What's new

The TV we watch...

My favorite comedy ever is Trailer Park Boys, though I think the Netflix seasons, apart from 9 aren't nearly on the same level as when Clattenburg was in charge.
My favorite drama ever is The Wire. I'm also a big fan of Breaking Bad and Lost. (I was totally disappointed in most of the last season of Lost, though. And hating on the ending is to Lost fans as what hating on Valravn is to coaster enthusiasists. Though I thought Valravn was pretty good but not amazing. That Lost ending blew chunks though.)
I'm currently watching season 11 of It's Always Sunny and the latest season of Better Call Saul.

Been binging marvel on Netflix. Watched Luke Cage and now almost finished with Iron Fist. Iron Fist has it's moments, but somewhat lacking so far.

Not having cable makes it difficult to keep up on other shows. Going to start Man in the High Castle probably in the next week or two.

Sense8 season 2 starts Friday!
If you haven't seen the first season or the 'Happy F*cking New Year' 2-hour special episode, there's still time to binge away.

I've decided life is too short to worry about Marvel/DC superhero TV shows. There is so much good TV out there, and I enjoy the movies enough already.

I think only show not in my super hero lineup currently is Powerless, which I'll watch if nbc picks up for season 2.

Ah, I didn't realise that was this week! I still have to watch the Christmas special.

I just watched the finale of Line of Duty series 4. Excellent stuff, gripping and it wrapped up the current plotline well while keeping up the bigger story to develop nicely in the next series.

^ Watched Line of Duty too, first series I've watched. Very good, gripping but had it's flaws. DS Arnott would have been dead after the beating he got and him being alive was disappointing. Felt the end was very rushed and wrapped up too quickly too.

Just finished watching Big Little Lies with Reece Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Adam Scott (who I couldn't see past making his family sing in the car in Step Brothers).
This again is a very good TV series with each episode leaving you wanting to find out more as the story unfolds, unfortunately we guessed the outcome of the storyline 2/3 episodes in so weren't really 'wowed' by the season finale.

For light entertainment I've been watching Father Ted on All 4 :)

I finished Sense8 at the weekend. I still really like the premise of the show and the final episode was amazing but sometimes it really drags, considering how rushed the finale felt I find that a little disappointing. Still enjoyable though.

Started watching the second season of Master of None. 4 eps in and it's absolutely fantastic, really enjoying it.

Just watched the first bit of the new Twin Peaks. Weirds.

I was VERY into the original series of this (insofar as seeking out the TV movie on video well before the series even aired in the UK as I was a bit of a Lynch freak in my student days - Blue Velvet especially). Anyway, despite the weirds, really enjoyed it (parts 1&2, think 3&4 are available now on demand as well but might try and pace myself :) ). Very incoherent obviously but you just have to go with the flow really, bit like a piece of modern-art you just don't quite understand.

Not something to just drop into though - very arty farty and (so far) the plot isn't making much sense. :)

See Netflix cancelled that yesterday, so your statement was truer than you might have imagined.

I just this morning watched the last That 70s Show on Netflix. I've been watching one episode a day (almost every day, while on a exercise bike) for a while - there are 200 episodes. So now I need to find something else or I'll get fat. Last series was a bit of a drag, but before that was all good (had caught a lot of them in the past anyway, but never really in sequence which made it a interesting to see how characters appeared and vanished :) ).

(Oh and Twin Peaks is getting interesting - its gone all funny now (funny ha ha rather than funny weird))

Hahahahahaaaaaaaaa *cries*

Loads of peeps on Twitter are threatening/have cancelled their Netflix subscriptions over it which is silly. I'm a bit gutted they're not even gonna make a special ep to wrap up the story a bit, it left on quite the cliffhanger. Oh well.

I'm about 3 episodes off the end of Series 1 of Sense 8, and a bit sick of it. If it's been cancelled, I'll probably just sack the rest of it off. Bollocks to that.

Been binging Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix and House of Cards season 5. Titus is just fantastic.

Norway's most popular TV series ever, "Skam", just aired its last episode. I've heard it got a following overseas, but haven't seen it discussed here or on the handful of other forums I'm frequenting, so I guess those claims are slightly exaggerated. The series follows a group of youths through two years of high school, with all the intrigues, relations, character struggles and heartbreaking/heartwarming episodes that follow. It's quite strange to browse the national newspapers and see all of them say goodbye to Skam, praising the various situations and themes it featured over the two years it ran. It handled stuff like discrimination, homosexuality, eating disorders, rape, depression, and even conservative Islam very realistically, and with some dose of humour. Its publishing format was also unusual, it was released online scene-by-scene in "real time" - that is, the scenes were shot and edited within a week of airing, and released at times coinciding with the setting of the scene. So a scene set at 10 AM on May 17 would be released at 10 AM on May 17 with no prior announcement, causing many Norwegian youths to keep a tab of their browser open at all times, in case a new scene was released.

Disputes with the copyright holders of the music used in the series caused Skam blocked for international audiences. But I hear it was pirated and subtitled extensively, so I guess it's out there to find for those who look for it. They're also making an American version, I wonder how that will go.

A few TV shows I've watched in the past 3-6 months due to work constraints I couldn't really watch it all that quick so I'll review everything season by season starting off with...

13 Reasons Why.
Ok a very basic teenage drama depicting suicide and very teenage things such as drinking teenage social lives and rape. It was good but it was all very intriguing into who played what part in Hannah's death. The ending 2 episodes were probably the most real to me at that time because of all the things I was going through. I really don't want a Season 2 for this show.

Walking Dead.
Being a fan of zombies this show has been on my list of things to watch for years and does it live up to the hype. In a short word yes, the way people can survive during the whole apocalypse is amazing I love the show the characters especially Daryl, Carl and of course Rick. I'm about halfway through Season 6 so I can tell how they are slowly going to bring in Neegan but I really don't think he'll be an amazing villain like The Governor who is one of my all time favourite villains.

Finally got on the Outlander bandwagon. It's...alright. It think it suffers a little from personality disorder - it starts off as a sci-fi romp and mutates through historical drama and softcore porn (I'm not a prude but it doesn't exactly move the story on) to a sort of Scottish Doctor Who. Guess it's a good advert for Scotland and the scenery is lovely.

I just finished The Sopranos and now have this tv show void that I'm trying to decide if I should fill with Westworld or The Leftovers. Watched each pilot and am currently leaning toward Westworld.

Been watching lots recently. Watched Orphan Black the whole way through. I really enjoyed it, the visual effects team did an incredible job at blending the different performances from the lead actress. She also did an excellent job and conveying so many different characters and making each one feel unique. It got a bit silly and samey at times and the way they just remove and totally forget about certain major characters was annoying. I highly recommend giving this show a go.

Game of Thrones continues to be epic. Can't believe there's only 2 eps to go.

Defenders. I loved Daredevil Season 1, season 2 was good, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist all felt really poorly developed though. I was still excited to see how they'd bring them all together considering the amount of characters that appear across the different shows. I enjoyed the show but felt like something was missing. The first two eps seem to set everything up quite well (loved how each character's scenes were colour coded) but it was a bit of a mess after that. The more I think about the show the more issues I have with it. I did enjoy it during the speedy binge watch though.

Netflix added a new original called American Vandal the other week which is an amazing documentary satire about a high school prank gone too far. I loved the series, the characters feel real and the situations feel natural. It's also been filmed really nicely and despite some slightly dull moments it entertained me with some proper LOL moments littered throughout. Highly recommend giving this a go.

The good place. I watched the first few eps on a flight back in March and have been patiently waiting for Netflix to add it. Well they finally did and last night I binged the rest of the first season. This is so satisfyingly brilliant. The cast are amazing and there's some really fun moments with maybe one of the best plot twists ever. I look forward to watching the second season soon.
