John Wardley to Work with B&M Once Again

the fact that he's working with B&M doesn't necessarily mean said B&M will be for Merlin

He's working FOR Merlin, of course it's a Merlin ride!!!! lol. Everything John's ever done has been within Tussauds(Merlin) I doubt he'll just go off to some random park now.

And you have to remember John Wardley is not a ride designer, he contributes and tells the manufacturer what he wants, but he doesn't actually design it. Even on Nemesis, his only input was the final wingover. His area of work is tied with the park and company who runs the park, he's not just gonna scoot off to another owner.

"..his only input was the final wingover."

Erm. No. But you're right in that he didn't design the ride, what was Stengel's job. Wardley comes up with the idea, and followed said idea through it's design, such as "adding" the last wingover. He'd have critisised the design for not being exciting right until the last moment, or something along those lines, and asked for an inversion when least expected. I suspect it was brought back to him with amendments, and the only inversion they could put in there right at the end. Wardley presents challenges, such as, being able to fly... or, a vertical drop.

As for my comment you quoted, I think its very unlikely it will go to anyone else. Highly unlikley. But Wardley is retired. And okay, he's a Merlin rides consultant, but if someone offered him enough money... I don't see why it HAS to be for Merlin? But my point was mostly that, whilst it doesn't have to be, it's most likely to be for Thorpe based on the current information.

^Irrelevant.

It IS going to Thorpe because that's what most people on here want.

A little update on this subject with some of the "rumours" that were printed in the last edition of First Drop, then Gardaland would be the place to look at, and that it might be something brand new :)
It could even be launched...

Thorpe will have to wait a year for their new coaster, but then again 2012 would be the perfect year for it though...

I think Thorpe will get a major coaster in 2012, but whether or not it's this B&M is another matter entirely. I think it would make sense, certainly more sense than Gardaland, but what do I know?

Based on details in that interview with Wardley and his website, that this world's first that is almost guaranteed to be for Thorpe, Gardaland or Heide. But I think it's likley to have a US cousin built at one of the Busch parks soon after. I think whatever BGE are currently planning for the space that Drachen Fire and Big Bad Wolf once occupied is far too soon to be this world's first B&M, and I'd be suprised if BGE aren't planning a new country and a B&M flyer for that area for 2011/12.

^ As the article in First Drop said, the prototype will be built at Gardaland and then one at Thorpe the year after...

The next major (Stealth size or bigger) coaster will be installed around 2016 as they have to wait 10 years to build that high. It is also stated in the new MTDP that will be released shortly. Here is a small section of it:

I'm sure we will have a new coaster, hopefully B&M before then though. :--D

The height limits around Thorpe will change once the new runway gets approved, Thorpe will be able to build higher.

I am really hoping for a B&M Hyper and not a Dive Machine or a Flyer, we need a good Hyper coaster.

Oh right, you didn't make that very clear. Where's the article?

^ In First Drop as I said, in the latest issue that arrived today...

Right. Well, again, it's unclear from your post. Since you said it was a rumour. And failed to explain why Thorpe would be waiting a year, or how that related at all. And then you made it sound like it was all solid fact. So I asked for a link to the article... no camera or scanner?

Never mind anyway XD

Does the article say whether it will be a thrilling coaster? As far as I know B&M only build thrill-coasters but then on the other hand I guess hence Garda is aimed at familys (there aint no thrilling coaster today) I have a hard time believing they will invest in something big and scary...

It is certainly good news though if it's being launched! I think B&M has given away to many market shares to Intamin in their decision not constructing launchers.. I guess they're realising that now, better late than never!

Is there really enough space at Thorpe to fit in a Hyper?? I visited the park for the first time this summer and it is a really small and jam-packed park. I have a hard time imaginig there will fit a hyper unless they build it in the lake or something..

Yea, a scanned picture of the article would be nice :--D if possible? Thanks!

Very true Tom. Either way if they want a ride they will make room. They did for Stealth, Saw etc.

Well the difference as far as I can see is that both Stealth and Saw are small coasters and still did cost quite a bit more due to refilling, a B&M hyper is a huge coaster demanding huge refills at a huge cost...

But I wouldn't mind if Merlin think they can afford it! :p

I'd bet a testicle if they really wanted to, they could fit one in without filling and lake in anyway. Those train tracks look mighty fine to me...

^^ A B&M hyper almost takes up no space at all, they could do like on Silver Trim and build the bulk of it over the car-park, or just over path/rides anywhere in the park...

I won't copy the article, copyright stuff you know...

But I will quote the relevant bit from the B&M IAAPA article it's from:
First Drop Magazine 86:th edition page 53. said:
More interesting were rumours of a new coaster style at Gardaland (Castelnuovo del Garda, Italy). It would be similar in nature to Intamin's Wing Rider, Furius Baco at Port Aventura (Salou, Spain).
After a more text, where they discuss the similaritys with DM's and Wing Rider's the article continue:
Further on they said:
We also herd that following the Gardaland prototype, another version may make it's way to Thorpe Park (Chertsey, England), Gardaland's sister park shortly after.
