What's new

Six Flags 2016

The Revolution change is the best thing for SFMM, unless they got 10 large capacity flat rides in one year. Revolution is fun, but with those otsr it is unbearable. I only hope they kill some of the trims on it in the process.

Joker looks cool, the free spin as well, but then it's nothing. Nothing original at all actually, yes RMC but that's a conversion and free spin is a clone.

With the exception of The Joker, there's not much in next years line up that gets me wet. In fact, is it 2015 all over again?

Still, it's steady investment. I feel that SF must make a bold statement in their 2017 line-up and do something unique, big and sexy. Otherwise the only difference between the parks will be their names.
Or better yet - don't make it a point to say you have new additions for every park in your chain every year. I would much rather have well thought through capital investments over an obligatory blanket of rides/attractions that may or may not be the best additions for respective parks.

The whole scheme feels forced to an extent, with too much emphasis on "NEW FOR [INSERT YEAR]!"

^^Especially since roughly .01% of Six Flags guests will visit more than one Six Flags park in one season. Why should someone from Chicago be expected to care what's happening 700 miles away at Six Flags in Atlanta? Surely the SFMM market is much more interested in what's happening at Knott's and Disney than at Six Flags New England?

Looking at videos, it looks like La Ronde's Gravitor ride is almost a non-inverting Chance-Morgan UniCoaster. You are in a 2-seat open gondola that goes up about 15-ish feet, and you use a joystick to control the spinning of the seats. It should be a nice fit for the park.

Well, I guess at least SFGAm didn't get a Fireball? Trying to see the positive here.

I really hope Cedar Fair doesn't adopt the Six Flags approach in coming years. I don't know how they can make a business case to put 15+ million into a B&M when their competitor is spending less than that on the additions to their entire chain.

When and why Revolution got shoulder restrains ?

1992. Teenagers were standing up on the ride mid course (they do the same on Goldrusher), so the park said F-you, were going to nail you to your seats and bang the hell out of your heads.

It wasn't until the shin guards came about on the Premier loopers and RMC rides that SF took another look at an alternative.

An update for SFMM from California Coaster Kings:

Tatsu might finally get a repaint(or SF is trying to finish up the Orange paint from the Scream! repaint)

And the Revolution area is getting quite a bit of work, with many trees removed...

and the station is being worked on, with the path leading to it gone, and the trains being covered in a black tarp:

It's nice to see some TLC! But I actually liked the faded colors of Tatsu :--D

Yea, what's going to happen to Revolution? I remember seeing a lot of signs saying "welcome back to the New Revolution in 2016". But what will actually change? New trains and a new coat of paint? Or more..?

New update from In The Loop at Magic Mountain...

[youtubevid]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJam6b4inmU[/youtubevid]

For those too lazy to watch it, the Batman facade in the Stadium is coming down, the old Panda Express signage is being removed(it will probably be renamed to Chop Six(which is the worst Asian food I've ever had)), the Orient Express trains are now blue, Revolution's supports are being repainted blue, Revolution is getting some maintenance work done(i.e. new roof, guard rails, paths, etc.), and the green TC train has become a parts donor.

Remember when the park swore they would have 4 trains for TC with no less than 3 running any given day to ensure it dueled.

So full of ****.

Revolution is also getting lapbars like it used to have when it first opened.

Not an expert on Six Flags (haven't been to Magic Mountain or any of their parks) but I am impressed to see this change. Call me "one of those Schwarzkopf fans" ( ) but it's nice to read about old rides getting actual worthwhile improvements like this.

It's one of the biggest examples of turd polishing we've seen for a while.

F**k nostalgia; it's crap.

Ok, but would you rather ride it with over the shoulder restraints or lapbars?

I think it's better than the park not doing anything at all for a year (if sf do that). The colour scheme looks like it needed a job and it at least *looks* like a decent family fill in coaster in a nice leafy setting. There's no kidding that it won't be the best change since sliced bread but it looks like they're trying to make a general improvement to the ride which will hopefully an overall positive, even if a small one.

^ If/when I'm at Magic Mountain again, I'd likely skip it to be honest.

I've ridden it on both visits, but only bothered the second time because it was walk-on.

Yeah, it will be better with lap bars, but the fact that they're spending money on it just means that it'll still be around for years with no plans to replace it with something better.

I'm honestly not sure how they're doing for space, but they must be in a position now that new attractions will be replacing older ones?
