Is the Blade finally dead?

Blade is dead.

Yep, (as I said) they've tweeted confirming it's closure. Multiple times it seems. At least they haven't strung enthusiastists on for months with speculations. We were only confused for a day!

I personally don't care because I never ride it, but it annoys me because Alton needs more diversity around the park, and removing the Blade doesn't help.

It is, but its so early. Its clearly cost saving. I don't mind personally, it just seems morally unjust? Being a petty enthusiast here completely, makes sense operationally.

The thing I don't get is why all the cost-cutting all of a sudden? Is it because they have a massive project upcoming or because they're just (as usual) being tight.

When I first went to Alton ; there were 2 rides of note, Corkscrew and the Pirate Ship.

I liked the Corkscrew and hated the Pirate Ship, my little sister however seemed to have a thing about the Pirate Ship and once rode it 17 times on the run Uggggghhhhh. We even got my mum on the thing the once.

Was never the same after they moved it, think I only ever rode it once in the Valley - never seemed as big a swing as when it was in the Springfield Centre?

Heres a pic (not mine)

^ Yeah roughly.

There was also a bobsled type thing that ran down from the top of the hill to just behind where that pic would have been taken from - and a Dinsosaur walkthru off to the right in the Black Hole/Smiler spot.

Oblivion rather re-landscaped that whole area.

Naturally, replacing it with a coaster is great for us, but I just....don't get what they're doing. 3 'big' coasters in one small area?!

To balance it out a bit, I was hoping for the next big ride to be something like a Mack water Coaster replacing the Flume.

My point was more to do with just having 3 adult coasters (and Sub Terra obv), which will leave absolutely nothing for kids to do up there.

They like to claim to be this amazing family park but I'd never dream of taking kids there.

So we could potentially have:

Forbidden Valley: 3 coasters, 1 flat
Dark Forest: 2 coasters, 0 flats
X-Sector: 2 coasters, 1 flat

These are their main thrill areas.
Although they do have a couple of flats in other areas it looks to end up very lopsided. I feel like maybe they don't think they can market flats as well as coasters so see them as wasted investments?

It's like the coasters are the meat and the flats are the veg. They avoid eating the veg because they want more meat but in the end you need the veg to make the meat taste better and fill the plate. ha.

I suppose you could count Sub-Terra as a flat though, as it does actually do thrilling things.

Sub-terra was included. The prediction was when/if Ripsaw leaves FV.

^Ah OK. I've always counted Hex as a flat as well, because if you can count a pirate ship as a flat, then there's not really a reason not to count a madhouse.

Yes but Hex isn't in any of those areas.

Why would Ripsaw leave? I know it's old but whenever I go it's a crowdpleaser.
It was listed as due for removal along with the blade in the development plan and is something most people assume will happen (see other threads as it comes up often). Some speculate that it might move to x-sector but this is currently only a rumour. The scenario above was if it went for good as a lot of people think it might.

People theorise it'll leave for the new coaster. Also sure someone on here says it has minor breakdowns a lot, much like Chessington's.
