I do find it odd with some of the groupings though.
That's always been my issue with the steel poll, too. I can fully understand it with clones: favourite Boomerang, for example, but some of them are just ridiculous.
Favourite Loop/Screw? For me, that's putting coasters like Rolling X-Train and Space 2000, 2 of the worst coasters on the planet, together with Fantasia Special, which is fantastic. That style has so many variations that it doesn't make sense to put them together like that.
To me, it's like saying "Favourite B&M Invert." Actually, I'd argue that there's more variety in Loop/Screw coasters than there is with Inverts.

I told my friends to do it to make it a bit more "What the public like" instead of "fanboy".
That's another area where I find the poll is flawed. The way it's set up makes it extremely elitist towards coaster enthusiasts. The Coasterfanatics method has made the method of voting a
lot easier, but, again, it's the groupings that will cause problems.
I consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable, but I still find myself searching RCDB during these polls to check what some of those coasters are. For a non-enthusiast, they would make little to zero sense at all. "Fav JS III" "Fav RC40"... That makes things difficult even for a lot of us.
Mitch Hawker's polls are definitely the best out there, I'm not arguing that, but they could be made even better if they were more inclusive. At the moment, they only really express the views of the coaster "elite," and it seems a lot of them "can't be arsed."
Take for example Eagle Fortress last year. Only 6 people rated it, including me, which means that of everyone on the TPR trip, only 5, maximum, bothered to complete the poll. That's not a dig at TPR by the way, but it's a clear example of some enthusiasts' general attitudes towards the poll. We've seen the same attitudes from members in this topic.
If enthusiasts find it too much of a chore to complete these polls, then for everyone else, who doesn't understand the terminology, it would be even worse.
I've got quite a few friends with 40+, 50+ coasters under their belts, which is more than a lot of enthusiasts. If these people were to vote, we would get much better, more accurate results from these polls. However, with the current set up, it seems that these people are actively discouraged from voting.
