Kennywood | Steel Curtain | S&S Multi-looper

My sarcasm detector isn't working very well this morning, but - it's a Prius (Hybrid), Raptor (RMC Raptor), and Rex (RMC T-Rex).

The multiple choice argument is curious though...

I didn't catch the Hybrid part. The multiple choice argument would at least point to an RMC. Despite Screamscape reporting that they backed out.
I wonder what picture they would have used for a Woodie.

Havnt posted here in quite some time... Im a KW local....

Just learned that the steel structure behind LJ that previously housed the Whip is being dismantled and rebuilt in lost KW over its former ride.
....more space for fun!

This, Considering it was at an enthusiast event the photo's are fairly easy to intemperate, especially with the RMC rumors were flying around.

Also interesting theory on multiple choice but then I'd imagine there being a 4th option (don't think I've ever seen a multiple choice question with only 3 choices)

I'm surprised they revealed a number yesterday! They revealed one on Thursday!

As for my guess... I reckon a 220ft lift hill with a 197ft drop or vice versa depending on terrain.

This project is one of the few recent projects where I think I will genuinely have absolutely no idea what this will be prior to the announcement. With a lot of major parks' projects, rumours appear on sites like Screamscape prior to the announcement, or sometimes even prior to construction starting. But with this... absolutely nothing.

I dont think this is going to have any launches. Partly because Sky Rocket is a thing inside the park (yes, I know multiple parks have more than a single launcher), but mainly because outside of the Spaghetti Bowls, the S&S ones (none outside of China I believe) and Rock n Rollercoaster - no Steel launch coaster has more than 20 riders per train. I do believe the 3 is referring to inversions at this point (which is kinda lame at just 3....but whatevs now). Would be hilarious if it referred to 3 trains for the ride though.

It's not going to be any of these, but here are some more steel launched coasters that seat more than 20 riders per train;

Something I noticed...

https://rcdb.com/13637.htm

6 cars per train.

Most Mack coasters have 5 cars per train, but DC Rivals, at another Parques Reunidos property, has 6, so 24 per train. The obvious flaw here is Phantom being in the same park, but maybe they want to go with Mack and use the same train configuration for a different type of layout. Not crazy about Phantom but it's definitely a well-rounded hyper, so there's not a lot of stuff they could bring to the table here that the park doesn't already have. My guess is that the 3 is either the number of inversions (park needs those badly) or the number of launches in an Operation Enterprise/Capitol Bullet Train-styled coaster, making it the tallest shuttle launched coaster in the world if I'm not mistaken. That plot they have to work with isn't exactly massive if I'm correct, and this is a way to fit a big, scary 200+ foot launch coaster in there.

If anyone else remembers Gold Rush at Slagharen (kind of got overlooked last year I feel), Gerst's infinity system can also do 2 per train. They've not done the shuttle launch with 6 cars per train yet and it's a long shot, but I wouldn't exactly rule something like this out either. However, if it's 24 per, a vertical lift is out as that's a 4 car max.

Warner Bros. Gold Coast isn't owned by Parques Reunidos. It's owned by Village Roadshow Theme Parks. Also Superman EFC is the tallest shuttle in the world, over 400ft tall.

Whoops, I had that confused with Movie Park Germany, though they coincidentally also have a Mack coaster, a shuttle launch in Star Trek.

I didn't mean tallest shuttle, I meant tallest shuttle launch. As in, forwards, backwards, and then forwards again, think Gold Rush or a Premier Sky Rocket II. I think the record holder for this now is Soaring With Dragon but I could be wrong.

Ah OK. :)

I can't see it being 220 ft drop. That's too close to Phantom's second drop, and would take away from that ride's most impressive and popular feature.

I just had a thought... with circular supports, maybe B&M are being called upon for this project? I think most B&Ms have circular supports, and Parques Reunidos is a pretty big company, so I'm sure they could probably afford a B&M if they wanted one. As for what sort of B&M, I reckon with the numbers we have, we could potentially get an 8-across dive coaster with 3 rows, as that would match the 24 that we have been given. Also, Valravn and Valkyria both have 3 inversions, so it's highly plausible that Kennywood could build a triple-inverting dive coaster, matching with the number 3. And I can totally see a B&M dive with a 197ft lift hill and a 220ft drop or vice versa. A 220ft drop would even claim them the record for the world's tallest dive coaster drop, as Valravn's is only 214ft. And if SheiKra at Busch Gardens Tampa is anything to go by, then a 220ft vertical drop into a ravine would be pretty damn insane!

I am literally just speculating off of what we have at the minute, though. I think we need more numbers before we can come to some sort of conclusion. One thing I do think, though, is that this is definitely the most intriguing 2019 project so far, and I reckon it could be in with a chance of winning Best New Ride of 2019 at the GTAs if it's particularly good.

I'm all for having a bit of fun speculating but it's a step too far to say it's in with a shot of winning the best coaster award when all the knowledge we have is four unitless numbers and a really mixed bag of rumours.

RIP on completely forgetting about Hulk, the Intamin Impulses and the old Schwarzkopfs.

I knew I was forgetting some of them, but for the life of me I couldnt remember which ones. What makes it worse is I remembered Thunderbird immediately, but Hulk completely skipped my mind since it is so ingrained that that launch was from another company and not B&M themselves.

I probably could have clarified a bit more amd went with modern day launchers, but it is what it is at this point.

As for the new reveal - How awesomely troll would it be if they leave only those 2 numbers out in regards to height, and those are like hills 2 and 3.

Thing is, if Parques Reunidos got to pick between a large B&M, or a small SBF Visa plus a large bonus to the owners in Madrid, there's no way in heck they'd ever choose the former. I can totally believe the rumours that RMC were involved but backed out, the reason being that the chain wasn't willing to pay that much once a final (and higher than initially assumed) cost estimate had been made.

For Kennywood, I either expect an unusually large ride for a manufacturer of minor coasters (Zierer, for instance), or something new from a manufacturer we haven't seen much of before. All jokes aside, I think this will be a pretty big coaster, but it won't be a top-shelf pick. Parques Reunidos has a proven history of investing rarely and investing little, so I doubt they'll go to B&M or even Intamin for this project. Could be Premier or Gerstlauer, but probably nothing more fancy than that.
