What's new

Fantasy Football (American football)

Is that gonna be all the removals? I feel like id be a low man on the totem pole but im a loyal fantasy sports player and have been for years.

What's with not allowing fractional points? I absolutely hate that rule for 2 reasons: 1) Because it makes ties much more likely, and everyone hates ties. 2) Passing and rushing/receiving yards that don't equal up to a multiple of 25 or 10, respectively, go completely to waste when they could be the difference between a win and a loss.

I guess it's too late to do anything about it for week 1, but unless someone has a really good reason for why fractional points are bad, can we please change that setting for the future?

Is yahoo won't let you change it a good reason?

^ Well, if it's locked in for the season, then I guess there's nothing that can be done about it. But maybe it's only locked because this week's games have started, so try changing it after this weekend's games?

Also, I thought the SMW booting thing was a joke.. he just changed his team name, right? Who am I playing this week?

I didn't notice that at all untill you pointed it out. I totally agree with you 100% ties suck and the fractional points can add up.

A few notes:
- Fractional points are now a part of the league. It was simply an unchecked box that I overlooked.
- I looked into adding 2 additional roster spots, but it isn't possible, so sorry about that
- I will adjust other questions in the league message boards.

Alright, fractional points! But I'm OK with the roster sizes as they are though.. they were already pretty gigantic.

^Agreed. Smaller is MUCH more of a challenge. Having to decide from 3 amazing RB's for one spot makes the risk/reward much greater.. and makes you THAT much more frustrated. Fantasy football right there!

^ Exactly why, if/when we continue the league next year, I'd be in favor of reducing the roster sizes. As it is, there aren't a whole lot of enticing free agents because it's pretty easy to stash people on your bench.

However there is still the challenge of deciding who to sit and who to start, so with this many players on a team, that's going to keep things interesting.

So... how bout these refs? Anyone catch the debacle that was Monday Night football?
Yep. Disgrace

It was bad, didn't see it live, but did see highlights, and it's bad, but it isn't like the regular refs don't make awful calls sometimes too.

^Homework prevented it.

What happened?

Here's the ESPN writeup & video highlights

Essentially it came down to a hail mary jump ball on the final play of regulation with Seattle down 5. Tate commits offensive pass interference (not called, which followed a series of botched OPI & DPI calls in the preceding 5 minutes), then, AFTER coming to the ground, wrestles the ball out of the Packer defender's hands. Very clearly an interception, yet the officials ruled it a touchdown, even after video review, giving Seattle the win. The Packers were understandably furious and left the field to head to the locker room during the video review. Even some officials apparently left the field, thinking the game was over. However since by rule, the PAT must be kicked before the game is officially over, there were about 10 minutes of mayhem where the officials had to regroup, then get Seattle and Green Bay players to come back out of the locker room & suit up for one final meaningless PAT attempt. The whole thing was a spectacle and an embarrassment to football. You will surely hear a LOT more about it if you flip the channel to ESPN in the coming days.

You're right, they do make bad calls, and sometimes ones that end up deciding the games. However, their bad calls are certainly less frequent and VERY rarely this egregiously incorrect. Plus, they have the experience and ability to smoothly control and administer the rules of the game. The players have ZERO respect for these replacements, and that's why you see fights and skirmishes that take forever to break up. They know they can get away with more under the watch of these officials, and it interrupts the game flow. There is no question that these games would go by 10x smoother under the regular officials.

I can't really get angry at the replacements, though, because I believe they really are doing the best job that they can. It's just an unfortunate fact that they're in over their heads doing a job for which they simply aren't qualified. I don't really know who to blame, since both sides of this labor dispute seem equally guilty of senseless greed, but at this point, I am leaning more towards the side of the officials. Please, NFL owners... out of the zillions of dollars that the NFL makes, just find a few bucks to pay the refs & get them back on the field. You can't seriously consider allowing this shoddy officiating to continue into the meat of the schedule, when playoff teams are made and broken... or god forbid, into the actual playoffs. This was the first game where the outcome was directly impacted by a blown call, and unless they make a deal fast, I seriously doubt it will be the last.

I finally got a win. Don't worry, I'm bringing lube with me the rest of the season, make it a little less painful as Jamal Charles does you nice and deep like.
