Wood worms have the features on the fastest wooden roller coaster in Europe. At least, that claims to be a regional newspaper. According to the Kreiszeitung is the survival of the ' woodie ' Colossos Heide Park possible in the German seriously threatened by the presence of the voracious insects.

"There are persistent rumours in the corridors about the demolition of the roller coaster", writes the newspaper about the 14-year-old roller coaster. "Because of Woodworm would Colossos demolished after this season." Evidence the journalists have not yet found.

Though they talked with Ulf Cordes, the Director of the wood supplier for the attraction. "Normal wooden roller coasters hit after fifteen years in decline, but we have sustainable wood that a life span of about fifty years", he claims. "If the material is treated well, there is nothing to worry about."

Colossos was manufactured by the Swiss attraction Builder Intamin. The coaster reaches a top speed of 110 kilometers per hour

Great to hear that wood worms will be having a feature on Colossus in their regional newspaper (or have they already had it?).

Wouldn't hurt to cite your source next time, though.

Given Merlin's, less than stellar maintenance at UK parks, I wouldn't actually be surprised by this if it was true...

Which is probably isnt... But would be funny...

Re: Woodworm could see Colossos be demolished after this sea

Thank god I managed to ride it earlier this month, if it's true that is.

It's a fab coaster but just very rough on the bottom of the hills and the helix!

Re: Woodworm could see Colossos be demolished after this sea

Could this be like a very bad pr stunt to up attendance or get the publics attention on them?

Cause, this kind of reminds me of the 'No arms up due to B.O.' and shiz.

Bullocks....

Ulf Cordes - owner of Cordes Holzbau, who did all the woodworks on Intamin wooden coasters says that the wooden construction is made to last at least 50 years. So this will put the coaster time for removal around 2051 - IF no parts are replaced!

Re: Woodworm could see Colossos be demolished after this sea

The article itself says proper wood treatment allows for a 50 year life span. Pretty sure we just solved the issue right there.

Re: Woodworm could see Colossos be demolished after this sea

I call BS on this.

However the ride could use some new wood in the first valleys!

Re: Woodworm could see Colossos be demolished after this sea

If only there were a way to replace wooden supports with steel support. Or even better! Replace wooden track with steel track!

That'll be the day.
