What's new

Europa Park | Rulantica Extensions | Waterpark | 2023

Amazing to see how much land they own though, and that eastern area is basically the size of the main park! Have they ever said what it’ll be used for? A second park? I’d imagine that that’s probably just one investment too big for the family alas.
Who knows. Europa Park will soon be full as a lot of the land around it has been nature protected to prevent a big 'urban sprawl' of Rust + park.
In a Blooloop interview Rulantica's director Michael Kreft von Byern spoke about how Rulantica should secure the resort for the next 3 decades:
"We saw that our existing strategy of increasing the number of attractions within Europa-Park would come to an end due to a limited area around the park,” says Kreft von Byern. “What you will see soon at Rulantica is the first step in a concept which will take us through the next 30 years.”

If the steady increase in park guests continues on its trajectory they're bound to pass 6 million soon (well okay there might be a little set back currently...), plus Rulantica with its 30 year development plan. More hotels in Rust in the works and potentially the (still in early stages of discussions) Europa Valle holiday village project in Alsace, France nearby boosting the resort further.
So maybe in a few decades the resort might be in a position where a third gate/second theme park could work, and the Macks have future-proofed by securing this land already.

Aside from finance and complaints against noise/dominating the local market, I see few other reasons as to why the monorail shouldn't happen. It just seems like the logical thing to do.

Almost all the business in Rust rely on the tourism Europa attracts, and the majority of residents work at the park. Giving people better and easier access to local transport would be a winner for everyone. the Macks basically run Rust as it is. If they thought they could make it happen, they would.

Fascinating, many thanks all for the answers. I guess my assumptions on them not wanting to spend to go as far as the train station were way off - either extending the monorail to the station or especially building their own with a spur from the main railway are really significant projects, but go to show 1) how important supporting infrastructure and ease of access is to a park, and 2) how profitable EP must be if they can take this project on.

Some more concepts for the new "Svalgurok" outdoor area - said to be Germany's largest water playground - have been released.

No concepts or further details have been released yet for the new kids outdoor area Snorri's Strand (although in that last image it is likely the rockwork in the background) or the new indoor relaxation and sauna area which they've also promised will be heavily themed.

In the last Rulantica Weekly episode they show the construction site and ground work that has already taken place. It's also teased that the snake head theming element will have some effects and movement.

In today's Europa Park press conference the Macks confirmed Svalgurok will open in Summer 2021 (later than the originally suggested April 2021 but undoubtedly work has been delayed by the lockdown).

The water park's adjoining Hotel Kronsar will also have its offerings expanded with a new relaxation, saunas, fireplace lounge and a fitness area. Set to be open at the end of 2020.

EDIT:
Also previously mentioned in this thread was YULLBE - the new VR midway attraction being added to the resort.

At the virtual press conference today the Macks also shared some new details about it.
- 30 minute long VR adventure using a new tracking system and new headsets with a wider view range.
Contrary to the original report that claimed it would be housed in rooms just off the Rulantica entry foyer; now it was said it will be in a new location beside Rulantica.
- The story will revolve around the discovery of Rulantica and the Adventure Club of Europe. Robbemund (the founder of ACE + new character in the new Piraten in Batavia) will also be part of this adventure.
- Attached to YULLBE will be a new restaurant as well - further expanding the Rulantica/Kronsar area offerings. Thomas Mack said he is still working on a name for it.

Those renderings make it look great, although they conveniently leave out all the naked OAPs that'll be there because... Germany.

Meanwhile the building for YULLBE has been erected beside Hotel Kronasar. Its situated between it and the site of the future 7th resort hotel. It was assembled from delivered components and seems quite temporary. I believe they wish to gauge how much demand there is from guests for YULLBE before building a permanent venue at the resort.

In Rulantica itself work continues for the outdoor 'Svalgurok' and 'Snorri's Strand' expansions for next summer, and the new indoor relaxation and sauna area 'Hyggedal'.

And during the lockdown they took the opportunity to finish the ceiling in the Lumafals area where there had previously just been a plain black ceiling between rockwork formations.

Work is also well underway for the expansion of Hotel Kronasar's facilities.

Rulantica Expansions
The outdoor expansions for Summer 2021, Svalgurok and Snorri's Strand, have already been posted about here before. However these aren't the only expansions to Rulantica in the near future.

Hyggedal - End of 2020
Scandinavian forest themed exclusive relaxation and sauna area indoors, separate from the main hall. Its set to be 1,200m2 in total. To feature 2 large textile saunas, a 200m2 outdoor terrace, loungers, sofas, themed sauna bar, themed showers, Hygge Supreme Hydda with private sauna and a panorama bar for visitors from outside.
The term exclusive does make sound likely to be an upcharge.

VR Coaster/Mack NeXT have been developing SwimVR for a while now; a prototype test can be seen here at 2:55 in this video.

And the first slide parts for Svalgurok's 9 body slides have arrived on site in Rust from ProSlide in Canada.

Don't have any pictures - but when we were there a few weeks ago the huge field next to Rulantica was FULL of slide parts.

Looking at Google Maps, it's the exact same area they used during the main construction. I'd wager there's at least that many pieces of slide out there now too.

Is that going to Europa Park or Rulantica?

I mean, it's not very big is it? You'll be changing direction every 3 seconds, surely?
You aren't swimming but, as seen in the picture and video in earlier post attached, stationary underwater holding onto a water current generating machine giving the impression of swimming along in the virtual film.

Pretty sure those machines propel you forward?
