SeaWorld Orlando | Mako | B&M Hyper Coaster

Trimming/roughness/pacing tend to be the main detractors/differences between the good and the bad(Intimidator, Raging Bull, Hollywood Dream, Silver Star.. need I go on?)

Silver Star has neither of those, which is why I don't get why it gets bashed so often. When I rode it, it was a brilliant and smooth ride full of amazing floater.

Well floater isn't amazing :p but I can only go off of what I've heard/experienced on similar rides. Reviews for SS have been on the negative side throughout it's time.. with Trims being the main problem.

That was in the past though. So I'm guessing most of the bad reputation is from people riding it long ago. Nowadays it's pretty much trimless. And I prefer good sustained floater over ejector to be honest.

Raging bull was the first B&M Hyper, and is still smooth as butter.

True, the trims are a bit of a let down, but you do get some nice floater on the drops.

^ Have you ever noticed how B&M has a tendency to not beat similar specced Intamin airtime machines?

Of course it will be a good roller coaster. But will it be better than other things you have ridden?

I don't prefer certain rides because they rate higher on an online poll, again, it's all about opinion.
What I am driving at is there would appear to be a general consensus that while B&M Hypers are good roller coasters, there are other, better rides.

Why don't you do a poll? I'm pretty sure there are a number of people here who disagree with that statement.

Then how would you word it owen? I'll gladly make edits.

The proposed poll is based on:

To which, I simply prose:

Hyde's poll said:
This topic spawns off of Mako, where a back-and-forth has begun on if B&M Hypers are the best airtime machine. That is, compared to Intamin, Arrow, Morgan, etc., B&M Hypers are the better of the breed. So what say you?

You're asking two different questions.

Initially the debate was over wether B&M Hypers are "good roller coasters", or if "other, better rides" exist.

But then your poll asks if

"B&M Hypers are the best airtime machine"

So are we talking about B&M hypers being good rides in general, or being good airtime machines in general? Because you can have a good ride that isn't an airtime machine.

Let's be honest.. being we were really speaking about Mako and how good it is, I can see where he can get the airtime machine part of it from. I don't think anyone here is doubting they can be good rides.

From what I can determine, what we have here is a classic case of Americans vs. Everyone Else (Europe mostly). We don't really have big things like this over here so to have one in a place where a LOT of Brits/Europeans visit on holiday is exciting because they'll finally be able to access a properly big coaster (yes I know Silver Star lives in Germany but ask your average Sun-reading UK citizen and they won't have heard of Europa, they will have heard of the Florida parks and I'd say a good portion of them would have visited). So basically, this is getting the reaction it is because it is somewhere a lot of us would have the option of visiting in the future. It's almost like it's being built in the UK, us Brits feel a kind of ownership over the Orlando parks that we don't get with other US parks.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Apollo's Chariot was the first B&M Hyper.

As for this ride it seems fine. I like B&M hypers but this doesn't look like it will be the best one by any means.

The reason on why the term airtime machine was chosen was because absolutely there are better roller coasters in the world than the B&M Hyper. I have yet to see someone's Top 10 lead off with a Hyper.

So in the faith that we can all agree that there are indeed better roller coasters than the B&M Hyper, a more apt question which has gathered a good response is within the rank of airtime machines, how does the B&M Hyper stack up? I felt the approach was a more apples to apples comparison, to help drive more at how every ranks B&M Hypers.

Funny how one user on this page has Shambhala (a hyper) as their favourite coaster, and many others on this site do too. Some people's favourite coasters are hypers and I don't see the problem in that.
