Zooom at Flamingo Land opens!

Mushroom

Goon of the Year
Hey all! Just spent the morning at Flamingo Land, was hoping to get some construction pictures, but have done 1 better, Zooom officially opened today!

Zooom is a custom made Zamperla Air Force coaster, which gently rocks around the sky around twisty bends. It is all themed to an airport, which is a thumbs up from me! The ride is mainly aimed at families, and it is just right for what Flamingo Land needs. The coaster had opened yesterday on 1st July, but for only 90mins, with its full opening today.

The ride itself is very smooth, some nice swinging motions, ideal for families really. I also got to speak to Nick of Flamingo Land about the ride (he is the one with the goatee beard in the photos), he said it wasn't going to be a major investment this year, just something for people to enjoy. He also mentioned that they are planning to get rid of a couple of Vekoma rides, didn't say which ones over the next few years as they are getting too far past their use by date. They are currently thinking of what to put in next year to bring in more visitors, but they don't have a 5 year plan as such, but I have been told, that there will be NO wooden coaster in the foreseeable future

There is still a few bits to be added to Zooom in the next couple of months like windsocks and flags to make it feel more like an airport. so here are a load of photos!

Wow! It looks a lot bigger than I imagined it would be and the themeing (although not complete) still looks brilliant. the little things make it awesome, such as the departure signs :') Lovely one Flamingoland!

There seemed to be a hint at Corkscrew possibly going from 'mingoland, which although I can see why as it's very dated and doesn't appeal as much any more these days, it'd be sad to see it go especially as Alton's Corkscrew only went a few years ago :'(

The other Vekoma ride is Sky Flyer. It's up for sale.

While the departure signs are a nice touch, the fact that it's a bit of laminated paper makes it look a little cheap. Hope they're just temporary solutions.

Looks cool, the layout looks pants if I'm honest, but it's for kids so I'll let them off

The theme looks brilliant, I love the idea of the runway as the loading platform!

Do you know what the height restriction is? (accompanied too?)

^ The sign says 1.05mtrs "unless accompanied by an adult".

ha, check me out not paying attention...

So accompanied there is no restriction then?

... "Luke, cred!"

The layout looks uber bland imo and the area in general looks a bit meh but I take it it was a very cheap attraction and it gives them something new to rave about and something that kids should enjoy oh and a +1 on our list of creds :p

Cheap, tacky, well themed and hits the spot brilliantly. I do have quite a soft spot for FL.

Good report Mushroom and pictures :)

They could get a nice sized coaster with the Corkscrew is, I assume that will be the coaster that goes.

It's bigger than I thought too. I expected this layout:

It does look ugly how it's all raised, but I suppose they're trying to make it feel more like 'flying' or something? It works on Tatsu, but not so much on this, darlings.

Looks like a neat addition for Flamingo Land.

Just a question, though: what height restrictions does the park have to work with? And how do they do financially?

We've seen family coasters being built there for the past few years, and it looks like they've got a solid base lineup now. Perhaps something bigger is to come? I think Corkscrew still has a couple of years left in it, and that it fills the "big coaster with inversions" niche much like Kumali, but what will there be to replace it? I'm expecting something neat from this park in 2013-14. Not necessarily world-class big, but big for Europe, and a big coaster without going beyond the "family park" image. Something along the lines of the Intamin Mega-Lites.

No chance, Kumali and Velocity were huge, one of a kind investments that they only did becuase they got a good deal on them.

A woody was rumoured, and may still be in the pipeline, but the recent additions pretty much signal the direction the park is going in. Cheap, cheerful, colourful rides.

It's not really the initial outlay that is the stumbling block for something like an Intamin, moreso the recurring maintenance costs.

If they can prop up the gate figures a little more then perhaps it won't be totally out of the realms of possibility in future.

I like it, it's really cute and fun but also provides a thrill for those too big for the smaller coasters but not quite ready for the likes of Kumali and Velocity. Really cool.

I think it would look better and feel better for the flying part if they sent the cars out individually, not in a big train. It'll keep the queue moving better as well.

Otherwise, This went up much quicker than expected and it looks a brilliant family ride.

^ 5 cars X 4 people = 20 people per dispatch

1 car X 4 people = 4 people per dispatch

Getting the idea?
