What's new

X goes forward

^Could they not just have been sent away for a refurb/repaint?

I haven't seen them obviously, but that would seem more likely than buying completely new trains, especially since they really don't seem to be making a big deal about it so far. Even small ones like that would cost a fair whack.

Peep pointed out that on Thorpe's website, X's height restriction has been lowered from 1.4m to only 1m.

So even if they aren't new trains, they must be heavily refurbished with new restraints.

Looks like the exterior has been given a much needed refurbishment, although the signs still use its former name.

I'm really excited for this actually, since I've always neglected X on visits, having only ridden it twice (once with the lights on); for me, this is close to adding a new coaster.

Perhaps now it'll be better than flying fish.

Strange to me that they've lowered the height restriction, perhaps this is a reaction to criticism the park has received for not having a lot for smaller kiddies to ride? If so, even more interesting since Thorpe have worked so hard to build such a specific demographic.

But werent there complaints as well since it wasnt really thrilling and they were just trying to up a family attraction as thrilling?

Think it was furie that brought it up...or someone with kids

^Not complaints as such, just us enthusiasts moaning that it shouldn't be a 1.4m ride as it's a family coaster. They seemed to want to sell it as something else though, and inexplicably whacked a higher height restriction on it.

My guess is that now that a number of bigger thrill rides have opened since, they don't need to try and fool people into thinking it's a big-ass, thrill machine. They do, however, need a few things that don't look as intimidating as Swarm, Stealth, Saw etc.

I'm no expert, obviously, but is it possible that going backwards made it unsuitable for smaller children? Could there be a genuine (although possibly misguided) H&S concern about the ride that didn't involve the restraints/trains? I don't know if the different forces (or the rough blocks) made them worried about the impact it'd have on smaller kids? I don't have a clue, it was just an idea.

That;s just how I justify the fact that it's a completely **** ride to people who don't want to believe me that it's a completely **** ride. If you work out some kind of reasonable answer then people will accept it - but the truth is, it's the biggest turd coaster on the planet ;)

It'll still be turd, but at least it will be unremarkable and turd for everyone to realise from the age of 4. I can imagine the kids coming off it crying now, in absolute tears "why did you make me go on such a complete load of rubbish Mummy? I hate you for forcing such pathetic crap on me!!! "

And I'll bet they only repainted half the track so Joey will be furious every time he goes on it :p

Yeah I hate this ride, to be honest I'm surprised they have bothered trying to polish this turd, I was expecting it to get canned soon actually, but evidently not.

The fact that it was blackwards, was quite a cool idea, but for me it was always the stop start MCBR crap that made it a turdy ride, say if it only had 2 or 3 trains running and it didn't need to stop, would it have been a better experience?

Regardless, they have turned it forwards so it's irrelevant now and as many have stated, the ride has now lost it's one quirky asset it had going for it.

Regardless of what the keep doing to this turd before they eventually do can it, Raptor Attack's award as Nick's favorite UK indoor coaster is more than safe ;)

^ I spend ages staring at that post thinking a picture was about to load. But it never did.

I suppose in a way, X:\NWO did go "blackwards". It went backwards in the dark. Damn, why didn't I think of that before.

I reckon that after it's no longer blackwards (I'm going to keep using that now), it'll be the second-to-last most re-ridable coaster in the park after Saw.

It was 1.4 because it had a single lapbar. Sit someone small with someone large, and the smaller person has a hell of a lot of room and freedom to stand or fall out of the train. Same deal with Rattlesnake.

If you're going to get new trains, it makes sense to remove this issue.

^Then why do the other coasters of the same type and with the same trains and restraints not have the same 1.4m restriction?

I didn't put my photos up because they were utter turdio, but if you insist...

They were shiny black with red writing on. Look the same shape as the old ones so I'm guessing refurb.
