Kinda threw it together, and realized I messed up TTD and Dback.. but eh.

Wood ballot (734) review complete from my end. Mitch said he doesn't expect to get to work on the poll until next week...

I have the first 520 Steel ballots in my in box this morning, so I'll get them done ASAP.

I got some other stuff going on next week...

I tried to do the coasterfanatic steel poll, and when I got to the ordering section it wouldn't let me drag the coasters on the list? The curser turned to four arrows, but when i tried to drag the coasters it just selected them... has anyone else had this problem?

Its good news though that you got a lot of ballots this year.

I am looking forward to seeing the results.

I expect coasters in Denmark and Denmark to be higher than normal, and some at Magic Mountain.

I'm about 50 ballots in, and I have absolutely ZERO clue where anything is going to finish out.

Lots of love for some of the new for 2009 coasters, though.

I expect some coasters to have an epic rise and some to drop a LOT.

Probably everything good TPR rode will rise and whatever good they didn't ride will drop.

People STILL with this view are actually retarded and annoy me greatly.
EUGH. :x

I'm not ripping the site; I actually really like TPR, but where they go/what they ride really has a big impact on the poll.

All groups will have "some" impact on the polls. The Denmark coasters this year will really jump, and not just because of TPR, but also because of CF. Rides that haven't had a lot of exposure before, now have it.

The thing is, it tends to impact the lesser known coasters more - because they're suddenly in the lime-light. You also find that because they're a bit out of the way, there's not a lot of negative votes against them.

Unlike, say, Nemesis (good example furie :P ). A lot of people it rate it highly, but some people with a very huge poll (i.e. Ben) rate it very low. Ben's low vote in a high coaster count causes Nemesis to lose out much more than a high vote for it from a low coaster count.

Look at the people hitting Denmark recently, TPR and CF. Probably 60 or 80 people or something? However, a lot of those people have very high coaster counts. Some of the coasters got a big thumbs up - which will really raise their position. New (decent) coasters will always rate well.

It's just the nature of the beast really. There is group mentality, but everyone is subject to it. Would Lightning Race be so high in my count if we hadn't had such a fantastic time with ECG and Roodypoo racing and being silly? No, it wouldn't. The company and atmosphere really changed the ranking for me. It was brilliant when I rode it (for whatever reason), and that's how I have to vote it.

If you're caught up in having fun, and the coaster enhances that, rather than killing it, you'll rate it well. The group helps to bolster it, but it won't make a crap ride brilliant - there has to be something decent there in the first place.

Hope that all makes sense, it's a pretty complex issue really...

I think many people around here make the incorrect assumption that the majority of people who take part in TPR trips actually vote in the poll. I've actually found that most people who do the trips either don't care enough about the poll to vote or are too lazy to vote in it.

Take TPR's 2008 Europe trip for example - 70 people went on the trip and only nine of those people actually submitted ballots last year. I don't see how such a small percentage of the ballots are gonna skew the poll, even if everyone had exactly the same opinions (which they didn't anyway). Out of everyone who went on this year's TPR Scandi trip I expect about ten of those people to have sent in ballots this year.

I'd wager that there are more ballots in this years poll from CF people who did the Denmark Live than there are people who did the TPR Scandi trip.

Yes.. however you can't deny that the trips TPR takes DOES affect the polls. Eagle Fortress? I hadn't even HEARD of the ride.. TPR rides it.. and it's in the top 5?

While I do embellish a bit, their effect is relevant.

Gavin also added it that year very highly in his vote...

What does that mean?

Well, it means that if it's a ****ing great ride and a dozen people with big counts ride it - it will be rated ****ing highly... And it will deserve it too.

That's the glory of the Mitch Hawker poll :)

And as I always say; Each to their own.
If they enjoyed it, and these enthusiasts ride alot of coasters and they rate it highly, then good for them... and the coaster :)

Of course, which is exactly my point. 13 people and Gavin rode it.. and it magically became #2.

Before that.. only Gavin had ridden it.. :P
