What's new

Alton Towers/Ropers noise complaint rolls on

I cannot stand these two, all they do whine because they are a pair of stuck up old fools.
I hope that one day they bankrupt themselves after all these court cases.

I just don't see how they think they can win?

TBH though i think alot of it seems to come from her and she's dragged the poor bastard along! i bet whilst she's off fighting the high court he's secretly getting himself some front row action on Nemesis ;)

For how much theyve pumped into that pathetic campaign to bring down a world class theme park they could probabally have bought the place, shut it down, and then moved to a house under the atlantic ocean where they can be as quiet as they like in the quiet and live a quiet life and die quietly in their quiet home. god, i have friends who live 100 meters from the hulk!! and theres a school there and a whole complete subdivision! dr philips, look it up, puts these sad acts to shame!

There's such a simple solution to this problem. Maybe we should all chip in together to get the Ropers a pair of these for Christmas.

Problem solved. And a lot cheaper than what they're doing.

100 ft away, or on the other side of some trees (effectively, regardless, you CAN see Oblivion's brakes through the trees on the other said of the house in question, so what, 50ft if THAT?)?

Wonder who wins now eh?

P.S. It's 200ft, just looked it up myself on Google Maps, and there's a road in the way, for which I direct you to furie's earlier post regarding the MASSIVE difference between inner-city like areas of Tampa and Orlando against the country roads of Alton...

very true, very true. Now nemesis inferno, sheikra is within spitting distance of a high concentration residential area, oblivion is within spitting distance of a b&b and well... thats it.

In act, looking at the geography of the place, it should be very difficult to hear rides from any point outside the park, its so far from most houses and the trees that all rides are under musst muffle anything that gets through to a quiet whisper in the wind

^Have you actually been to Alton? Or have any concept of how sound works?

You can hear Nemesis CLEARLY from either Towers Street, or even the Towers themselves... Indeed, when nothing is running or on, you can actually hear the Cloud Cuckoo Land music in Forbidden Valley...

So imagine what it's like in an extremely quiet village like Alton or Farley when it's quite clear from on the park that the sound does indeed travel through the trees (because they don't just magically block sound waves funnily enough), and that's when it's busy and open, so what happens to the places nearby where most noise comes from the local farm?

You know, for someone claiming to be "blivvies biggest fan", you must have always been too scared of your fave coaster and permanently shut your eyes to have been able to miss the house that's practically a semi-detached with Oblivion's station.

Just sayin'

Ok, first off i said outside the park, and secondly i do not look out for houses when riding rides because that isnt the point, ok? what my point is is that near sheikra and the hulk which were my examples, there are far fewer complaints from residents, and you know why? because they realise that they are right next to a great place, which they enjoy, instead of trying to get closed down which these idiots are trying to do

This is ridiculous, if they don't like the noise from the park, it would be cheaper for them to just move house, further away, than continue with the court case... They're not going to beat a company like Merlin, because they are far more powerful than the couple will ever be. As I can see, they need to get a grip, and move away, and stop being so pathetic.

I'd like to follow them around all day and night with noisemakers and firecrackers.

They look like they'd be very annoying people to be around.

I looked this word up in the dictionary because I didn't know what it meant. Can anybody explain? URGH.

I always assumed the little house near Oblivion was like.....a caretaker's house or something, I didn't realise anybody ACTUALLY lived there! The things people will put up with I guess.

You do have to admire the Ropers for their persistence against 'the man' though, it is quite remarkable, even if they are a pair of moany old bags.

By the way, Altongoons are waaaayyyyyyy worse than Thorpegoons. Just saying.

As if, I've only jsut realised she looks like Mary Shaw from Dead Silence:

Oh yeah, all I have to say on this topic is, at the end of the day, this is always going to go on. It's clear they've both got personal vendetta's against the park, that's clear, what's also clear is that they're both obviously strong minded, or they would have moved. They won't exactly win anything from this, apart from probably a pay-off from Merlin, in which that's all they may actually be wanting. So, let them go to court, they're not exactly going to get one of Britain's Most Popular Tourist Attractions shut down, it's that simple.

Oh yeah, also, on talks of not being able to hear the rides outside the park, yes, yes you can. Pretty clearly actually, especially if you're driving from Alton village toward the park, that lane you drive down, close towards where the Ropers live, you can hear Oblivion VERY clearly, actually somewhat loudly too. So, yeah, shush?

Besides Nemesis/Oblivion/Air, can any other rides be heard outside the park?

Maybe they could sand-fill some of the louder pieces of track...

Never mind, F those A-holes. The park is awesome. The neighbors suck.
