Fantastic old coaster footage/pics

The Bat looks properly mental! I swear the cars look as if they're beyond horizontal at one or two points.

I have to say, I've never been a bit one for "historical" stuff. I do love "retro" though. I think its the whole thing about it being recent enough and having enough connections and similarities to have imagined yourself being there. Or something. Whatever, keep these more recent vintage vids coming please :D

I have a friend who rode it. Said it beat the piss out of you at some parts because you would hit the turn and the car would knock into the edge of the swinging area thingy at its pivot point.

Was properly mental though. Sigh...I want another one made damnit!

From what I underatand, Eagle Fortress (something close) was pretty mental.

Flight Decks' second half was amazing when I rode it a couple years back during their halloween bit.

Yeah, I'd definitely say there are some good Arrow suspended coasters out there. I agree Flight Deck has its moments. And I love the final turn into the break run.

But flight deck just doesn't reach the same intensity level as the bat. Just my opinion though, someone else might think it does

^ You can see from that video that you're right. The Bat makes Eagles Fortress looks tame and I dont think anyone would disagree - but then to be honest, I've never really understood all this fascination with Eagles Fortress anyway...

Lincoln Park in North Dartmouth MA. It opened in the late 40's and was a pretty small park with two roller coasters called the Comet and a kiddie version of the comet if you go on youtube and look up Lincoln Park Comet Roller coaster it has some pretty sick footage of the Comet. It wont let met copy the link in here.

Here's the vid you were talking about:

Lol, people sitting 3-across in the trains and adults being really excited to be on Comet Jr. I love it!

One of my favorite things about seeing old coaster footage, although it's not evident in this video, is seeing people all dressed up to go to the amusement park. Maybe I should try that sometime...

Not too old, but some great footage of Big Bad Wolf <3

^^ Haha GASM is also gone, they didn't really pick rides that lasted long.

Here is a pic a found awhile ago of an old Schwarzkopf concept coaster

I'm going to stick there here, as I just found the pic and it's quite rare to find one!

The old Figure 8 coaster in Porthcawl (top-right in the pic). For some reason as a kid it took me ages to get the courage to ride it, and although it looks pretty basic I remember it as a tangle of white wood with some great head-choppers:-

That concept schwarzkopf looks well fun. I thought it was Arrow who came up with the figure 8 loop though with it being on an Arrow style coaster on RCT3.

Don't know if this has been posted yet but Rye Playland (Rye, New York) used to have a neat wooden coaster by the name of the Aeroplane Coaster. It closed in 1957 due to insurance reasons; not from it being unsafe (it actually had an outstanding track record) but a huge structural investment needed to be made so that it was up to code.

According to some old locals of Rye the Aeroplane Coaster was one of the most intense coasters of its time and actually one of the best designs from Fred Church. Gravity Group has also admitted multiple times that they would like to recreate the ride at any park willing to have their business.

I adore the look of Aeroplane Coaster. Fred Church designed some of the best rides (apparently) of the era. Not just stupid, but well made - the kind of coaster that would be made today. Sadly, I think there is only one of his sole creations left? Just a kiddy coaster somewhere :(

I'm pretty sure that Wodan has "elements" of Aeroplane Coaster, in the same way that Troy is essentially a remake of the Fred Church "Bobs" rides. While they're not an identical remake, they're as close as modern engineering will allow.

Wodan was force-less though, so they missed on that one, but the first drop was pretty good fun.
