out. Because that's what would happen if you came across something bad on one of those twisty forest roads that we take somethimes. And the depiction of the black forest used in the advertisement videos shows a black and light blue color palatte with the bright red car sticking out. I think that this would be the best way to get the palatte shown in the videos.

Again, just ideas.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

Yeah, and when I said the panels remind me of the cheap mini golf courses I am obviously keeping in mind that I don't run around them at 50+ mph (although I can see that as being fun). It really will come down to execution but I agree with others who say that the idea of releasing a behind the scenes video this early was a poor decision and, to me, is telling us something about the ride that I really probably don't care about until well after I've ridden it a few times.

Re: "Verbolten" Multi-Launch Zierer for BGWilliamsburg

^Exactly. Well put, reddude.

I think it will be fine, and not that many people will notice it. But in the tunnel thing, that may be unavoidable...
