Legoland Denmark | Polar X-plorer | Zierer with drop section

Re: New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

This looks like it could be half decent fun.

I actually reallly want to go back to Legoland Billund. I've not been since I was a kid, but I have fond memories of the place. Unlike the UK park (and probably most of the other parks that were developed heavily under Merlin's influence), I remember the Denmark park as being very much a Lego attraction first and foremost, rather than a kiddie theme park that happens to have a few bits of Lego in it. It also looks like they've still got all the attractions they had back when I visited, but have added loads of the sorts of rides and attractions (coasters, rapids etc) that the other parks have gained over the years.

Re: New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

^I've been there several times and can only say you're right. The LEGO is certainly in focus there. You have go go through Miniland to get anywhere, and wherever you go, there's an amazing creation just around the corner. Most of the attractions also feature pretty awesome models, for instance the Dragon coaster and the flume ride are pure eye candy.

I have high expectations for this, to say the least.

Re: New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

I don't really get how they are going to make this ride Lego-y...
Any ideas?

Re: New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

^I reckon the inside of the "Polar bear cave" would be pretty spectacular. The station, especially the queue, also has potential for displaying lots of nice models. Also, penguin models all over the ride area is pretty much guaranteed.

For the record, the area is themed to "Where the poles meet" (wouldn't that be a very hot place, considered it's either smack in the middle of the Earth's core or somewhere along the Equator?). That means both penguins and polar bears. While eskimos (woops, sorry, inuit) would have been cool as well, it wouldn't be considered acceptable in today's society. There's a chance of it containing some polar explorers, though. Probably some Dane, seeing as it's in Denmark.

Re: New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

^Yeah, your out of the loop. I have to say though, TPR makes good IAAPA videos.

Re: New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

God, I was convinced this was going to be an Intamin! It still looks a beautiful ride, though.

New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

Seeing Merlin used intamin and are now not for this type of ride makes me wonder if they were happy with them.

Maybe Merlin own the design to the drop section and allow other firms to use it?

Re: New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

Maybe it's something to do with maintenance. I notice Thirteen needed a LOT the past couple of seasons.

Re: New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

Problem with Legoland Billund is that it was the first Legoland park, and it was really all about Lego, and not the rides. In later years when they got bought up, alot of that old Lego feeling is missing in the newer additions to the park. Really dissapointing I say. I'm really stoked for the new coaster, but I just wish they would make it more about Lego than it will probably be.

Re: New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

I get your point, koppen. Most of the LEGO parks are simply 'adventure' themed with little coloured knobs added.

Well to be fair, I'd imagine that Zierer would be a lot cheaper than Intamin. They might feel that Thirteen wasn't worth all that money so they've gone for a cheaper option?

Re: New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

Even though i may not get to ride either of these Zierer contraptions for a couple of years im quite excited for them and pleased they have been given the chance over Intamin. Intamin have turned into the wh0res of the Rollercoaster industry IMO, they will do anything for anyone if the price is right. So Zierer spiting Intamin! <3

Their orders seem to have dried up cannot think of one being built next year which is strange.

I can only think of the Hershey Mega Coaster off the top of my head, I'm sure there must be a couple of others but maybe not?

EDIT: 10 inversion coaster Hopi Hari, so just 2 orders

So what do you have against making money? I mean, if you would run Intamin, would you not build what people are asking you to?

Re: New Coaster for Legoland Denmark

I'd seen the concept of their vertical drop coaster, from TPR's IAAPA coverage. I guess the only advantage that Intamin have over Zierer, is that all of the mechanical parts are hidden. This is probably a reason why the Zierer model is cheaper as well.

Still looks great though!
