Ford said Marineland is not a government site and is therefore not part of the plans, according to the Canadian Press and CBC.
But Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati said the city has been working with Marineland to figure out ways to return it to its former position as a major tourism attraction.
“There have been a number of proposals, and the proponents do come to visit the city for land use and to find out what’s allowed through our official plan and zoning bylaws,” Diodati said, noting the property is approximately “three Magic Kingdoms” large.
“To put it into perspective, it used to be the number one tourist attraction in the country, and obviously animal entertainment has fallen out of favour over the last 60 years. But I can tell you, we’re working closely with Marineland, with the trustees there, working closely with our government partners, to find a soft landing for the animals and to turn that into the economic generator that it once was.”
My family on my dad's side has Slovenian roots and same with a close friend of mine and we have witnessed some family members act exactly the same way as the Holer's did. Extremely debt adverse in the face of losing out on billions in revenue if they just took out a single loan or had private investment, and stubbornness to an extreme degree when the government and public tell them what to do (in terms of the marine life)It's a real shame because this park well and truly had potential to be Canada's answer to Kolmarden, being a zoo in a spectacular location with a world-class roller coaster, but it seems like they just took every wrong step on the way there.
The potential is there, just need at least some level of competence in the management sector now.

The Holer's never spent a dime of their own money or took out a loan to grow the park. You can't run a huge theme park this size off of ticket revenue that's insane it would take 500 years to grow things to the size of Wonderland. They were sitting on a golden ticket and squandered it because of stubbornness and crazy beliefs.
