Just for discussion what are peoples opinions on Amanda. At some points she has been hated, Like when she made rides sbno and tore down the Cyclone (which was quite "meh" anyway).
Some people hate her here is an example...

Everybody should follow @MandsThompson anyway for an insight to one of the UK's top parks. Focused, approachable and sexy. Fab!

Focused? Approachable? Sexy? Are they talking about the same Mandy we are? They're the three words I would put at the bottom of my "words to describe Mandy" list.

May I suggest "Dopey, rude and vile?"

Some people have different opinions on her, What is yours. In My Opinion she has made the park better, Yes she has removed classic rides and Shortened opening hours however she managed to pay off loads of debt that was left behind after GT died and yet she still managed to make a profit. Yes she closed southport however it was never that good a park. Also however she seems like a nice person as seen on twitter however it shows how she can be doopey for example
OMG just filled the car up and petrol costs loads which is strange ,my car is diesel, oh help
And also can be honest
I am starving what should I have for lunch, I know nothing would be good as I feel like a hippo

So what are your thoughts on her, Some people like her some don't, It should be quite interesting to see...

Hahaha, the one about her feeling like a hippo <3

She is actually one of my favourite people ever. She's so determined, knows what she wants, and she does it, and she's been VERY successful. She's a bitch, but, hello, she's in showbuisness, that's where bitches go to make their living <3

And yeah, she spited Southport, but, it was a dump that didn't make any money and was just down the road from her huge park... What was the POINT in it staying open, REALLY?

It's a bit spiteful making stuff at BPB SBNO, but, she's doing sompting with Noah's Ark now, and Trauma Towers wasn't really that good. It's not like she spited Hex or something. And the things she's built/done-up are all GREAT, it was a much nicer park on my last visit than it was in 2008, when it was in turn a much nicer park than in 2006...

AMANDA <3

I like how she's made the park look nicer. Although she is very bitchy and I hate her for ruining Southport and for getting rid of loads of classic rides from BPB and just replacing them with fountains.

How can we trust someone who puts petrol in their diesel car to run a theme park? :p

Interesting. I've not seen the post on Towers Times. As I wrote that tweet, I'll justify it.

Focused - Yes. She's made unpopular decisions with the progression of PBB at the forefront of her mind. It may be for financial reasons and I do disagree with the manner in which she done so. She is focused, not necessarily in way that 99% of enthusiasts would like her to be, but yes, she is focused.

Approachable - I've read her tweets. She replies to nearly everyone. I personally feel that I can ask her anything and get a response.

Sexy - We'll she is. She owns one of the UK's most popular parks and she isn't a boiler. That's sexy imo.

She is rude (which could be understood as "direct, honest and not-what-i-want-to-hear") but that's her.

I stand by what I said. Mrs T is approachable, focused and sexy. I'm touched that somebody took offensive to one of my throwaway tweets (99% of them are!), but disappointed that they didn't question me directly.

Despite her appalling approach in the past, at the moment she is on a good course imo. *shrugs*

Haha, omg <3

That thread's amazing, but, they miss the AMAZINGNESS of her and think she's stupid <//3

She seems like a bit of a dictator, yet one who knows what they're doing and does have the best interests of the park in mind.

Judging from what I read and seen from the videos. I have to agree. She is does seem focused, approachable and sexy!! *sarcasm* That is the worst Sparta remix ever.

I genuinely love her. She's tarted the park up so much, it's "Looking" far better then it ever has at the moment in time. Plus, she has the personality of a goddess! She's hilarious, she's so driven, ambitious, LOVES drama, I mean, come on, what's not to love?

I'm still in two minds. I dont do Twitter of Facebook, so I dont really see that side of her.

Regardless of what the park was like, it still couldn't have been very nice for all the employee's of Pleasureland to find out they were being made redundant with immediate affect.

I agree, although she has been a bitch, she has fixed up the park and gave it a much needed face lift.

Another thing I think people are to harsh on her for is this, They seem her as it's solely her decision as to what happens to the business, when in fact, they have a board of advisers and decision makers working on her part. They simply put an idea together, put it to her and she gives it the go ahead or not, she doesn't only have the Pleasure Beach as a business, she has a very successful Theatre Production Company on the go too. She's just an all round good person in my point of view.

^I was JUST about to post this <//3

Everyone like, PERSONALLY blames her for shutting Southport in the fashion it was, and yet no-one seems to actually know WHAT the hell happened...

This is pretty complex, and to decide if you like somebody as a person based on their choices as the MD of a company is impossible.

Do I agree with every move Colin Bryan of DMP has made? No, I think he's been off the ball in some places. In other places so astute it's painful. As a person, he's a fantastically friendly and engaging guy. Does it make his staff less lazy or the rides better maintained? Nope! Does it excuse the sewer system that is Excalibur? Not at all. However, at least you can feel that the company is being run by somebody who does care and isn't stuffed up his own backside.

Who was that guy ran Alton? Took over Rita era and brought us Thirteen? None of us who met him at the Corkscrew closing day liked him personally. He did take Alton at it's worst though and picked it up and shook it a lot. I'm not saying he solved all the problems there, but he certainly took Alton from it's lowest point ever and brought changes that have brought it back. Doesn't excuse Charlie or the Dung Heap, but he still managed more positive than negative.

Personal opinion and what the personality of an MD is doesn't affect their ability to run a park... Well, it may do, but it's not as important as you'd think. There are teams of advisers and management reporting and bringing ideas to the table all the time. A good MD will also get involved on the ground and this is where I think Amanda is good. She's the right kind of picky task master the park needed to get it out of the doldrums. She's come in and seen the place is a hole, with poor staff attitudes and the place is generally unattractive (some may call it "charm", but it's not).

So she's walked the ground and seen the place as it really is and made moves to fix it. It may not have involved new coasters or multi-million pound investment for thrill seekers, but she's on park and spotting problems then shouting at somebody to get them sorted.

GT bucked the trend again and again by bold investments in rides. He failed with Valhalla (and possibly Southport too, but we'll never know the truth) which crippled the company rather than enhancing it as he did with Steeplechase, Avalanche and PMBO (plus others I'm sure).

In a time of poor world-wide economy, batten down the hatches is the key phrase, not "spend and they'll come". In this case, you need somebody like Amanda; ruthless and picky. Somebody to make crappy decisions and bear the brunt of bad mouthing with ease because there's more than a hint of arrogance there to deal with it.

Personally, I always think of Amanda as a spoilt, petulant child. She just comes across as one and always has. She's got no real respect for anyone, which comes down to the arrogant nature she has.

It doesn't make her a bad MD, or even a bad person if you know her (I'm sure). It's just that from a distance she's not "media friendly".

As far as Southport goes, what happened happened. These things do happen and the interest of the business always comes first. It wasn't what she did though, but the way it was done. There was no attempt to offer a life-line through a third party and she openly lied about the actions of PBB Ltd. If you are in a media situation as representative of a company and are asked a direct question you don't want to answer, you deflect or say "no comment". You don't just lie straight out. That's how you know she is arrogant and has no respect for people, you can't do that in that situation otherwise.

I think there was a lot going on behind the scenes at Southport we'll never know about. We know PBB Ltd. not only got to rip out everything off the site, but also made £7.5 million from it. Money Sefton council have never seen a penny of back in terms of future development of the site. Somebody was shafted good and proper there (the locals) while several people eithe rmade themselves rich, or just missed making themselves rich out of the deal (PBB Ltd. came out of it very well though).

Again, you can't blame Amanda for these actions. She made the company money out of Southport, a very large amount of ready cash, plus a new ride for Blackpool. She killed off a potential competitor to her park dead too. It's all stuff you can forgive for "the greater good" to a degree; but lying about it all as a company director is just wrong.

You could call it teething trouble or being a bit green and new to the job, but I think that's simply the fact that she hadn't learnt to curb her personality fully at that point. It still comes out now too and you see it, especially on Twitter.

She's not a bad MD (as average as them all I think in total), she's "fab" in terms of great entertainment but I don't think she's a particularly nice person to be on the wrong side of (which everyone is unless you are on her right side by invite :)

I recently re-watched that old Pleasure Beach documentary on Youtube (saw it when it was on TV years ago, but before my enthusiast days, so was curious to see it from a new perspective), and came to the conclusion that she is, indeed, FAB.

Was that programme called 'Theme Park'? I was looking for that on YouTube as I remember it! Where can it be watched?
