Yup.
Not announced yet but...well this has fit the "rumor" exactly as is so I guess it's happening.

Does this stuff honestly leak, or does it "leak"?
Just cut the games and make an official announcement "this is what we're doing".

The Sandusky Register, the local paper, is usually the first to give any accurate news on Cedar Point construction. The smart money would be that they talk to higher-up's who are familiar with future development of the park, so in a way the leaks are intentional.

Re: Cedar Point | "Unknown" | B&M Wingrider?

Coastermania is being held at Cedar Point tomorrow, and there have been rumors of a special announcement being made during lunch. (Apart from Mr. Kinzel's statement last year) So an official announcement might be less than 24 hours away. Or they could be opening the worlds biggest cookie filled container. You never know. :p

Re: Cedar Point | "Unknown" | B&M Wingrider?

Yea....I wouldnt count on anything other than cookies or POSSIBLY a name.

Question...

Ya know how in the UK, we end up with all the plans for anything the big parks build pretty damn quickly because the local council has to make the information available? Well, surely that's the same in the US? I always assumed that was why most US coasters get announced early, to stop people bothering, but we so rarely see plans for US parks... And when we do, they are considered "leaks" and ooo naughty shouldn't have them.

What's up with this? Surely, if you want to know what CP, or any other park is doing, you can just find the information from the local building authority? Or is the law different in the US?

Re: Cedar Point | "Unknown" | B&M Wingrider?

See.. I don't know about Ohio. I know some states you can.. but we've NEVER seen anything released beforehand about Cedar Point.. even for the orgyfest of fanboys over TTD and Maverick. You figured SOMEONE would have found those plans somewhere.. but.. nothing was ever found until the ride was announced.. even if construction has already begun.

Re: Cedar Point | "Unknown" | B&M Wingrider?

That is a good question Joey. I do know those permit files can be filed confidentially as a matter of trade secret for a company. Surely roller coaster construction is not trade secret, but I'll try to look into it and see what I can find.

What I am familiar with is the state of Ohio requires that all amusement attractions be inspected by a state official to be given a permit to operate. This also includes a specific amount of hours a ride must be tested before first opening. I believe all rides must be recertified each year.

Another thought is that Cedar Point is not required by Ohio law to submit building plans, as long as it meets all safety requirements upon inspection. All of this falls down to state law, there is no national laws pertaining to the tourism industry. Ohio is rather lenient in all other aspects of the tourism industry; tourism is Ohio's 4th largest economy. As long as everyone is being safe with their operations and meeting inspections, there is no need for the initial go ahead.

Either way, I'll see what I can dig up.

Don't hold your breath on an announcement today either, historically Cedar Point has never announced at CoasterMania. They instead elect to make the announcement online and forward press releases to interested media. Once the ride is built; that is when they will invite media for a ride preview.

Re: Cedar Point | "Unknown" | B&M Wingrider?

There's a chairty fundraiser for the last ride on DT. I'm half considering going. It's $20 to register, but you need to have $50 raised. There's a day-of sign up for $75, which includes your park ticket.
