    Craving an Average Park

It’s the “great reset”. After a year of limited (if any) theme parking, there’s finally the promise that parks will operate at some capacity. Understandably people are cautious about making exotic plans, so perhaps our expectations have lowered? My plans this year are simple. I very much doubt...

    Thorpe Park mega goon competition

The hunt for the nation’s biggest theme park fan is on! AsTHORPE PARK Resort gets ready to welcome guests back, planning to reopen from 12th April in line with the latest Government guidance, The Island Like No Other has announced a once-in-a-ride-time experience for one lucky theme park...

Should safety boards be themed? Poll

I’ve done the survey, but from a topic perspective, I’d say the boards should fit within the theme but ultimately they need to clearly display the small print...and in simple, almost diagram based imagery, so there is no confusion.

    Obscure special effects

I wonder how nearly every ride at Rainbow Magicland is doing.

Do you have any theme park guilty pleasures?

El Locos. Not that I would want to ride one time and time again, but I find them fun. Don’t get the hate they attract.

    Accident on Splash Canyon

Haven’t read the report, but is the argument that the park didn’t do enough to prevent the girl from standing up/but follow rules?

How does being tired/inebriated affect your judgement of pacing?

No idea on the science of it all, but the mind could possibly be more forgiving when it’s in chill mode. Being less alert is like switching off the criticism. A bit like playing a computer game. Do it sober and you lose, and it’s “****ing bollocks **** bloody game!” plus a smashed controller...

Paultons Park | Tornado Springs | New Area | 2021

I’ll be there on opening day. My first theme park trip since November 2019!! I’ll be, errr, a goon at a theme park.

    Gröna Lund | Monster | B&M Invert | 2021

The brakes were tested today. Was sent a video (which I can’t post) but can post a few screenshots. Nuts to have block brakes on a declining section of track into the station.

    Gröna Lund | Monster | B&M Invert | 2021

Monster, is without a doubt, the cred I'm most excited about. This is going to sound flippant, but meh. It's "easy" enough to build most coasters - plonk it in and build around it. To build something like Monster within all the constraints the park faces, takes imagination and engineering skills...

Peppa Pig theme park at Legoland Florida | USA |2022

Is Peppa Pig big in America? Then again, Ididn’t realise how popular it was until Paultons opened their area. Will be interesting to see if a separate gate ticket model works. I’m looking forward to seeing this develop. Press release...

Icon at Blackpool Pleasure Beach; overrated or underappreciated?

I think it’s perfect for Blackpool. Imagine the ride in a field with nothing else around - it’s ok. Imagine the ride at a park worshiped by fanboys - it would be the best thing ever. Now think about it’s actual setting. It’s modern day ride type sat in amongst a collection of traditional...

The trick is to post quietly, then. Have another go ;)

LWV confirm removal of several rides

Happy to see the end of Eagles Claw, but gutted about Raptor Attack. There was something special about the ride, as the Rat and then as RA. Interesting discussion which way the park will go. A refocus on the target market may be a good idea, but it’s always going to be in competition with...

“A Day” sounds like a rubbish name for a ride ;)

    Drayton Manor on Fire

All depends on the extent of the damage, but if they can’t open Thomasland, then it’s a bit worrying. Surely the vast majority of visitors go for Thomas, and with fewer thrill rides compared to its heyday, how will they make up that shortfall? Hopefully those photos make it look worse than it...

    Gröna Lund | Monster | B&M Invert | 2021

The photos I like the most are the ones where the lift hill goes through the roof. The imagination and determination at Grona Lund is unlike anywhere else. Sure, other parks might have “better” coasters, but stop for a minute and consider the engineering at Grona Lund. Everything has to be done...
