Formula Rossa SBNO

Had an unexpected layover in Dubai (a terrible shame, truly) and managed to ride it on Monday (the 6th)!

Happy to report it opened with the park and operated all day (11 - 8) with no issues. The reservation system is no more and the ride had a 60 minute wait with 1 train ops for most of the day, but credit to the staff for otherwise speedy ops. Unfortunately as it was the first day of their tourist low season, Flying Aces entered a planned maintenance period literally the day I visited and will be closed until the 24th (seriously, has anyone ever managed to visit the park when both coasters have been open?!?), with Mission Ferrari also down for extra spite.

Honestly wasn't that impressed when I rode it in the morning (little bit rough), but decided to wait for the front at the end of the day and didn't regret it! That launch is something else.

How busy is the Park typically in January?

Not that busy in terms of people, but everything was running one train so 30 - 60 minute queues for the coasters. Rest of the rides were absolutely dead though.

Props for braving still long queues! I most likely lucked out on my visit two years ago (almost to the day) - queue times were 30 minutes max. But was able to get the Mission Ferrari spite with you. <3

Thanks, glad someone managed to get on both the big coasters! I suppose I hadn't even planned to be there so any cred I got was a bonus. As Flying Aces was closed actually I ended up walking over to SeaWorld during the peak of the day to spam Manta which was definitely worth another £30 for the combo ticket. It was a walk on the entire time and really punches above its weight - I'd say it's about as good as a Mega-Lite, but with a more interesting layout. It's probably not going to break into anyone's top 10 but it's thoroughly enjoyable and the park, which is basically just a massive aquarium, is beautiful. Obviously Eel Racer was closed for my third spite of the day!

Good to hear someone else singing the praises of Manta. Quality ride. Little shame about the theming (exterior could be better) but the ride is awesome, as is the park in general.

I managed Flying Aces and Mission Ferrari last year, so another combo of the "2 out of 3" big creds!

In visiting this coming Monday on a planned extended layover. Of course a major ride is closed 🙄 There is a fast pass that worked well for me before, even for just a few hours getting on Mission Ferrari. Of course they removed Rossa from the included rides so will wait to see what's actually open first.

@CoasterCrazy did you see which side of GT Challenge was running?

Think I lucked out when I went. It was before mission Ferrari was a thing although I think the previous ride had closed already. But not only were Formula Rossa and Flying Aces both open, GT had both sides running and Turbo Track ran in the afternoon.

I actually loved GT with both trains running. It's probably the best execution of the sense of racing I've ever done. On most dueling coasters I've done you see the other train once or twice, on racing coasters like Grand National you see the other train constantly but always know where the other train is.

GT has a weird middle ground where you can see the other train a lot, but you never quite know what side it's going to be or who's going to be ahead at that point. Really sells the racing aspect.

Anyway I ramble.

Somehow both?!? Totally agree with Roomraider on this ride, went in with very low expectations but was really pleasantly surprised! Good laterals too. Evidence below:

Sorry to hear Flying Aces will be closed for you too! Their maintenance schedule is on their website, so at least they're totally transparent about it:

That said, they only posted Flying Aces' maintenance schedule two days before I visited, but hopefully GT keeps running both sides to provide a tiny amount of consolation. I suppose it's a year round park so they have to do their annual maintenance at some point, and enthusiasts (rightfully) don't tend to visit around peak tourist season. Still, it's quite bad that nobody on here seems to have ridden Rossa, Aces, Turbo Track and Mission Ferrari on the same day!

Going back to the subject of this thread, the ride's catch car is now red (it's white in all media I could find) so if I was to guess which long lead-time component of the ride caused the closure that'd be it!

Oooo nice to get them racing! I only had the right station side running on my visit. For Mission Ferrari, it was the second day of operation, so went in with equally low expectations - we did even know it had a chance at opening before I booked my travels!

On Formula Rossa, interesting on changing the catch car color. Whatever the work was - they obviously were committed to realllllly overhauling. Maybe borrowing that used KK launch cable? ;)

I went this past Monday. A week after the noted GT dueling and it's back to one side already. The other side I needed so yay. I'll take that luck as the Rossa events were a mess that I'm almost sure was an exceptional one off for the day. They filmed something but I can only assume it was for to the ride and due to people removing equipment incredibly slowly for a very long time. No actual announcements I heard and fast pass was sold for times before it actually opened so be aware they don't know what they are doing.
